Why do AWD cars suffer from such bad wheel hop on the launch? Anybody want to explain to me whether it's an IRS thing or an AWD thing?
Suspension, alignment, tires, ecu, slipping the clutch, etc Lots involved going on. Most high horsepower Evo guys like to slip the clutch on launch do to the transfer cases being weak and known to blow even when built. So if you dont give it enough gas it will start to stall out and will buck like you see, the wheel hop is the suspension/alignment and ECU fighting itself, since the ECU is sending power from the front diff to the rear diff back and forth, and each wheel is also getting sent separate amounts of torque causing the wheel hop. Launching a high horsepower AWD car takes a lot of skill hence why you see high horsepower RWD car actually start to pull better 60 foot times. I can go more in depth, but im lazy and ill wait for someone else to do it lol.
I think it's down to the change in grip levels
As it hooks up the toe changes and the available grip is slightly reduced for that split second
It spins the tires, the toe then reverts back to the initial position and as it finds grip it will hop because the tires are already spinning
It does this a few times until the car can no longer overpowers the wheels as there's usable grip everywhere (basically once it gets going)
Not sure on this, but that's my understanding based on what i've read in the past

The wheel hop the car was experiencing in the passes you saw here were due to coming off the clutch too fast. The car uses a valve to control how fast the clutch engages. This is why if you look at the last pass it didn't bounce around. We set the valve up to slip the clutch more on that pass.
Needs to be rwd then them 60's would drop!
The last launch was what they were looking for and by far the best pass...obviously!
I live in the same town as English Racing, so its always exciting to see those guys on this channel. They do really amazing work.

Engine codes.. The 4g63 engine is well proven and has come in the Evo, Eclipse, and Gallant vr4 (and Eagle Talon). The 4B11 has replaced it and has received some mixed reviews, which is why I wanted to be sure here..
Want to see 4b11 go into 6-7 sec like them 4g63.

antho R roll-racing. Launches in an awd would destroy the diffs and transmission. Basically for the high end power guys that can't afford or choose not to spend major $$$ on transmission/gearbox.

I myself was in disbelief. The thing looked like it rolled about a foot.....and yet was not bestowed a red light.

Apologies stupid question. Why do AWD cars seem to have such issues on the 60 ft? is that bouncing normal? The car is crazy fast, it just doesnt seem to leave the line really well
Are the gears in the diff changed? It runs 1/2 miles and 1/4 miles on the same final drive ratio? Times could be improved by switching ratios between runs
For this power maybe but the most crazy faster in the road is build by extreme tuners in Greece.

The launches were interesting (the roll at the beginning). If it was a street race, that roll would count as the launch. But at the drag strip all that matters is that you don't break the beam (not if the car is moving) and red light.
And he's just concerned with E.T. so his R/T is irreverent. And BTW - very fast little EVO.

thekids4488 that sti you're talking about is the evo 8/9's rival, which had a different engine (4g63) and for that case the fastest stock body evo 8/9 is 8.0 in 1/4 miles. i haven't heard of a third gen (or newer sti which is the rival of the evo x) that runs 8's

I’ve owned my evo x for about 2 weeks now... finally made the sst tranny cry uncle kinda disappointed tranny started over heating only after about 3-5 semi hard pulls I mean there was traffic and nothing crazy about my pills just having a bit of fun... I dunno it’s a great car no clutch is a biggie for me. I drive a 13 speed kenworth allllll day so getting a break in my daily is awesome.
Fact: The evo10 is the only one with the diffrent engine than those of his former versions.

Very Nice Evo, but 8.50s are really the world record? Could swear I've seen 8.0 and 7.9 sec Evos but maybe I'm confusing DSMs in general. I'm a Honda enthusiast/racer and I know we have Sport FWD trim Honda's in the 8.0-7.9x range so I just imagined the AWD Evo crowd would do slightly better being as they can make the same amounts of power but typically 60' better than a front driver of equal power.

Strictly gaming news it actually doesn't cost much at all to make good reliable power. Evo Xs come from the factory essentially detuned. If u were to buy an Evo X then buy an air intake and a boost controller that's like 100 bucks that alone will add 50 hp. That's what is so great about them. It's easy for them to make power and relatively cost friendly. Well depending on how much power you are going for. You must be thinking of Subarus which cost twice as much to make the same amount of hp.
I put a cold air intake, catback exhaust and tuned in my 2014 gsr and got it to 350 hp.
