Hi Sam, I recommend Bachmann's Dumbleton Hall. I find it to be a very nice model. I also have Bachmann's Rood Ashton Hall from The Shakespeare Express set which is also a lovely model. Maybe you were unlucky with your Hall class? The Hornby B12 that you raved about was in my experience a dog's dinner. Don't get me wrong, it looks awesome but the first one I had was very erratic so sent it back to get a replacement. The replacement was reluctant to run and went up in smoke - I'm not kidding.
Thanks a lot for sharing - they do look lovely! I didn't get unlucky though - they all have mechanisms like that. I've tried 3 of them now, all the same! Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Good job on the video Sam, I was just looking on rails of Sheffield and they have a bargain/sale currently going on with the Heljan Class O5 Shunters in O gauge, the price for the sale is £175.00, normal mrsp is £395.00. Keep up the good work sam, also sam that Murphy Models class 121 is really something I want to see reviewed by you. I sound like a broken record for saying it lol 😂, but your making me do it sam, I’m itching for you to review it , lol 😂
Thanks so much Toby, ahh very interesting - I'll look into that, thank you! Great to hear the Murphy loco is decent - I'll look into that! :D Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Both the Bachmann entries and that Heljan reek of "Gouge the prices to make up for sales shortfalls". The Heljan is also an obvious victim of mold wear. Although about that Heljan: 1. Does hanging the end link of the screw link up on the hook help with the coupling? 2. The fact that both it and the coaches have slimline tension-locks probably wasn't helping things. Slimline tension-lock couplers aren't good at coupling on curves (they might actually be worse than horn-hook couplers in that regard). And the loco's couplings being slimline are part of why the dangling chain was a problem, since it meant the tension-lock hook was only barely offset from the detail coupling. ...Honestly, I don't get why slimline tension-lock couplers persist. They seem to work poorly as couplers compared to wider tension-lock couplers, and IMO everyone who claims they're substantially less obtrusive is kidding themselves. They're not less obtrusive enough to be worth the drop in functionality. I don't think it's fair to ask Bachmann to retire that Hall tooling. It looks well enough, especially under the 3-foot rule, and not every motor needs a flywheel (Although based on your comments it's not getting the same performance out of that motor that Bachmann's Gordon and Henry do). It would be better if they treated it like Hornby's Railroad range, though. Here's another reason to be irritated at the gouged price: Anymore, the British-market releases of it are largely a sideline to milk extra $ out of it; I'm pretty sure it's _mainly_ being kept around for something in the _American_ market (though anymore, I wish that thing would go away).

haha glad to hear yours was better - mine was not Piko branded though, I'd expect ones made by them to be much better quality! Merry Christmas - Sam :)
If you are above 40 yo, like me, the Piko brand was from the GDR before 1989. The treuhand had found someone who wants it around 1992 and that is why you have this brand still alive today. They are positionned at the entry-level side of the market, and they do some good wagons for less than 20 € / GBP 18. I've recently bought two of them for my italians locomotives. The blob we saw in the video is sold by Piko, but I suspect that it might have been a Mehano model whose molds had been bought by thje chinese manufacturer (or be ordered in its time by Mehano to this manufacturer), and the chinese factory sold this as a no-name model to manufacturers who wants to put a cheap engine in their range without investments. I suspect this manufacturer to be the same that sold no-name wagons on the net via Ali Express, like the ones Sam had tested before.

haha thanks so much mate - I could never be anything but candid in my reviews... viewers know full well what they're seeing, you just loose credibility if you hide the truth! xD I feel you on the Beattie, a travesty too! Merry Christmas - Sam :)
This seems a little more appropriate for Halloween but at the same time it’s appropriate as an end of the year video as the new year is just around the corner.
I picked up your number 1 loco in a train set called the Alpine express for £12 for the loco, track, controller and three wagons. Cruddy loco, but it’s handy for testing track dead spots lol
Excellent video of the worst model trains of 2020 with excellent funny moments 👍👍😆😆 I’ve laugh 😆 a lot when you about to through the beginning models down the stairs and that was so funny. I would though that you have that London Underground train with a terrified looking face to put in the worst video as you got nightmares of that terrified underground train.
Great video! I am more of a model builder than a model railroader but the future is the same. Mom buys an attractive loco off the Internet as a gift. ('"Tis the season. . . ") The next visit to the layout she looks for her gift and can't find it. The recipient says it broke / it fell apart / it stopped working / it burned out (lovely smell, that). Guess what? Mom's next gift is a video game. It's a shame the manufacturers can't take a longer view of their business. Cheers!
Hiya Sam - Loving your 'Sound Effects' when you pull that string (did wonder @ 1st what that string was for - but now we know!!!) lol @ 14:30 - Are you having a Giraffe (a laugh - (London Cockney Rhyming Slang & no I'm not from London b4 any 1 asks!!!)) with the Sellotape dispenser???
In HO Scale, Bachmann's quality for beginners sets and stuff like that is actually surprisingly decent, and somewhat well detailed. The performance is a little iffy, but most of their models look realistic enough to satisfy most people. Maybe they should just stick to HO?
9:18 Wheels like this are pretty common here in America. It personally doesn't bother me that much, but it's always possible to paint over it. Doesn't excuse Heljan's lack of QC on their products though.
Thanks for the info Adrian, I've heard that it's a PIKO model, although my version wasn't a PIKO branded product, so presumably the actual PIKO version would be better quality! Happy New Year - Sam :)
I bought number one with its set for 40 Euros in an Amazon Outlet of returned products and I can tell you that the locomotive did not come dirty and badly painted like yours. It was only connecting the plug to the electrical network, and the locomotive shot out on the track. Greetings from Spain. Great channel.
Something i'd love to see is top 5 poorly aged locomotives. Some criteria that could play into it is how fast it aged, how fast it was replaced and the models released at the time. Something I'd also like to see is worst locomotives of the 1900s, like worst of 2019 and 2020, but with models from the triang days to 1999
The rear tender from that cheap Piko loc looks like the rear tender of the DB BR 55 or similar model. I a shape that Piko gives you this kind of loco for ''children''. Piko knows better! I've bought not so long ago a Piko Expert Br 186 Captrain and it rides lovely and looks really nice for the budget range of locomotive's in Europe
I will always use a Club hammer whilst wearing a pair of goggles, The fall down the steps was all too gentle. I never keep crap, that is fit for scrap.
The tank engine variant of the 3rd model was my first ever model train and I have to say even though I now find it rather bad it will always have a special part in my heart
I really think your hammering of the bachmann Hall is very unfair, I've got two and they've never put a foot wrong performance wise, the price is high as are all new models, but second hand prices really aren't bad and the decoration is better than the Hornby one which looks very plasticky, and has an off-green finish
Thanks for sharing! As you can see, I justified my opinion with countless (not just a few) valid points! Totally fine if you like yours - I'd never try to change your mind! Just know that you won't be able to change mine ;) Merry Christmas - Sam :)
ha ha ha ha !!!!! tape real falls down ... great comedy Sam... btw i really did thing "Train time" was about to start lol Merry Christmas Sir Sam🤠🚂 all the best Neil from Dunkirk
Upsetting to see the Heljan 0-6-0 cause such disfavour! I bought mine over 3 years ago and it is far better finished than the lemon you displayed. I thought it was quite cute! However, it gave up completely after minimal running, so not good, and probably not worth attempting to repair.
I had that mehano train steam loco. And made a slow mo video and pictures, of destroying it,crossing small wooden bridge in backyard, with a lot of dust and few firecrackers..cheap and expendable
This is what I like about how you review these modules you do what others don’t do probably and that is reviewing it others will look at the detail and say it looks good and move on. Performance if it moves they say its good (I’m not saying this for all of them some aren’t like this I know) you tell us if the module is recommended, not recommend, or even in between and I think that’s the most important about your videos.
I had the Bachmann Pacific Flyer. It used the same idiotic coupling as you demonstrated with the same results. The tender constantly derailed. After 1 week the thin arm on the tender broke off. Resisting the urge to throw it out the window I returned it to Amazon. It was my first train and a heartbreaking experience.
I thought the thing on a string was a grave marker! I laughed so much during this video, especially the engine nicknames. Still trying to decide how to destroy the Beattie? ;)
Since the previous Bachmann reviews have you noticed Bachmann are starting to retool the models. The V2 was removed from their range for a while and now it's coming back but completely retooled to a new standard like the recent Midland Railway 1P. Maybe they listen?🤔 I also think Heljan have as well with the soon to arrive new Tango

Excellent video of the worst model trains of 2020 with excellent funny moments 👍👍😆😆
I’ve laugh 😆 a lot when you about to through the beginning models down the stairs and that was so funny.
I would though that you have that London Underground train with a terrified looking face to put in the worst video as you got nightmares of that terrified underground train.
Thanks so much Joe! haha glad you liked that part! xD
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
(It looks like it was found in a desert)
Bruh it’s called the western train does desert not say western or something
haha sure - I guess that's a good thing then?! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
2020: was i good year?
Legitimately everyone: nuh uh
2020: what i do wrong
me: listed 2000000000 things wrong
2020: oh...
haha I guess you're right :(
That’s Bachman coming to get me !
Uh I laughed so much at that :D
haha! xD

Cheers!
Hey look I'm the first comment on the video
Not quite ;)
Noice
Ha you got dethroned
Always love it when this video comes out keep up the work sam
The AliExpress tender, and at least part of the cab reminds me of the classic Märklin DB class 24.
Ooh interesting - wonder if that's where it came from?!
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
YEET 13:45
Sending something away) 1. Put the item in a box 2. Put nails in the box 3. YEET the box from your loft
Hiya Sam - Loving your 'Sound Effects' when you pull that string (did wonder @ 1st what that string was for - but now we know!!!) lol @ 14:30 - Are you having a Giraffe (a laugh - (London Cockney Rhyming Slang & no I'm not from London b4 any 1 asks!!!)) with the Sellotape dispenser???
haha thanks very much James - I think I was having a Giraffe! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
In HO Scale, Bachmann's quality for beginners sets and stuff like that is actually surprisingly decent, and somewhat well detailed. The performance is a little iffy, but most of their models look realistic enough to satisfy most people.
Maybe they should just stick to HO?
Ahh very interesting, I'll have to try more of their HO stuff! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
9:18 Wheels like this are pretty common here in America. It personally doesn't bother me that much, but it's always possible to paint over it. Doesn't excuse Heljan's lack of QC on their products though.
Nr.3 it`s BR 80 by PIko start set. In Poland price is 80 - 170 zloty
Thanks for the info Adrian, I've heard that it's a PIKO model, although my version wasn't a PIKO branded product, so presumably the actual PIKO version would be better quality!
Happy New Year - Sam :)
At 5:27 gave me a bit of a chuckle, ngl lol. Great video as always!
haha glad to hear that, thank you!! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
I bought number one with its set for 40 Euros in an Amazon Outlet of returned products and I can tell you that the locomotive did not come dirty and badly painted like yours. It was only connecting the plug to the electrical network, and the locomotive shot out on the track. Greetings from Spain. Great channel.
I think these are good if you ever run out of firewood or you need to test your new rubbish disposal. Great video, Sam!
Very good point actually, haha!! ;D
Happy New Year - Sam :)
That you for the laughs Sam. Have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Model Train Year.
It's a pleasure Ross - have a good one my friend! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Something i'd love to see is top 5 poorly aged locomotives. Some criteria that could play into it is how fast it aged, how fast it was replaced and the models released at the time.
Something I'd also like to see is worst locomotives of the 1900s, like worst of 2019 and 2020, but with models from the triang days to 1999
Great idea, that could be fun to try! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Funny, wasn’t that long ago I was a kid getting Hornby and Lima models with mechs worse than those!
haha absolutely - we have come a long way since then, I'm not disputing that! xD
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Ahh interesting - thanks a lot for sharing this Arthur! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains no problem Sam! Merry christmas too!😉
This was very nostalgic of when u first reviewed them good video Sam and merry Christmas 🎁
haha thank you - glad you liked revisiting them! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
No surprise to see Bachmann on the list. In the USA their older models that have nylon gears that are cracked most of the time.
Definitely - quite a few Bachmann lemons this year - been quite disappointed by them! :(
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
I will always use a Club hammer whilst wearing a pair of goggles, The fall down the steps was all too gentle.
I never keep crap, that is fit for scrap.
haha that sounds much more effective actually!! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
The tank engine variant of the 3rd model was my first ever model train and I have to say even though I now find it rather bad it will always have a special part in my heart
haha exactly - you can't help but enjoy these!!
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Just know that you won't be able to change mine ;)
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
ha ha ha ha !!!!! tape real falls down ... great comedy Sam... btw i really did thing "Train time" was about to start lol Merry Christmas Sir Sam🤠🚂 all the best Neil from Dunkirk
haha thanks a lot mate - yep, I messed up and used the exact same sound, lol! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
I think you should make the look rusted and put them in a scenic scrapyard on your layout- well the chepo ones anyway
Good idea - that's a fitting punishment! xD
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Upsetting to see the Heljan 0-6-0 cause such disfavour! I bought mine over 3 years ago and it is far better finished than the lemon you displayed. I thought it was quite cute! However, it gave up completely after minimal running, so not good, and probably not worth attempting to repair.
Thanks for sharing Michael! Yes even if they look good (as yours did), the mechanism makes them a total no-go!
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
5:24 a even more fitting sound of the police siren 🚨 also that is now my favorite moment for sams trains
haha!!! I usually cut those out, but this one stayed! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
I had that mehano train steam loco. And made a slow mo video and pictures, of destroying it,crossing small wooden bridge in backyard, with a lot of dust and few firecrackers..cheap and expendable
I am sooooo pleased you didnt launch anything down your loft ladder! Happy Christmas Sam :)
haha, don't watch the last part then, lol! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
‘Send away... hehehehehehe’
I’ve watched a couple of minutes of this video and I’m already dying
haha very glad to hear that Daniel, lol! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
"MUMMY my twain wants to eat me "
"Don't worry I'll chuck it down the stairs!! "🤣🤣🤣
haha pretty much my method! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Thanks so much Steven, really appreciate that mate! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Ahh sorry to hear about that - they're a terrible design aren't they?! :(
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
"Friday afternoon bowel movement" lol. Say no more. Hans.
haha thanks Hans - yeah that says it all really doesn't it?! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
The Western Express loco can join the Underground Ernie caterpillar as evil villains in the next Santa special.
haha totally! xD
I thought the thing on a string was a grave marker!
I laughed so much during this video, especially the engine nicknames. Still trying to decide how to destroy the Beattie? ;)
haha it basically is, lol! Really glad to hear that - absolutely right! ;D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Love the nicknames. Especially the "Friday Afternoon Bowel Movement" one.
that was a lot of fun Sam good to have laugh. Merry Christmas Sam and good health for new year
Thanks a lot Tony, really glad you liked it! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Since the previous Bachmann reviews have you noticed Bachmann are starting to retool the models. The V2 was removed from their range for a while and now it's coming back but completely retooled to a new standard like the recent Midland Railway 1P. Maybe they listen?🤔
I also think Heljan have as well with the soon to arrive new Tango
Yes indeed - been keeping an eye on the new V2 for a while now, should be very interesting! :D
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Have you ever reviewed those cheap f7 designs which always show up in hobby shops?
Great video, Sam. We need more of these to expose greedy and sloppy manufacturers.
Thanks a lot Nigel, I think we do!!
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains And to you too. Keep up the good work. Nigel
Can't believe someone at Heljan looked at that and thought 'oh yeah, onto a winner here.' It is an absolute insult that they sell that.
I agree with you - what were they thinking?!?
Merry Christmas - Sam :)
