    It was really great to see the two of them unabashedly singing the National Anthem rather than just mouth the words.

    So happy for Meryl & Charlie. I'm not American but they have been my favourite ice dancers since I first saw them in 2008. So deserving of this gold medal. I have to say the ice dancing competition was spectacular!

  • @53lyric1

    They made history that day. They are the first Gold Medal Ice Dancers America has ever had! And they broke the record Ice Dancing score with 116.93 in the Free Dance, and a total of 195.52. They were flawless!

    Meryl seemed surprised to hear Charlie sing the high notes of the Anthem. He did us proud - both of them. There was no "full of themselves" attitude - just pride in their country. They danced magnificently. They have their own kind of magic when they look at each other. It's not (unfortunately) romantic - but there is definitely love between them.

    How proud I am of our American Gold Medal Winners. Not only did they honor the flag by placing their hands to their hearts, but they even knew all the words of the National Anthem AND SANG IT. They both gave it all they had, validating their extreme work ethic. Would that all of our athletes behave in a dignified and respectful manner!! They deserved all the kudos they received - not only were they the best, but they didn't lord it over anyone else. That is humility and integrity and that is in short supply nowadays. Congratulations!!!

    Doesn't it speak volumes about the character of these two young people that they actually stood and SANG our national anthem. They are such spectacular representatives of the United States. Great job, Meryl and Charlie, we're proud of you!

      They were made to skate as a couple but not to be a romantic couple. When they were put together it was for this long term goal of Olympic Gold. I am sure it was explained to them that if feelings ever came up they needed to be addressed and stifled. Love can ruin a business partnership.

      ***** Why do you think that those booing were from Russians. This prejudice against Russians exists only in your mind... To tell the truth nobody expected that Russian duet would win Gold or Silver in this Competition . It was evident to everybody that only Pupils of Marina Zueva would compete for gold... And in Russia actually both those duets have lots of admirers and fans & are appreciated greatly...

    • @Kindzadzaa
      @Kindzadzaa 10 лет назад +2

      PS I've especially listened this fragment and must say that this is utterly untypical for Russians to do so , especially in this situation . Firstly- If they wanted to express their negative reaction it would sound phonetically different... & Secondly there is no simply such traditions to do so. Because it's unfair to sportsmen & their great Labour & hardworking. And negativeness ( if their would be any) would be expressed just like coldness... weak applause or sth...

    how sweet of Charlie to squeeze and hug meryl after the awarding of their medals. just wondered why they did not become an item. is it because they treat each other with so much respect and do not want their friendship to tarnish if they become romantically link. well we will never know may be when they no longer dancing and retired then we will see if they really meant to be together.

    • @shelleyc853
      @shelleyc853 10 лет назад +6

      From what I've heard their relationship has been similar to that of siblings from the start(they've been skating together 17 years) and Charlie has a girlfriend (Meryl hasn't said anything) :)

    • @lanalang2001
      @lanalang2001 10 лет назад +1

      Shelley C Charlie has a girlfriend and her name is Tanith Belbin and they've been together since 2010 and I know that because I've been a fan of Charlie and Meryl since they won the 2010 Olympic. Charlie said that their relationship is unique and them only know what that relationship is. And if I want to put label on their unique relationship is my personal opinion and I do not see any problem with that.

    • @shelleyc853
      @shelleyc853 10 лет назад +3

      lanalang2001 Yeah Tanith Belbin was another USA ice dancer right? And I agree their relationship is completely special and unique :)

      Shelley C Tanith won an ice dance silver in Torino.

    • @lehcaraz1
      @lehcaraz1 3 года назад +1

      Tanith and Charlie are married now. They married shortly after the 2014 Olympics. They spent years keeping their relationship on the quiet because spectators and judges needed to see Charlie and Meryl on the ice as a couple, especially during the romantic sections. It elevated their performances.

    • @slou61
      @slou61 8 лет назад +2

      The Sochi games were different in that, for some reason, the medal ceremony wasn't right after the event and wasn't televised. I think it may have actually even been a day after each event. I could be wrong but it seems that I remember seeing an interview with Charlie and Meryl and them saying that the ceremony was the next day. If you notice, none of the skaters are wearing the costumes that they wore the night of the competition.

      Sports actually create a lot of jobs in the USA. A lot. And not just the top level pro sports, but minor league venues, college sports complexes etc. And the people who work those jobs take that money home to their families. So in that way, we DO "help our own". No, the waste is in giving money to people who figure out how to do nothing but collect from the state and never lift a finger to do for themselves. No one starves here unless they are under the control of a criminal parent.
      Oh, and you should mind your own business and tend to your own utopia, wherever that is...

    • @pantherablaxxx9930
      @pantherablaxxx9930 9 лет назад +17

      What are you two talking about? First of all Moir turned to Virtue for barely 10 seconds, not throughout the national anthem! Second have you ever seen V/M whining for whatever the reason? I don't think they would whine if it were the opposite. They even took off their hats during the us anthem. Classless, uh? Geez...

    • @starsmoon0216
      @starsmoon0216 9 лет назад +6

      Are you kidding me? How can you justify that at all? That wasn't a high school assembly....... That was the the Olympics!!!! The entire world is watching. If behavior is less than favorable, except to be called out on it no matter who you are. I can't believe you condone it.

    • @pantherablaxxx9930
      @pantherablaxxx9930 9 лет назад +4

      starsmoon0216 Who said anything about "condoning it"? First of all you and the other person were the ones who said they talked THROUGHOUT the U.S. national anthem which is totally false. Second, Moir just turned and talked to Virtue for nearly 10 seconds. Watch again and you tell me they talked THROUGHOUT the anthem, then I'll be quiet. Yes, V/M did talk a little, but it wasn't mentionned on the news, nor on newspapers. So why making such a big deal out of this?
      By the way, since the video is about D/W receiving their olympic gold medal and not about V/M talking, I congratulate them for being such a great ice dance team.

    • @starsmoon0216
      @starsmoon0216 9 лет назад +4

      Stephanie St-Elien I think you need to re-read my post. I never used the word THOUGHOUT. I said they were "chatting during the national anthem" and they were. I'm sure whatever they said could have waited for one minute. But this is neither here nor there. Its not something to debate endlessly. I just thought it was rude, but it wasn't the end of the world. I'm not making a big deal about it. However, I think you are now by engaging this topic further. It was a great moment for Meryl and Charlie. That was the important thing.

    • @pantherablaxxx9930
