  • Let's take a look at one of World of Warships' oldest cruiser lines: the Japanese heavies. Starting off, allow me to introduce Tier V's Furutaka.
    00:00 - Intro
    00:08 - Meet Furutaka
    04:19 - Survivability
    06:20 - Armor
    09:41 - Maneuverability & Concealment
    12:36 - Main Battery
    21:06 - Torpedoes
    24:06 - Depth Charges
    24:52 - AA Defenses
    26:11 - Upgrades & Consumables
    28:25 - Commander Skills
    30::44 - Sample Gameplay
    Furutaka is unique in World of Warships: the only Tier V tech tree TRUE heavy cruiser in the game (HMS Hawkins falls just a tad short with her 190mm main battery guns). It means she plays completely differently from anything players have likely experienced before as they work up the IJN cruiser branch, and they encounter it sooner than they do in the cruiser lines of other nations. She's an incredibly capable ship, but there's a lot to take in. In this video I'll talk about how I build my Furutaka, why I fit her out that way, how I recommend playing her, and follow all of that up with a game demonstrating the ship in action.
    Enjoy!

    Again a solid start to a tech tree line. SeaRaptor, I can't tell you how valuable these "how to play" series are for the player base. It has been awhile since iChase and Notser were teaching the player base and as I learned this game, they were absolutely invaluable to me. The current state of the game makes it more important than ever that someone with your skill follow on in their tradition and update what they started. Well done, sir!

    20:06 Just to add some info, the 3x2 layout we have in game is also historical. Kako was rebuilt in 1936-37 and Furutaka was rebuilt in 1937-39 where in they, among other things, replaced the six single mounts with the three twin mounts. How Furutaka looks in game is how she looked when the war started until she was destroyed off Cape Esperance

    Ahhh yes, the old Furry Taco.... I remember on the first release how much of a shock this ship was going from something like the Kuma to this monster, monster slow turning guns it was insane and this ship was so hated..... I forget who did a video on it, but an early creator did a video of how to play to get people to understand though maybe not great, but this ship had some promise, and her update and rework really helped boost her into something fairly fun.

      When they added the original C hull - with this turret configuration - the ship was 2000% better literally overnight.

    Solid advice. I messed around with Furutaka a bit before watching this. (Had to spend time blowing off the dust first, after years in port.) Very good advice. I started off with the turret traverse upgrade, because they are really slow. But I shifted over to the accuracy upgrade, and it made much more of a difference than I expected.
    Landed at least one torpedo, every game but one. On the small mid-tier maps 10km covers a lot of real estate.
    Looking forward to the Aoba video. Better range, much better armor. . . But I expect that it will be easier to run Furutaka against Tier VII than Aoba against Tier VIII. Particularly subs and carriers.

    The British 7.5" guns were the reason for the "allownce" for heavy cruisers in the treaty. I don't think 8" guns even existed before the Washington Treaty. The "A" hull went away about two or three years ago. Some of the accuracy is to make up for only having six guns. Broadside Omaha's are so much fun, just remember they have torps too.
    Furutaka was my most played ship until I got into DDs. I got the Aoba but don't have a captian in it yet, they are in the Atago, Tone and Maya. The IJN line the guns and torps are both to be used in conbination if possible. Try to get the torps off first as you can stealth torp an approaching ship.
    A close in IJN DD can citadel a broadside IJN cruiser with AP.

    I love my IJN cruisers and have about 3K matches in the line; from the Furu up through.
    "Not best in class, but very good for tier" describes most of their characteristics, particularly ship handling. I equate the ship handling of the line to a high end luxury car, it's a pleasure to drive.
    "no a good DD hunter." Are you kidding? With the accuracy of that HE you wreck DDs. Add your good Hydro and ship handling and you run down DDs as good/better than any other cruiser in tier. You even demonstrate this with the first DD you run into.

      When I say "DD hunter", I'm talking about dedicated, I chase you down and find you kind of play. If someone else will spot them, these ships RUIN destroyers with the accuracy of their hard-hitting HE shells. But they don't have access to radar and the hydro only goes so far.

    If I remember right the ellipse for the Japanese heavy cruisers is the normal destroyer ellipse

      I'm going to do a bit more research before the Aoba video to see if I can quantify it.

    Around 47:30 you start talking about "resets," but never explain what that's supposed to mean, and I don't see anything in-game that could explain it. What are these resets you keep mentioning?

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Месяц назад +1

      The green "defense" ribbons are commonly referred to as "resets", because you are resetting the capture progress of the ship that you hit with your guns or torps.

    Ah yes, A Hull Furutaka. It is so bad that people giving her a nickname “The Furry Taco” it is disgusting and no fun to play with. After WG introduced her refit design. She become one of the best Tier V CAs in the game.

      Experience earnings depend partly on (a) what you're driving and (b) what you applied the damage to. If you are, say, a cruiser, and you spread that 90k damage around amongst 5 battleships and only get one kill, that damage is a lot less valuable than if you had done a big chunk of it to perhaps a destroyer instead.

    ALL of the IJN CA line has bad anti-aircraft...all the way up to Zao. It's all bad.

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  11 месяцев назад

      Ibuki and Zao are... passable. That's about as generous as I can be. The rest are garbage.

    • @Verdha603
      @Verdha603 11 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately that’s also historically correct (least if you follow the real steel IJN CA’s). The IJN answer to improve AA was generally just to slap more Type 96 25mm guns all over it, and those guns had a poor rate of fire, poor traverse rate, and relied on just throwing enough lead in the air to eventually hit something, since they were designed back when the designers considered a biplane to be fast.
      Least the Ibuki and Zao get passable AA since to my knowledge the dev’s decided to slap the 100mm dual purpose guns on for long range AA and the Zao even got some 40mm Bofor’s thrown on top of that, both of which were better AA guns than the 25mm Type 96’s.
