Any bolt which has torque+angle specified, should be changed, since it's torque to yield bolt (bolt is stretched after first used, so if you reuse it, it can stretch past the ultimate tensile strength and brake). So it's stud for the tensioner, camshaft sprocket bolts and all bolts for the engine mount (I've read about lot of cases when they broke and engine dropped on the road).
Also you didn't mention how to properly install engine mount. There have to be gap of 13.5mm between mount and car and mount have to be perfectly straight.
You're looking to far into it mate. Engine mount bolts usually always have a torque+angle but nobody uses more than a torque wrench and usually not even a torque wrench, they just wang it up to what their idea of "won't fall off" is. You can get away with that on older cars like this PD lump but yeah on newer german cars they are so cheaply made that I use my snappy techangle to do all major bolts and studs as you will easily break newer cars with applying gorilla strength. As for tensioner and pulley bolts, this is a slow running engine, if you were talking say a Yamaha R1 engine then yes 100% but not on a PD lump mate. These are proper diesel engines that don't just jump out the engine bay because you didn't use £700+ of snap on techangle.
@@lastaccountbannedfortalkin1449 Kinda agree, but I already heard about few people loosing the engine, because of snapped reused bolt. Modern German engineering is not bulletproof anymore, they engineer everything spot on, with little room to error. What I mean is that they using M6 instead of M8, cause in that milion engines that they produced, it saves them fortune. So if you reuse that M6 bolt, which was designed to be used to it's limits, you will overcome yeild point, after which plastic deformation occurs and bolt can easily fail. I believe a lot of thing in VW cars is engineered to last 200t km, cause I keep changing lot of parts (usually some small plastic piece), which fails around that range, for example. All the locks are motorized, with plastic lead screw, lock would last forever, but that plastic lead screw always fails after numerous cycles. If it was slightly bigger, would last lifetime, but then they wouldn't sell any spare parts.
Not 100 pct true; bolts cannot be stretched beyond their elastic limit, even on their first time,; bolt steel is steel ,is steel...
There are numerous types the 10.9 and the 12.9 being near the best there are ( 10x100 N/mm2 and 12x100 N/mm2
IF you consult almost all manufs.repair manuals, they tell you HOW to know IF the bolts (HEAD BOLTS included) need,or not,to be renewed;
i am an engineer who works on car repairs, and i think that in 30 years i have never bought new bolts for head gaskets or anything else; i know how to check them; there is no such thing as "stretch" bolts in the sense that the RUMOUR has spread(some making money off them streeeeetch bolts lol);
All bolts are stretch in the sense that they clamp the parts as they stretch nearing their elastic limit; the ANGLE on the torque specs made up by the engineers is there for ONE reason only: because of bad mechanics.
Thanks
@@lastaccountbannedfortalkin1449 most sensible comment on here, real world mechanics understand, weekend driveway warriors do my head in with their fucking “replace every bolt” approach
@@josepeixoto3715 I don't agree, TTY bolts are stretched past the elastic range (yield point), where you get close to maximum tensile strength (highest clamping force). Just check tensile stress-strain diagram. I'm not saying that in real life every reused TTY bolt will snap, but it's like not using seat belt, one can drive whole life safely without using it, other one can died on their first ride, cause not using seatbelt. If manual says replace the bolt, then replace it, it cost few bucks so what's the point.
Hats off to this man he is probably the best mechanic poor guy is doing this most of the time one hand, no ramp, no indoor conitions, no locking tools and loneski!
Mans just did a timing belt with one hand xD
This guy should be an inspiration to us all, absolute star. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm a mechanic myself but I have to give this guy a sub and like.
Best Michanic. I changed my car timing belt kit today . I watched this video that’s why I did . Well done 👍 thank you for your experience
all hand tools and with one hand .. now THATS a mechanic .. well done sir !!
i have to do the same removing the water pump as it is faulty and doing the sump that not easy as three bolts its next to the gear box and have a wobbly elbow this is onm y seat ibiza 1.9 i wish it some time it stop raining to do the job lol and i have a van doing welding and hope to pass its mot
grate video
Hello , I,m doing this on my caddy maxi van , same engine , but not the greatest information as to how here in England , your video is a great help , & you have shown me how to get the timing pushrod right in , before slackening the camshaft screws , I,d got this wrong , but haven,t lost the timing , ( never done a VW before ) .Also shown me how to handle the tensioner & tensioning the belt , all very awkward to get at in the van but like you did , jacking the engine up just enough helps . I could not understand how slackening the camshaft screws would not lose the timing , so I wouldn,t slacken them , now I see that the pushrod , when correctly in , holds the camshaft in place & it,s safe to slacken the camshaft pulley screws , thank you very much for your help & Best Regards from England .
Fantastic video, must have been a nightmare one handed! Great effort, Thank you!
O man best video i ever seen on how to change a timing belt. Your the best
Jak na tak trudne warunki , tzn. wszystko zrobione jedną ręką-to mistrzostwo świata.
This is actually the best video i've seen on how to change timing belt. Great video man! :)
Exactly, without shiting a lot, only works and explains good enough
Good job, thanks. And i liked the sounds of the birds and church bell in the back ground. Tom. Sweden.
Awesome video, I'm going to try this on my Golf tdi!
Did everything using 1 hand.. respect!

Great video my dude! (Get some extensions👍)
أنت ممتاز و بطل لي أنك كنت تعمل بي يد واحدة.

Thank you very much for sharing, good work with success so satisfying
Wow that looked hard work with one hand and no buzz gun. Good video though
Probably should replace water pump at the same time. Good video!

Very nice. Saved me time by not having to think what goes next, how do I remove this etc......
I used a breaker bar to lock the crank by it's bolt against the control arm once I found the hole for the cam. Which I used a torx for. But it has to be flush, so punch it in a bit.
This of course does not tell you if it skipped a tooth but if the engine was running ok before.....
Anyways thank you very much!
Thanks for your Video. You need to adjust your video description. Please remove "bad" from the first line. Acutally the video sequence on 26:40 seems to be right and not bad :)
Gute arbeit mit ein Hand Chef .LG
danke
Wooow man u are the best !!!
Thank you .and Well done..Much Appreciated.
Well done good job by one hand 🖐 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🤞🤞🤞🏆🏆🏆
Top work! Tanks
Merci pour votre vidéo
très bonne voiture la golf 5 1.9 TDI !
Someone please get this man some power tools. You just made this job look so difficult 😞 and please people if you are going through all this bother please change the water pump
Vdaka za Video :-)
My vibration dampener(the lowest wheel at the crankshaft) had 12mm starbit, to turn engine I had to use 19mm socket, to turn camshaft I had to use 18mm. 13mm to losen the camshaft roller/wheel, 17mm to loosen serpentine belt tension. The motor mounts had 14-16mm sockets too with the starbits on the inside. BXE motor code.
Just be sure not to turn camshaft or crankshaft 180 degrees and mark the positions before changing the belt.
And you should change the bolts that hold the tensioner and the rollerwheel.

Bravo bon travaillé
thank u for video
many thanks from uk
❤❤❤ You are a star ❤❤❤
Отличное видео
спасибо
perfect job
The belt was all shifted towards the right edge of the pulley after you made the first few turns by hand. Then did it center itself (settling) on the pulley?
Next time pin the aux belt tensioner, that makes the lower 15mm easy to remove 👍🏻
He looks like he did that off camera if you see the gap between him getting the tensioner to move up and down freely and when he cut and skipped to the coolant bottle
The video is not the best. That's why he made a mistake. Always tighten the tensioner nut with a torque wrench. If you don't use the torque wrench, you can overstretch the stud, which can eventually pull the thread out of the cylinder head and the car skips the timing. I've seen it on a couple of occasions.
I agree that you can do the job without special tools if you carefully follow the markings and mark the points on the crankshaft and cams before removing. If the screws loosen on the cam puley, they must return to the same position, otherwise the ignition angle changes. You can check which angle you are on the diagnostics scan tool. The best is around 0 or 0.5.
Always use a torque wrench and tighten as prescribed.
The purpose of the "missing" tool is to fix the crankshaft in the top dead center of the first piston. Your crankshaft marking will lead to misadjustment since the old belt is lengthened over time and you will not eliminate that misadjustment when installing the new belt.
Gbbhb BB .
Great video man, your accent is pretty cool. Where are you from?
GREAT JOB BUT IT's better to replace the water pump .
Spischal .tomach working is. not Eziy cayer full must .thanks your vidiyu
what multimedia system do you have? it looks verry good
Good job

Very good. Thank you.
Good video should have replaced water pump too as an extra precaution.
thanks a lots it was a perfect prosseser u did all was corect im self mekanic
Nice😎
Hello. One question, the tension indicator on the tensioner changes after the engine is warm? Mine changes from the maximum limit. The timing belt and accessories are new! Thanks
You Can change the waterpump once eveey second timing belt replacement.
His right hand must have been spotlessly clean after this job
top man.....
Thanks
26:40 bad insert timing belt on camshaft pulley (camshaft tooth wheel). after work check torsion value on diagnostic tools. (settings timing)
Yes make sure you adjust torsion values Mr golf Wagen, otherwise poor power and mpg
Stupid
@@aqib2000 how do you properly adjust those torsion values? What is the instructions?
that´s because you loosen the three bolts
Hi is that screw bit you used to take off the mount a m12
Nice👍💪👍
Great video thank for sharing it.... no new water pump?
That's what I'm wondering?
Your pulley is semi floating at the top the cam pulley should be turned all the way clock wise then put the belt on and tension
Insert tool nemám po ruke zrovna lol :-D
Around 7.40 Remove tyre bay uper plastic cover behind that plastic cover you have hole and unscrew engine mount without problem.
My back hurts just watching thus
14:05 on my golf v SDI engine... i cannot remove the 3 bolts !!! and yes, i have 3 not 4, i guess "previous owner" is to blame.
I use a breaker bar with an extension but the whole crank just rotates LOL
help ?! I have a DEKO 18V impact driver but it too cannot force it out!
Awesome job man , even more after i notice that you made almost all the work with one hand only to film it , next time ask other person to film it dude . Just a question you did 160.000 kilometers with the old belt total of 5 years ? I ask that because i just purchase a golf iv with PD130 and my belt have 90.000 and 4.5 years and i.m already afraid because the car was stoped almost a year .
I'm going now at 150.000 km and 7 years😂
@@teiskolainenmaajussi74 That's way too much and very dangerous , your engine could break while you where driving.
please tell me !! name of the song turn in the car ??
That is great , but how do we get the bird out of the engine?..
Is good video but you didn't display when you adjust camshaft pully mark from the right side was little loose
Zdar, je výměna rozvodů stejná jako u 74kw 1.9tdi?
👍😉
Muy macabro...
hey in the 1.6 tdi cayc skoda octavia 2 fl 2011 engine I have driven 89 thousand km and 9 years need to change the timing drive?
9 years = yes, need change
Old belt looks pretty decent
wouldnt let him loose on a lego brick
Water pumpe? Timing sinchronizate 0,0" pozition? Amater bad replicate timing belt
Is the tensioner not suppose to be tighten anticlockwise?
no
