To say there is no scandal when most DEMOCRATS don’t think Biden is mentally cognizant, is obviously wishful thinking.
He also gets fairly emotional when making his case. Was he this emotional during the past elections?
@@spencer2978 I believe you're conflating "scandal" with "controversy." "scandal" denotes public shock and distrust over a moral failing or illegal wrongdoing. Mental decline isn't immoral or illegal. The professor certainly knows how to interpret his own formula.
@@honkymonkey9568 Yes I believe that occurred with the presidential debate. That was the catalyst for all these calls to step down. A scandal doesn’t have to be a moral or legal matter. It can be an embarrassment or a failure as well.
Cenk is right that some of these keys are subjective, and Professor Lichtman’s biases certainly seem to be influencing a few. The mere fact that he counters back with some criticism of Trump when asked about Biden losing keys is a pretty obvious indicator of that.
He also wants to give Biden the key on the economy. This is a factor that should be subjective rather than objective. Most Americans do not believe we are in a good economy under Biden and they trust Trump and the GOP more due to inflation. Again, Americans are going to vote on what they BELIEVE is happening in the country rather than by whether or not we are technically in a recession.

Biden has exceeded expectations of every progressive in terms of domestic policy and every progressive should be happy with his legislative performance. I don't watch many TYT videos, as I'm not a fan, but I'm surprised at so many negative comments toward Cenk for this viewpoint compared to "The Professor." Cenk has a point that Lichtman seems to ignore. Undecided voters already questioned Biden's mental competency before the debate, and this judgment was reinforced after the debate. Lichtman compares it as just a bad debate to past candidates who won after bad debate performances. He compares electorate concerns about Biden's age to those concerned about Reagan's age in 1979 and 1983, but Reagan didn't come across as senile or physically frail in his campaigns. Lichtman is comparing apples to oranges. Biden's incipient senility is a special circumstance. I don't know whether it's best to replace him or not, but Cenk's point is logical, and Lichtman seems to dismiss it as irrelevant.

That one was easy to predict after watching his debate performance for that race. He kept heckling Smith and acting like a brutish moron while she completely ignored him and kept addressing the crowd like he wasn't even there. Based on the end results, you'd swear he WASN'T even there.
Cenk wasn’t really confident about his California or president aspects because of how the media was portraying him. He knew he wasn’t going to win both races, so technically he made a prediction and those predictions were correct. He also said if he was reading these articles put out on him by the LA times HE wouldn’t vote for himself.

Election models based on past results and assumptions work until they don’t.
The enthusiasm for Trump is absolutely off the charts; I don’t think there’s anything like it in American political history. That’s what isn’t being accounted for here. And let’s not forget that there’s already been a 13 point swing as compared to 2020. Considering how polarized the country is, that is friggin gigantic.
All signs point to a Trump electoral college landslide and significant popular vote victory. And I don’t think swapping Ole Sniffy out at the convention will change things; it’s their policies which are the problem, not their personalities. Best for the Democrats now to just concede the White House and focus their resources on down ballot races so they don’t get wiped out at every level.

I don't know if the Professor's theory is all that valid. But he is certainly better at predicting then the polls are, particularly the July polls.

That’s a fair prediction; his point isn’t he is always right. His point is that you can’t shortcut yourself into predicting with superficial keys. You have to actually do the hardwork.

Cenk, with all due respect, Lichtman doesn't make his preduction til August and the only race he has predicted incorrectly since 1984 was 2000.

And even then he was technically correct when you consider the votes in florida and it was the first since the 1800s that the popular vote didn't match the electoral college!

And 2000 was the race that the Supreme Court gave to George Bush. If the counting had continued, Gore would have won Florida and become President.
Allan got 10 out of 10 elections right. 2000 election was stolen. Al gore was supposed to win, but the Supreme Court messed that up. Florida was supposed to go for Al gore.

Cenk, thanks for having this debate with professor Lichtman. I looked forward to it and thought it was interesting and revealing. These debates help me to really shape my opinion on political matters that I do not know about, as I am trying to learn as much as I can. In this debate, however, Cenk, it seems to me that you tried to box Lichtman into a corner and he was not going there and would not be budged to do so. Evidence of this was how he articulated himself very well and most importantly, calmly. His calm demeanor made him come across confident and clear on his points. I thought you brought up some good points as well but at times, it seemed like your emotions, once again, got the best of you and you sounded frustrated with the evidence of talking louder, interrupting him, and saying things like "Ridiculous" while he was talking which is disrespectful. I think that you have great points and a full knowledge base but your emotions tend to cloud your debating skills to where you come off as if you are trying to convince the world that the other person is a moron; and that's not good in any debate. But, again, great work on TYT content and keep up the great work educating us!

He actually hints at a VERY good criticism of the 13 keys model. The problem with Lichtman is that his entire system monitors the side effects of stable governance rather than stable governance itself.
It’s like incumbency: Cenk was right to point out that in this case, incumbency for Biden is a net negative despite Lichtman’s model saying otherwise. Voters are concerned about Biden’s fragility and having been deceived by his entourage regarding his health.
Lichtman makes money off of his prediction track record, that’s why he’s appearing on the media and saying things to try and sway public opinion.

Frankly, anything can happen between now and November. I recall that in Feb. 2020 the pundits and media were all but guaranteeing that Trump would be re-elected. While I don't expect another pandemic to upend our lives, there's no telling what might befall either candidate or an event that could alter the landscape.

I agree. Lichtman seems too keen on defending Biden and, in trying to justify his candidacy, is being too Biden-friendly on his interpretation of his own keys. Scandal, third party, and others are playing against Biden this time and he refuses to concede those.

Even if replacing Biden doesn’t change the dynamics of the democratic parties ability to beat Trump. Say Biden did the right thing and let the 25th amendment be invoked and Kamala was sworn in
now.
Their chances of beating Trump are the same.
But we would if we won, have someone who can actually do the job where as if we wait, we don’t and Kamala has to step in anyway.

The only reason he may end up being wrong would be if people only pay attention to sound bites and clips from the debate and completely ignore the threat of Trump becoming president again.
