This is the results of hiring management with fancy degrees. Watch behind the attractions and you’ll see the imagineers and leaders that built the true magic started in the parks as ice cream servers and popcorn cart operators, they worked up from the bottom and truly understood the magic. These people loved the parks and you saw their work continue that.

During Chapeck’s reign when they blatantly said how they want to focus more on people who visit less and spend more, how the hell did nobody think that was going to be terrible long term? Not surprised that Disney World is seeing less profits due to them finally milking their guests beyond what many feel is worth it anymore.

They SHOULD be focused on people who visit less often and who spend more money. AP's makes money but they've realized a lot of locals have spent less and less over the last several years. also, the whole trend of "we're moving to Orlando to live close to the parks" is slowly declining. rent and home prices are very high and the economy generally doesn't lend itself to those without upper middle-class jobs which isn't always easy to find in the area.

    • @Attmay

We went to the Disney parks in Orlando this August and you can honestly see and feel the cuts. The parks were just as busy as when we went in April 2019 but the bathrooms were not stocked with toilet paper and were filthy, the rides were CONSTANTLY shutting down, lines were looooong, and the staff were noticeably unhappy. The disney magic is gone. I am a disney fanatic but I am DONE. We won't be returning to the parks.
Releasing a shit movie is one thing- i am only out $40....but a bad experience at the parks cost me $10,000....I don't know why more people are not talking about the huge decline at the parks. I feel like I have been gaslit by everyone!

I've been saying this since like 2017. Iger rejected creativity within the company, and went about buying up other creative entities, and then put them under the thumb of Disney, and stifled their creativity as well. Everything became homogenized. There was NO OTHER way this was going to wind up. None. Endgame, truly was the endgame.
I was always saying once Star Wars fatigue sets in, and superhero fatigue sets in, combine that with some unforseen financial crisis, and the company would be in the same place it was when Eisner stepped in to save it. There is no Eisner this time.

That's incredibly hyperbolic; especially when you compare it to other studio. Since 2019 Disney animated films were all original "Lightyear is the only from previous IP". Only 1 live remake was released theatrically since 2019. No Star Wars film was released then. I donnu who started this narrative, literally Disney is the only one making original animated films.
Then there's D+: Disney claims 2/3's of Nielsen top streamed films every year. Only 7films opened in the top 25 opening week: 2 are Netflix 5 are Disney. Disney's films are successful and get more eyeballs than any other studio, but they share that success with Disney+.
So both financially and creatively, Disney still leads the box office.

Interestingly, Dollywood has openly mentioned they are positioning themselves to provide a Disney quality themepark experince at a lower cost and recently have almost locked their ticket prices to be exactly half the price of Disney consistently and its visibly working. Their high levels of investment and low prices have yielded extremely high growth rates of visitation over the past few years and theyre adding at least 3 more large hotels along with the one the just opened to make it a full resort destination. At least Eisner encouraged creativity, ideas, risks, even if some of them didn't work out. I would still prefer Eisner at the helm as he did focus on the parks. He also started the deal to acquire Pixar Studios, but I think he still would have kept 2D animation as well as adopted 3D Animation from Pixar for future animated movies.
When I worked in Disneyland in 2003 during the transition from Eisner to Bob Iger's park management, you saw a mass firing of long term cast members including those who had worked there since opening day at Disneyland as well as a mass firing of most of the safety minded cast members, those who loved their jobs making the guest experience Disney was known for, and those who were full of creativity were either stifled or laid-off.
The idiots and those only there for a paycheck or were Iger's minions were the ones who stayed working at Disneyland. Almost all who supported Eisner were fired or laid-off within the first two years after Bob Iger became CEO.

So sad about the lights being gone. Lights are a major part of almost any holiday time celebration. Disney's cheapness is taking the parks experience from what use to be a 1st rate A+ experience where you had an amazing experience to something very mediocre. $3M is a drop in the bucket to a company like Disney. The reputation management is doing to the Disney brand may be irreversible. Many adults take their kids to Disney because of the awesome memories they have of things like the castle being lit up during the holidays and such. When they stop going because of the absence of all the special touches the kids will not go when they grow up. Management is killing the brand and magic, which took a lifetime to build, for short term earnings and profit. Sad to see the magic dying.

It's so confusing to people, creates so much stress during people's vacations to try and figure everything out and planning everything, and it ties you to your phone all day long. Yeah there are some people who like it, but I generally see negative reviews on it versus positive ones. Sell a Fast Pass single use per attraction day pass (separate from your ticket) and let families just do what they want when they want. No more planning, stressing out to get to the next attraction all the way across the park from where you are (or if the previous attraction had a delay), no more staring at your phone all day seeing where you need to go next, etc. That way if a Fast Pass lane is busy at the moment, they can skip it and com back later when it isn't. I have been to Tokyo Disney. My favourite park. And 2 weeks in Japan with a Disney trip added costs the same or less than 2 weeks at a moderate park at wdw. I used to visit wdw often, but uk customers need the incentive to get us back there. I should add that only was my Tokyo trip cheaper we stayed in a super deluxe hotel. If we did moderate hotels we could have stayed longer and also spent more time at the parks. We had 4 days. Compare the day prices? You will be shocked

You've become my go-to channel for pretty much anything Disney related. All these other channels LOVE to blow smoke up Disney's a$$ even if they're upset with their decisions. You're a clear lover of the brand and express your discontent in a very professional and heart felt matter that speaks to us all that feel equally upset about all this as you do. I have a feeling that a great flood is about to come in and wash away the bad waste this leadership has made and get back on track with Walt’s original vision.
Once Epic Universe is built in Orlando they will need better leadership in place for what’s about to hopefully put a massive dent in there value because many of the good Disney Imagineers went to Universal Studios and I hope that park wakes Disney leadership up.

Nothing in Disney has changed that would bring me or those I know back to the parks. Chapeck's changes were a mixed blessing for all the families I know. Between Universal and other parks, Dollywood, the Ark Encounter, Silver Dollar City, Bear Country USA, Reptile Gardens, on and on. There are so many great parks I never looked into while I was a Disney Fan. Disney was the top dog at one point and it was a guarantied great investment for family trips. Disney is no longer "Magical" it is just another one of the parks available to choose from and by far the most expensive for the same experience we can get at many other places in the country for less expense.
Thank you Disney executives for opening my eyes to other opportunities!!

Now of course that price includes genie, park hopper and parking. Let that really sink in for a minute folks! A single day at Disneyland just to get inside costs $315! ONE DAY!!! If it wasn’t for passholders at Disneyland, they too would be struggling just like WDW.

I hate Disney as a whole nowadays after previously being a fan for 40 years, but I still watch your excellent content, Brayden. We finally went back to WDW this past summer, mainly because of Fort Wilderness, and Genie+ has borderline ruined the experience all by itself. There were still aspects of WDW that we enjoyed, but the increased costs combined with the decreased amenities has put me off of WDW entirely. Our plan now is to save up and go to Epic Universe in a few years. I’m not sure when or if we will ever return to WDW. It’s a shame because I used to be enthralled with the place, but there doesn’t seem to be much to look forward to anymore.

    Totally on point.
*And* this might seem off point, but I don’t think it is: BRING BACK (NEW) DISNEY ANIMATED FILMS WITH CLASSIC, BROADWAY MUSICAL-LIKE SCORES!
I may be a little prejudiced because I sang in two such Disney films, but I just got back from a WDW trip and had conversations with TWO different parties in which others brought up that exact point (and neither knew about my singing).
People LOVE those songs, and entire emotional experiences get built around them.
I can’t hum a single song from Star Wars or anything Marvel, but I can think of at least thirty songs from animated Disney musicals that I could easily start a singalong with in the middle of any queue at a Disney park.

I was wondering why you were gone for so long. We LOVE Disney but we just can't afford it. The last time we went, we stayed in a tent at the camp ground and only did MK 1 day. We loaded 2 loaves worth of PBJ bread loaves into a locker with apples and water so we could eat. We haven't gone back since before lockdown, so you know we can't afford it now. So we drove from Michigan to Dollywood, rented a cabin in the mountains for the week for less than a Disney trip. We loved it and felt like we had better family time doing mulitple things than just a park.
Something you may find interesting talking about regional parks. Six Flags and Cedar Fair is merging into 1 company. I think that is very interesting for the theme park world. Just thought I'd share that bit of regional park news.

We usually all go but now my son is opting out making me question if I should as well I go for my kids/grand kids and I to have a family trip in together. 😞 I’m a WDW original first time in 1977 so I see the awful changes and love you being so young and seeing they are taking what made it magical away 😢

About 6 years ago, after coming back from a WDW trip, it came apparent to me that purchasing a full package at rack rate through Disney would become way too expensive and not worth the trip. We pivoted to DVC, which to me, was the best way to be able to pay forward on our stay at WDW. However, even DVC has been pillaged to the point of the only perks you get is a bigger than standard room and an occasional “Welcome Home”. There is really no incentive that separates DVC members from those that have purchased at the rack rate. Even the DVC Villas have become smaller and smaller while the price per point has gone way up. It comes to a point where you start to wonder if paying the dues is worth it vs selling the contract and just staying off property in an AirBNB or VRBO rental home when coming to the parks.
