      @@SeaRaptor Had to watch this one again. Personally when you take the time to pause and help explain your thought process and strategy going forward are extremely helpful. And the way you were citadelling that Ranger your torps wouldn't have had time to get there before he sank anyways. Plus it feels so good racking up Citadels.

    "tactical Notser"? 😀 Sure, we've all learned that advanced play technique. The USN dd line was my first, and while I enjoy playing them as is, you have given me some new and interesting things to think about in regards to upgrades and Captain's skills. Still not sure about the AA, but what the heck, let's give it a try. Once you get up to the Benson, be sure to talk about how to smoke for your team. Keep up the good work. o7

    At one point being strapped for cash I sold my Nicholas (and Omaha come to think of it...) to make up the difference I needed to get Alex Nevsky. And what a mistake that was! Nevsky was strong enough I suppose but it only reminded me of why tier-X play bores me. At this point I'm collecting tier-X ships only to cash in on seasonal rewards! (Although I make exception for Minotaur, she's always been fun and exciting and well balanced regardless of the meta.)
    Finally remembered about Nicholas a couple of days ago and I was shocked at how I'd forgotten just how much I love early-mid tier gameplay. I've had Hill for a long time (my first ever ship supercontainer drop) and she's perfectly representative of the shenanigans of the IV-V-VI-VII spread but Nicholas doesn't just say "hold my beer" she slams another three back and pays her tab in full before going nine for nine at the billiards table. She's a real hustler, that one!
    Oh, and she's probably the best and most underestimated AA platform in her spread. I'm not saying that Tier IV or VI carriers are very good by any stretch, but normally neither are the AA that they run across. Nicholas is a stark reminder to CV captains that it's not all sunshine and roses for them. Ironically I think this is what makes a good Lexington player actually dangerous -- they learn how to pick their targets because Nicholas puts up such a strong wall of "don't touch me!" when they're still on Langley.

      What about Langley makes her take special notice of Nicholas?

    The guns do a really good job of covering for the deficiencies in the torps, and the torps are quite good once their weaknesses are covered.
    As a really good gunboat, you can use the guns and spammy torps to win the DD knifefight (range isn't as big a deal there), and once you've won that, the enemy cruisers and BBs have to push into you to do anything (if they just run away you can win by caps)... which once again makes your low torp range less of an issue, as you can ghetto stealth torp people coming towards you.

    Ah yes, Nicholas. That one ship it seems everyone learns to run without training wheels on. When "how to destroyer" starts to become a challenge.

    As a new player do you have any thoughts or recommendations as to which country or line of ships to start with

      I realize it's a bit of a homer pick, but I truthfully feel like the American ships are all very well-rounded and straightforward to play.

    How do you go about lowering the detection on destroyers on PC? I am coming to the PC version from console and it is a lot different but so far I am loving it.

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Год назад

      Two main ways. The first is a 4-point commander skill called "Concealment Expert". You'll need a 10-point commander in order to have access to this skill, but it lowers a destroyer's detection by 10%. The other is an upgrade. Starting at Tier VIII, you can install the "Concealment System Modification 1" upgrade to further reduce the surface detection by 10%.

    Huh, didn't realize they removed the 5"/51 armament on Nicolas. I mean, no one used them practically but didn't expect that. Also, dear viewer, the US Destroyer DFAA is the best DFAA in the game as it has a 100% buff to continuous damage compared to the normal 50% of almost all others (Stalingrad has the worst at a 25% buff), so it definitely works wonders against CV's

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  2 года назад

      Yeah, they did this a while back. While I miss those guns, it homogenizes the line a bit and helps smooth over moving from one ship to the other. Those 5"/51s were sexy, but they were utterly unique to one mid-tier ship in the line and always felt a tad out of place.
