I can speak for those who keep quiet for a long time. When we decide to speak up and decide to make our own decisions we are unstoppable.
My parents never listened. Their word was that and when I grew up I decided to create as much distance as I can between us and since we have never been friends it makes things easier. It's not a good thing but my sanity comes first.

Thank you Maama Ruth and bringing your daughter Nisha, this is the best episodes of yours i have watched. Our parents raised us like soilders, there was no talking, it even made me run away from home for some 3 days. But when i was there as my mother was looking for me, i made it clear to her that we are children but we also have a say in our lives. Trust me things changed, i don't even blame my mother because we lost Dad at 8 years. So single strangling Nalongo was tough, but am blessed because am what I am because of Maama. Thanks again Maama Ruth for the energy and educative talks and impacting to the new Uganda. Bless you and your entire Family.

Wooow this was an interesting conversation. Parents need to listen to their children. Children’s opinions matter in all aspects. Let us move away from the autocratic kind of parenting. Allow children to express their opinions and feelings. Always check in with them to see how they are feeling. In this very fast era of technology there is a lot of stress, anxiety and depression among other mental issues. Talk to your children. Tell them you love them, speak to them positive reaffirmations. As for University courses, I believe parents should provide guidance and moral support but not choose courses for their children. Some parents just want prestige because they have a doctor, lawyer, engineer etc but care less about that child’s happiness.

i am a student also but my mother is soooooo tuff, I would like to add to the conversation, and I suggest parents should be more of our friends especially when we are at campus because it is when we need them more. because like it or not we face many challenges where we need to speak to them but insisted of speaking to them we end up speaking to the wrong people who advise us wrongly and end up messing up because we fear our parents due to the fact that they are tuff to us and and had to relate with them due to the seriousness. however, i thank God that i mate God while i am at campus and He is the one i run to.

Wooow Ruth thanks for this talk .l also had my cousin sister the parents wanted BCM.but after one term she told me you know what l can't make it so l had to sit her down give her advice to pass through our other aunt to convince them. Then after they accepted her to change.
