- It's time for another tournament! Masters of the arcane arts from all over Skyrim and Solstheim have gathered for the ultimate competition.
I wanted to include mages from various different factions and at least one for each element, to have a clash of different classes and combat styles. So here we have: 1 pure fire mage (Savos), 1 pure frost mage (Malkoran), 2 pure shock mages (Arch Cultist, Briarheart), and 4 hybrids; Thalmor Wizard (shock & fire), Neloth (shock & fire), Vyrthur (frost & shock), and Ildari (shock & frost).
There's also a wide variety of summons (Frost Atronach, Storm Atronach, Dremora Lord, Seeker, Ash Guardian).
Only humanoid mages for now, no Dragon Priests or other creatures (except for Malkoran's Shade).
Daggers are allowed. Except for that, I made sure not to include any spellswords. Something like a Nightmaster Vampire would easily slash through most mages with a few hits.

Neloth just locking down the Miraak cultist with lightning is just hilariously cheeky. Kind of hard to carry out a magic duel when you can't cast anything.

But it's still embarrassing for the cultist who also uses shock spells. He couldn't do the same to Neloth first

Ildari having a staff made a huge difference. Lightning magic does damage to the opponent's Magicka pool, so her having a staff meant that even with 0 Magicka remaining, she could still fight so long as the staff had charge. It doesn't help that the stuff a lightning one, too!
Yes, it does make a big difference! Although even without the staff, she's still one of the best mages in the game. Plus Neloth has 76% total shock resistance, mostly from his boots 😄
Imagine how unfair it would’ve been if Neloth lost to Malkoran’s shade 😂 I guess Ildari is the best mage in Tamriel then. I also would’ve included Thoron from Anniversary edition, he was a beast of a mage.
Thoron is completely unbalanced though. I’d say Thoron vs Zahkriisos would be interesting. Just colossal health and see who empties whose magicka first
Honestly, I'm glad Malkoran's Shade didn't make a difference, because it would have been shitty indeed! 😂

I don't play Anniversary, and probably never will. But as Romi says, Thoron is really unbalanced and I don't find him that interesting 🤷
@@lSlendermaster Malkoran's shade was what took down the Arch Pyromancer in his episode. And it wasn't even THAT far for Neloth had the shade been a little more aggressive and had Malkoran's magicka lasted a little longer for a few more ice storms.

I used to think Savos was top-tier, along with Neloth. But Ildari is on another level!

@@Berlinbower Yes, that's a big factor! Although even without her staff, she's still about as good as Savos and Neloth. She has a range of spells, a lot of HP, magic resistance, and a good summon
THIS WAS AWESOME! The intro, graphics, the idea! WOW!!🥳🥳🥳!! I was really rooting for Malkoran and then Neloth but I can see why both lost. Illdari has a staff that is not dependent on magic, something the rest do not have as a default weapon. Vyrthur had the WORST performance out of the named magical NPCs...he just stood there and got his back blown out with lightning magic.
Thank you very much!! 🥳 😁 I always like how Malkoran just spams ice storms like there's no tomorrow. 😂 Ildari's staff really gives her an advantage, indeed! Vyrthur suffered from his lack of shock resistance. If his AI were good, he would have switched to his dagger and murdered Ildari, but nope. 😂

1: the production of these videos is so over the top and I love it. These videos are a tier above.
2: I feel cheated because Ildari had that staff which obviously also sapps magic. So OP it's crazy.

Already saw comments about a warrior tournament. Maybe warrior/spell swords (not including the ebony warrior)? Falx Carius, northwatch guard (glass armor), bandit chief, forsworn briarheart, frea, whatever the highest class of vampire is, mercenary (ebony armor), Iraleth. Those are just random suggestions. But also the winner of each could go to a "tournament of champions" or teamed up with other tournament winners and face the ebony warrior, Karstaag, Legendary Dragon. You know... Just more work that you didn't ask for.

2. Yup, her staff is definitely a huge issue for everyone else. If they had one by default, I would have included it here too, but since they don't, I kept everything the way it is. Even without her staff, Ildari might still be on a level with Neloth.
3. The most boring part in the video, but also kinda funny! 😂
Falx Carius and Frea have no level cap, so I'm not sure how I would balance them, as I would have to (indirectly) choose a level for them. I could choose something like a static level 100 only for those, or match their level with their opponents', but it's not ideal either way. 🤷 A warrior tournament does sound interesting though, so I'll keep that in mind! The mage one was also something I thought about for a long time, but it happened eventually. 😄

@@lSlendermaster yeah I figured you left the staff because it was part of her standard gear. As far as level caps I'd either pick 40-50 because that's where most higher end enemies top out or lv81 just matching the natural original level cap in game.
@@howboutdemap1es225 Fair enough. 🤔 Maybe 60 is also an option, since some NPCs on Solstheim have this cap rather than 50. Anyway, thanks for the idea!

Yes, it's the first time I did that! I wasn't sure if I should pick a long or a short countdown for the premiere. I chose a short one because it was more of a test, and I didn't want people to think there's a new video, when in reality, it would take another 12 hours or so for it to go live. 😂
I've also set up the premiere almost right after I got up this morning, when I knew everything was ready. I was nervous about messing something up 😂
@@lSlendermaster That’s understandable. Another tournament I’d suggest is a 12 character dual wielder tournament. Characters I’d include are Ralis Sedarys, Frea, Ralof, Jenassa, Raaya, Kematu, Delphine, Mercer Frey, Vendil Severin, Kvenel The Tongue, Brynjolf and that Khajiit thief who tries to mug you. I don’t know if the Forsworn Briarheart is a natural dual wielder or not since most characters are able to dual wield with Forsworn weapons.
@@H.K.5 A few other people have suggested a warrior tournament, which isn't too far off from yours. 😄 There are lots and lots of problems though. First off, I am not going to include more than 8 unless it's absolutely necessary, because I would have to redesign my whole tournament bracket and everything about it, let alone having much more to record and edit. The final product would take many weeks to finish, which is more than I'm willing to do. 😅
Another issue is that some NPCs like Frea have no level cap, so I don't know how I would balance that. I would need to choose a level for them, so their success largely depends on my own input.
Yes, Briarhearts will dual wield with other weapons too, so this wouldn't be an issue. I'm not sure if I'm going to do a tournament like this, but I'm saving your ideas for later. Ralis, Vendil, and Mercer are especially good for that. We'll see what happens. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion 😄

I'm surprised Savos lost to Ildari. Dark Fire resistance came handy. Did Savos have his shock resistance boots?
Thanks!! 😁 Yes, the amount of time I've spent on this video alone is mad. But I ended up with a result that I'm happy with, so it wasn't wasted time! 😎
Savos had decent chances, but Ildari's constant shock spells took him down eventually. His Dremora Lord even survived pretty long and got several hits on Ildari, so it was a good round for him, but not enough. If Ildari didn't have fire resistance, it would definitely be a lot closer. And yes, he had those boots! 😄

Savos' low health didn't help either. Savos vs Neloth is pretty even, maybe Neloth wins 60% of the time. Ildari beats Savos almost always and Neloth maybe 80% of the time.

I agree, this would be very nice! Unfortunately, the only mod which can do this at the moment, TrueHUD, is not good for NPC battles. 😅

@@lSlendermaster Yeah. I even spawned my character and the arena champion that wears the dwarven power armor in the "hall of champions" and tai'd them in place to get around the fact you both don't get statues. Was my favorite arena mod by far.

Yup. 😂 In hindsight, it might have been better if I had used Ancano instead of a generic Thalmor wizard. Unlike Ancano, I had never used those, so I wanted to include one here. But Ancano is much better

I thought for sure Malkoran would win this because almost every time I've fought him he's managed to kill me at least once each time lol. He has given me more problems than any other boss in the game besides Karstaag. I'm actually surprised guys like Hamelyn, Drelas, or that mage from the enchanted spider dungeon in the Reach (forgot his name) wasn't included because those guys have given me problems as well. I definitely didn't know that NPC's could summon Dremora lords until I saw Savos do it in this video. I thought the player was the only one who could summon Dremora lords in the game.
Malkoran is surprisingly deadly because he spams ice storms rapidly, but once he runs out of magicka, it gets a lot easier. 😄Against other mage NPCs, he can get in trouble if they block his ice storms with wards, and a top-tier mage like Neloth can deal with him pretty well.
A lot of named mages actually use generic templates, meaning they have the same stats as generic leveled mages. Examples are: Malkoran (necromancer), Hamelyn (bandit mage), and Drelas (elemental mage). I only have 8 slots for my tournament in total, so I had to be really picky about who I wanted to feature. I chose Malkoran because he's well known, uses spells efficiently, and also has a very high magic resistance. Although you're right, Hamelyn would have been a pretty interesting one to see too!
I love seeing Savos fight, he's really good and arguably has the best conjuration spell! 😎 There are only two NPCs in the entire game who can summon a Dremora Lord; the other one being Sam Guevenne.

imo its unfair that Ildari have a stuff that doesnt absorb her magica :/ Others mages had a pauses beetween casting spells cause they had no mana at the moment, then Iladri killed them cause staff... Unfair #TeamSavos
I think ildari would still have won against Savos without the staff. She has a lot of fire resistance as a dunmer. Neloth would be close.
Yeah, even without her staff, Ildari would easily beat most mages. It does give her an advantage, of course, but that's how she spawns by default. Neloth shows that she can still get in trouble 😎

Realistically Neloth probably should have fought Savos and won, but that staff is just too good. A little ironic too, given that Neloth makes staves.

do you know why for like a got 10-15 seconds the Arch Cultest stopped doing anything, he just stood their taking and took like 3 lightning bolts to the face, was he out of magic, did his AI have a brain fart or something? because if he was out of magic he sould have at least pulled out his dagger and tried to fight like that from what I know of Cultist AI
He was actually out of magicka there. The thing in Skyrim is: Mages are really dumb. They might switch to their daggers when low on magicka, but not if they get their magicka depleted from shock spells. This is the opposite of what should happen, but it's the way it is. That's why the Cultist just stopped doing anything 😂

Conjurer builds are awesome! And Ildari would be extremely good, but I don't think you can resurrect her. Maybe at a low level, I haven't tried 🤷

It's a combination of different things, but his boots are definitely a huge deal! Ildari's ice storms also helped pretty well for sure 😄

Digno de Ildari, la alumna supera al maestro... con razón abandonó las instancias de Neloth ya no tenia nada mas que aprender de él, un mago canaliza su poder para usarlo de manera optima, que Neloth no use Bastón fue su perdición porque desgastó todas sus reservas de magia, mientras Ildari conservó la gran mayoría de su poder magico para curarse, atacar con hielo y usar la Custodia magica, en tanto usar el poder del Bastón para atacar (es una genio)....

It's really weird that Neloth, the master of staves, never has any to use in combat. 😂 Ildari is really efficient, much more than other mages, even if those have a staff as well. Truly a superior character in many ways!

So in the end the apprentice beat the master huh. Wasn’t expecting that outcome. Was hoping savos could beat Ildari so he could prove Neloth wrong. Not that Savos would want to be Neloth’s apprentice though.
Yup, Ildari is insane. Savos and Neloth would also be an interesting battle, but I have done that already in an earlier episode 😄

Hey, welcome! 🥳 Some has suggested a creature tournament before, but those are extremely time-consuming to make, taking dozens of hours. Since my previous (normal) creature episodes didn't interest a lot of people, I'm afraid this would be too much effort for something that many viewers would probably find a bit boring. I might still do something like that one day, but no promise. 😅 Thanks for the suggestion though! I'm saving that idea!

Ildari is a super beast mage! i checked her combat style she got the same as the priest got! so that might be why she is smarter than the other ones lol! if a Normal NPC Uses that combat style then they are in good hands lol
Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it! 😁 Ildari is OP even among top-tier mages. 😂 Funny thing, dragon priests have some of the worst AI in the entire game, but this is different from the combat style. If they were less buggy, they would be really dangerous! 😆

That's usually the reason, yes, although most NPCs are inconsistent with attacks anyway. As for Ildari, her staff definitely helps, but even without it, she's ahead of all the other mages! 😄
An idea for next tournament. How about mercenaries?

I needed Orchendor and Ancano.
Orchendor literally couldn't lose, so that would be really boring to watch. 🤷 Ancano would have worked though! I have never used a generic Thalmor Wizard in my videos though, and haven't seen that in other videos either, so it's a nice variation 😄

Not gonna lie I’m confused, when i first saw the arch cultist on paper I thought it would smash even a nightmaster vampire? Why was I so wrong? I mean they have really high hp, a good mix of spells, and solid perks like rank 3 magic resistance?
Yup, that's a good example for an NPC who looks good on paper, but isn't so great after all. I have actually put him against a Nightmaster, and as soon as he grabbed his war axe, the Cultist didn't stand a chance. 😂
In this case, Neloth's extreme shock resistance was the issue. The Cultist's resistance and magicka regeneration isn't enough to withstand Neloth's shock attacks, which depletes his magicka constantly. The Cultist also suffers from the terrible mage AI, which doesn't make him swap to his dagger when out of magicka by shock damage.
Overall, the Cultist is still a good mage, but not top-tier like Neloth 😄
1:48 this moment was *so cool* , if unintentional. They both basically had a lighting spell in one hand to try and widdle down the other's magicka pool, while bringing out a summon with the other to tank the first attack, except they both did it and at the exact same time ,so the first exchange ended up a stalemate
It feels like the kind of stuff you'd expect in a proper wizard duel

This is format is amazing but I would have really loved to see at least a handful of strong Mages represented to make this tournament more telling.
You could have at least made it twice as big with Mages just as strong as the competitors.
Where is the Endboss from Peryte for example which is known as the strongest Mage thrall in the game.
Or what about Archpyromancer etc (you included Thalmor Wizard so also unnamed enemies?). Or Wyndelion (or whatever his name was). There are so many. Even when you only take the Named actual Characters alone.
There are like 20 Mage enemies on this lvl and some more memorable than many of the ones used here.
A real large scale tournament like this with truely most or all Top lvl Mage Npcs to truely determine the strongest one in the game would have been an absolute bliss. There was so much potential here.
Imagine seeing a Tournament of all Memorable Mage Characters in the Game. Ohhghgg that would have been so amazing 😢
There's a pretty simple reason why it's not bigger: My videos are extremely time-consuming to make, especially the tournaments. Take this one for example: Everything combined, it took 53 hours (yes, you read that right! 😂). Imagine a bigger tournament. I would be doing nothing else every day for an entire month or two. This would mean I would either burn out, not upload anything for many weeks, or drastically reduce the overall quality of the format, which is not what I want. 😅
I also made this tournament bracket as a template a long time ago. Every aspect, from the bracket layout to the icon positions and sizes, as well as all the animations in between the rounds, is adjusted efficiently. If I made a bigger tournament, I would have to redesign literally almost everything, which would increase the production time even more.
The boss mage you're mentioning is Orchendor, but he has 100% magic resistance, which is just plain unfair in a mage tournament. That's why I also didn't put the Briarheart shaman against the Thalmor wizard, for example; the Thalmor conjures a Storm Atronach, which would leave the Briarheart with nothing but a dagger because he can only use shock spells.
An Arch Pyromancer is a good choice, and I use them a lot in my videos. Since there are only 8 slots in my tournament and I wanted to use a wide variety of different mages, including some less common ones like the Cultist, he didn't make it in. We already have Savos as a strong fire mage. I probably would have included the Pyromancer here otherwise.
Wyndelius is a nice idea too. I need to test him at some point. 🤔 But probably not for another tournament, for all the reasons stated above 😅
@@lSlendermaster Honestly I am just here for the fights and results. The Animations in between look very cool but I personally could do completely without super time consuming animations and instead just have a giant Tournament.
Simply setting them against each other shouldn't be much effort at all.
It would just be so cool to be able to bet how far each one makes it in a tournament of let's say 24 NPCs or more.
You could see how far any of your favorite Mages get. Say Farengar or Phinis gestor or any of the other NPCs.
I am sure I am not alone with this.
In fact I think cool in between animations are probably secondary for a majority of the Viewers.
@@eliasvonbrille Even without any editing at all, it would still take a lot of time because NPCs need to be prepared (spawning, setting the aggression, making them non-essential, etc., and this doesn't even scratch the surface). I personally wouldn't enjoy just having the plain battles in my public videos. I actually do lots of random fights but those are unlisted. 😅
Quite a few people have told me how much they like the editing in my videos, so I feel like that is a pretty big factor. 😅 Of course, it's still interesting to hear a different opinion though! Do you know PatPaul by any chance?
@@lSlendermaster No I don't think I know him. Though I have watched quite a few "Battle Arena" RUclipsrs before so there is a good chance that I have seen some of his Videos if he is one.
I have made some Battles myself and I don't think that it's hours of work without very advanced editing but maybe I am doing something different. Using all the commands in my chase takes maybe 30 seconds if I have them all saved and can simply Quick use them. Even if you have 100 commands you could always just copy them.
That being said if you like it the most like this that's what counts. But if you do know any RUclipsr that does plain large scale battles and tournaments I would love to visit their channel.

It depends on the details. There are so many that I don't even know where to begin.
I make sure that the results are accurate, so a single try isn't enough. I repeat the fights over and over, sometimes 100 times for a single round, and pick the best recording. If the NPCs glitch out, or I make a single bad camera movement, etc., I reset and try again.
It also gets complicated with other things. For teams, tweaking the aggression isn't enough, so you need to work with the faction settings. For Protected NPCs that can't die from any non-player damage, you have to remove the flag in the game files. For dragons, you need to make sure they don't fly off. It's a huge rabbit hole. 😂

Someone with immunity to all magic would be very boring here. I don't set up battles that lack a certain balance. For example, I also make all NPCs non-essential, because otherwise, they literally couldn't die. It would not be nice to watch, and definitely not worth being in a tournament 😂
Well i expected the results the moment i saw that she has the staff,in mage battles(i almost always play a mage myself and i roleplay by doing it exactly like this video instead of using tricks) its more a battle between magicka pools rather than health and skills and staves completely turn the table because they dont hse magicka,not to mention the staff she uses is lightning based. If she didnt have the staff i think savos aren could easily win that fight because of fire weakness and he uses incinerate
The staff is very useful for sure! I like that they gave Ildari one by default, since staves are really underrepresented. Although, even without the staff, she's still at least as good as Savos and Neloth, and being Dunmers, none of them have fire weakness, but fire resistance instead 😄

Simply put, he switches between a mage, melee, and staff fighting style. I can make him use only spells, but yes, he would be OP compared to the other mages here and would definitely take the win. His health is gigantic, his resistances are good, and he also has shouts which constantly stagger opponents. So I wanted to avoid him for this. 😅

Marcurio is weak compared to all mages here, and J'zargo is very unbalanced, having no level cap. There are only 8 participants here, so it's not possible to include everyone.

Get rid of the staff, thats a free spell using zero magicka.
It's her default equipment, just like every other mage here. That's what she spawns with in your game as well.
You should have gotten rid of Ildari's staff it's not a true mage battle if they are not using their own magic.
I usually use NPCs with their default gear. Ildari always spawns with that staff, just like Krosis always spawns with his staff of fireballs. Removing Ildari's staff would be a modification I don't want in my battles 😄
