Yes, keep the vintage and/or unusual RC content coming. I vote that you keep it looking stock but update what is necessary to make it drivable (e.g. a better steering servo)
Excellent video! Love the old weird stuff! We spec raced those when they came out. They were a riot! Almost cartoonish on the carpet. The rear toe links were the weak point.
Since I got into RC in the last couple of years, I'm trying to learn the history of it. I truly enjoy these obscure RC things that have been done over the years. This is fantastic and I can't wait for more.
I'm not surprised the old electronics worked, because not that long ago things were actually built to last. I have a Tekin Titan Gold ESC I ran in a Kyosho USA-1 way back in the early 1990's that still works today. I really need to see if I can find a few parts for that truck to get it up and running again. Weird old things are cool. So this will be a fun series.
While there is an appreciation for returning it to stock, I absolutely vote for modify and make it like the K1 carts!!! I am looking forward to where you take this one, it looks fun. I agree with others also, this would be fun to see a modern version produced.
Outstanding find...great video. 👍🏼👍🏼 Personally, I think it deserves a more modern theme on the paint...something to give it some SBG 'pizzazz'. Definitely upgrade the servo...heck, you might even consider replacing those plastic steering links with adjustable aluminum turnbuckles, to add a slight bit of "toe out". As for the ESC/motor, I'm in agreement with "leaving it for now"...but, when it does come time to replace, you might consider the Traxxas 3370 ESC/motor combo - a brushless combo consisting of a 380 Velineon Mini Maxx 4000kv motor, and Velineon VXL-3m ESC (which is 3S capable...just cut off the TRX LiPo connector, and replace work connector of your choice). I'm sure there are plenty of other options (the 2-in-1 ESC/motor used in the Losi Mini-B 2.0 brushless might be a 380...not sure), but I'm certain the Traxxas option should work.
Man that brings back memories! When these were new, my local hobby shop had a very small indoor carpet track and we had a small class of these racing around. Man they drive horribly on carpet lol, but they made for a lot of laughs on race night.
Fantastic Sunday surprise video Matt !!! Super cool kart !!! Not that you don’t have a lot on your plate already… BUT… would be really cool if you 3D scanned the driver and printed your own especially if you used your new helmet on it… I don’t even kno if that is actually possible but you inspire creativity… so I’m returning it 😂
Purple Power is a strong degreaser, great for cleaning rc plastics. Do not use on anodized parts because it will remove the anodization from aluminum parts.
I have always enjoyed the “wired” stuff,,..probably why I like your channel, I to have been getting into restoring old models. I found an old Tamiya Frog at a yard sale, put all updated electronic components in it with a 3s lipo and it was really ripping until it was ripped apart,,..the old plastic gears didn’t hold up very well."
Love the new series. Lifehack: I use maxima SC1 on all my RC stuff, it's usually for motorcycles but it works great on RC stuff, brings old plastic back perfectly
Those are cool, I haven't seen one in a long time. I have the Koyosho 1/5th scale Birel R31 Nitro Racing cart that looks similar except it's mitro-powered. I purchased it in 2009. I removed the GZ .15 and put a Nova Rossi .12 and an HPI 2 speed. It rips. I love these one-of-a-kind RCs.
The driver is definitely a petite 1/8. Really matches the old Wraith interior and the RC4WD Timberwolf frame for size. Yeah, I bought one from the shop I worked at for the figure in the day.
We used to call them Shifter Karts and are an absolute blast to drive as most were powered by 2 stroke dirt bike engines. I owned a few in my early 20's and definitely miss them.
This is a great idea. I think going over them a bit in stock form. Then modernize them tastefully as you do. You have good instincts, everything you make looks awesome.
Pretty rad it uses the chassis as the suspension just like a real cart. I bet with Mo Powah baby you'll want to start playing with weight ballasts to help with handling. I have a wall of karting trophies from my younger years. I would be curious as to how much real world tricks and tips would translate over
Love these kinds of videos, keep 'em coming! I remember these, didn't really catch on but they were a lot of fun, and the driver added something we hadn't really seen before. Beginning of the scale craze? 😉
That actually looks good! I recently restored a Kyosho MK1 rc motorcycle. It is on a running condition now and I am in the process of upgrading it. All in my channel.
Good morning Matt, awesome video. The only problem I honestly see is that this kart is probably going to be faster than you are in your class. LoL. Still an awesome kart. Can't wait to see it finished and seeing the running video.
WEIRD RC!!!! Yes I Love the odd balls of the Rc world!!!! 😁 you absolutely have to find a redcat S-tryk-r trike Rc!!!! I’ve been looking for one for years!!! Definitely a hard to find oddity!!!🤙🏼👍🏼
Very Cool 💯 I was lucky enough to get to see a Nitro kart R/C I was a good size 8th or 10th scale, and I want to say Kyosho made it, but it was identical to a real kart....it was very cool 👍👍
Really like the idea of show in general. On of the things for future episodes can be model built by instruction from old tech magazine. Still waiting for more drift videos)
I've got a Tokyo Marui AK47 that I bought in 05 that still works mint after thousands of rounds through it but also still runs on it's originally Sanyo 8.4v 2000mAh Ni-MH. If the electrickery is good quality and you look after it, there's not many reasons it shouldn't work. I wonder if I've still got the Tandy/Radio Shack yellow pickup the was my 1st RC?.🤔
I feel like I've seen these done up in Nascar Livery. I've seen Both a Dale Earnhardt black 3 and Jeff Gordon rainbow warrior 24 color scheme on a rc cart
You did a fantastic (🤭see what I did there) job of cleaning that lil guy up.if yer current gig doesn't work out, you could always open an rc detail shop 🤘😁🤘y'all have a badass day🤘 p.s. that purple power method seems like a good idea, thank you turksandjerps for being smart 🤘😁🤘
Man I remember tunder tiger they a an etruggy I wanted so bad back in the day, I think they were sold on the hobbyking website!!!!!!! Have fun with that thing man!!!!
I remember the 1996 Hasbro Air Devil. Yes its toy grade but it was unique in that the transmitter had a button to make it more of less bunny hop. I went through 2 of them as a kid though because the jump mechanism broke easily.
Update the electronics, hardware, and drivetrain where you can. Keep the classic/vintage looks. Maybe scan and 3D print a new driver to keep the original intact?
So cool I love goat car RC cars I just did a dell Earnhardt Junior Tico restaurant MOD with brushless motor straight up nostalgia with Tom men’s as the driver😂
Does this purple power liquid work on lexan bodies as well and where can I pick that up from Like the mini kart I remember seeing those in the hobbie shop back then
Ooh, a new series! Will this be featuring vehicles that are only weird and rare or just, weird? because I can think of plenty of common RCs that are super weird in either their design or just their existence. Like the Clodbuster. Also as another commenter said, please 3D scan the driver! a 3D printed driver is way way better than no driver!
I bought one of these new off Aliexpress I'm pretty sure it's a clone of some sorts from China but it's well built. It was pretty cheap like 50 bucks and only had the servo for electronics. It's fun to run around though.
After seeing the part where u take it apart I think it is an actual tiger king just with no box or electronics. I put a spektrum firma SPMXSEM0501 in it being a 2 in 1 it frees up some space and the thing rips I even got 2 spur gears for it. Also got some WLtoys turnbuckles that fit perfect so the toe can be adjusted.
That's cool. This is going to he a fun series eh. I feel it needs new electronics. Give it the modern stuff. I feel it's at the age that's ok. If it was 80s or 90s. Different story. Very cool Looking forward to this series.
If it was in pristine condition, I would say keep the electronics as-is. Where it clearly has seen better days, I wouldn't see any reason not to throw in more modern electronics.
I'm guessing that was a carpet track car which is why there aren't a lot of scuffs underneath. Very cool find! Can't wait to see it rip! You are gonna run it right?
Wow, I’m surprised that you’re not familiar with that model I thought you’d been into this hobby for more than 20 years Kyosho makes a nitro version. It’s very collectible. In fact they’ve made several. There’s also a 1/5 scale go kart by a company called. Oskart
I have 3 of these. One failed but I have 2 in working condition that were hardly used. Battery cover comes off upon impact or flip over. If interested? Let me know. 👍
Since it has pivot balls on the upper arms, isn't it basically leaf sprung with the lowers and the lexan pieces 🤔 I wouldn't bother with modernizing, it's already brushless and let's be honest it's not gonna get driven much
Yes, keep the vintage and/or unusual RC content coming. I vote that you keep it looking stock but update what is necessary to make it drivable (e.g. a better steering servo)
my initial thought on the driver was to 3d scan him and make a mold to duplicate it since he looks pretty fragile.
Good idea!
I say Resto-mod. Vintage on the outside and a modern beast under the skin!
Excellent video! Love the old weird stuff! We spec raced those when they came out. They were a riot! Almost cartoonish on the carpet. The rear toe links were the weak point.
Awesome!
That is awesome. Someone needs to make a new version of this. It would be a blast to race these on the oval.
I absolutely approve of weird RC's. The Dancing Rider deserves are reintroduction for the people in the back!
Oh those were FUN back in the day on indoor carpet! Those and Xray M18 1/18th scale (Who'd have thought) touring cars! Man I miss those days...
I loved my M18… was a huge step forward from the micro RS4s I had.
Yeah it’s a shame the 1/18th scale touringcars class “died” 😞 Like the (very) short lived 1/12th touringcars…
@RingLeaderElon M18 was just the best. True surface to surface missile.
Since I got into RC in the last couple of years, I'm trying to learn the history of it. I truly enjoy these obscure RC things that have been done over the years. This is fantastic and I can't wait for more.
More to come! Thanks for watching!

Cool to see old stuff!!!
A cheap Surpass Hobby could to the job in that nice RC
Outstanding find...great video. 👍🏼👍🏼

Wow! That's awesome!
Great new format Matt! The chassis reminds me of the UK based kamtec banger cars. Fun simple small scale race cars.
Fantastic Sunday surprise video Matt !!! Super cool kart !!! Smart thinking! A few people mentioned that, and I completely forgot I had the gear to do that!
Yep keep it as vintage or original as possible, it would look amazing. Nice find.
Purple Power is a strong degreaser, great for cleaning rc plastics. Do not use on anodized parts because it will remove the anodization from aluminum parts.

It's not wired it has a wireless remote control
Love the new series. Lifehack: I use maxima SC1 on all my RC stuff, it's usually for motorcycles but it works great on RC stuff, brings old plastic back perfectly
Thanks for the tip!

Man that would be fun to have a bunch of them racing! definitely would like to see more of these refurbish/vintage videos.
More to come!
The driver is definitely a petite 1/8. Really matches the old Wraith interior and the RC4WD Timberwolf frame for size. Yeah, I bought one from the shop I worked at for the figure in the day.
Reminds me a bit of a Turnigy Kart I have, 1/4 scale, carbon chassis and damn near impossible to find parts for nowadays
Such a cool little rig. Down to help with the Livery effort. Would love to do you a solid on that.
We used to call them Shifter Karts and are an absolute blast to drive as most were powered by 2 stroke dirt bike engines. I owned a few in my early 20's and definitely miss them.
Very cool!
Cool little go-cart! Looking forward to seeing it completed and in action!
Haha.. that's a flashback, I used to have 10 of those little brushless suckers.. they were so much fun to do crash and pass races
This is a great idea. I think going over them a bit in stock form. Then modernize them tastefully as you do. You have good instincts, everything you make looks awesome.
Thanks so much!
Great video as always! I say 8s would work great with that suspension!
I used to have a radio shack RC go-cart on nihm batteries. The driver would lean and turn the steering wheel. Man, that brings back memories.
Very cool! Love the nostalgia of these weird old RCs!
awesome machine would love to see losi release a 1/5th version of this
Yet another good one! I would want to leave it visually vintage with updated electronics.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeessss!! The 4K looks great Matt, thank you so much!!
Glad you like it!
Pretty rad it uses the chassis as the suspension just like a real cart. I bet with Mo Powah baby you'll want to start playing with weight ballasts to help with handling. I might need some real world tricks and tips for my own driving!
Love these kinds of videos, keep 'em coming! I remember these, didn't really catch on but they were a lot of fun, and the driver added something we hadn't really seen before. Beginning of the scale craze? 😉
Glad you enjoyed it! More to come!
I hope this series stays around ! This is awesome 👍 you should find a tamiya TLT-1 next!
Another vote to 3d scan the driver! Then add your head onto the scan and print 👌
That’s awesome! I think keeping it stock until something dies is the way to go.
Awesome little rig, hadn't seen one before,as always great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice! Such fun project to enhance 👌 more content like this please 🙏 can’t wait to see the final result 😍
More to come!
That is cool. Maybe a scanning of the driver is in order and a tpu exoprint?
Good idea!
That actually looks good! I recently restored a Kyosho MK1 rc motorcycle. It is on a running condition now and I am in the process of upgrading it. All in my channel.
Very cool!
Those wheels and tires are awesome. Patina red.
Love old RC’s and fixing them up. Great videos!
What a out the gas one i cant remember who made it but it would be cool to see them side by side on a track
Glad to see that car go to a good home, and excited to see the finished result. There's lot more vintage rc in the shop, if you need more content. Lol
I'm sure I'll be hitting you up for more! Thanks for watching!
Oh super cool. This is a great video type in your quiver. Keep those coming periodically. -- And specifically this was a great find.
Thanks! Will do!
It is very cool! I like all the vintage stuff.
Good morning Matt, awesome video. The only problem I honestly see is that this kart is probably going to be faster than you are in your class. LoL. Still an awesome kart. Can't wait to see it finished and seeing the running video.
😂 I'm not that slow!
That cart is so cool I would say keep it retro possibly do a speed racer theme I dunno 😂
WEIRD RC!!!! Yes I Love the odd balls of the Rc world!!!! 😁 you absolutely have to find a redcat S-tryk-r trike Rc!!!! I’ve been looking for one for years!!! Definitely a hard to find oddity!!!🤙🏼👍🏼
I’m on the lookout!
Dude! That thing is amazing! Nice clean up!
Thanks!
You can use #ILLZ brand primer over sharpie ink bleeds to arrest the bleed through.
Thunder tiger used to make very cool lookig rc motorbikes in nitro and brushless and some full blown rc race bikes with carbon fiber frames etc
We used to run those on rubberized tennis courts and they were a blast.
Cool!
The ez-run 18T motor in my losi mini-t IS that small. 2030 sized brushless.
Cool twist on the video genre SBG. Like button energized.
Thanks!
Very Cool 💯 I was lucky enough to get to see a Nitro kart R/C I was a good size 8th or 10th scale, and I want to say Kyosho made it, but it was identical to a real kart....it was very cool 👍👍
Awesome!
Stock is for children! This is the Scale BUILDERS Guild! Lol, time to go crazy!
We also need to get you an ultrasonic parts cleaner.
I have one!
Really like the idea of show in general. On of the things for future episodes can be model built by instruction from old tech magazine. Still waiting for more drift videos)
Haven't been out to the drift track for a little bit... need to get out there!
I've got that old ThunderTiger nitro Ducati street bike. Been wanting to convert that bike to Electric lol
Cool!
I had a couple of these but 1/10 scale chain drive nitro back 25yrs ago, We raced them on dirt oval,
Thats a super cool project!
Thank you!
Amazing 🥸
You had me at Weird
😂
Definitely a K1 Speed Matt clone! Probably running on AA batteries to keep the speed scale accurate!
I feel like I've seen these done up in Nascar Livery. I've seen Both a Dale Earnhardt black 3 and Jeff Gordon rainbow warrior 24 color scheme on a rc cart
I have a Dale Earnhardt version that looks very similar. My is more toy grade but I bet it could be converted to that.
You did a fantastic (🤭see what I did there) job of cleaning that lil guy up.if yer current gig doesn't work out, you could always open an rc detail shop 🤘😁🤘y'all have a badass day🤘
p.s. that purple power method seems like a good idea, thank you turksandjerps for being smart 🤘😁🤘
He's a very smart guy! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more 🤘
Man I remember tunder tiger they a an etruggy I wanted so bad back in the day, I think they were sold on the hobbyking website!!!!!!! Have fun with that thing man!!!!
Will do! Thanks for watching!
Great vid Matt! You should def sign with Ferrari next year if Bono doesn't 😉
😂
I remember the 1996 Hasbro Air Devil. Yes its toy grade but it was unique in that the transmitter had a button to make it more of less bunny hop. I went through 2 of them as a kid though because the jump mechanism broke easily.
Very cool!
Keep it stock and build an upscaled version using the Pro moto driver 🤘🏼🔥
Update the electronics, hardware, and drivetrain where you can. Keep the classic/vintage looks. Maybe scan and 3D print a new driver to keep the original intact?
So cool I love goat car RC cars I just did a dell Earnhardt Junior Tico restaurant MOD with brushless motor straight up nostalgia with Tom men’s as the driver😂
Very cool!
about 3 weeks ago I picked up the tame edge dale Earnhardt, trying to find time to make a video on it.
Very cool!
@@scalebuildersguild I really want to find the HPI e savage quad , for a decent price
You need to ask Phil @TomleyRC where he got his RC floor mop from? Plus driver looks like the rare Pastel Power Ranger! 😂👍
Hahaha! Totally!
The 380 motor is sweet that means you can buy a 1/18 mamba micro x for it and watch it scream down the road.
Does this purple power liquid work on lexan bodies as well and where can I pick that up from
Like the mini kart I remember seeing those in the hobbie shop back then
Not sure about Lexan paint, but it certainly works on ABS. Purple Power can be purchased at any hardware store.
@scalebuildersguild ok I will try it on lexan and see what the results are Thanks Matt !
Ooh, a new series! I feel it's at the age that's ok.
If it was 80s or 90s.

Very cool
Looking forward to this series.
Stay tuned!
@@scalebuildersguild you know I will hahaha
Time for a relaunch in Mario Kart characters!
If it was in pristine condition, I would say keep the electronics as-is. Where it clearly has seen better days, I wouldn't see any reason not to throw in more modern electronics.
Those are posted on EBay anywhere from $700-$1000. That is perfect condition though. Yikes!!!
I'm guessing that was a carpet track car which is why there aren't a lot of scuffs underneath. Very cool find! Can't wait to see it rip! You are gonna run it right?
Oh, I'll run it all right! Stay tuned!
I'd like to see back to original!
Wow, I’m surprised that you’re not familiar with that model I thought you’d been into this hobby for more than 20 years Kyosho makes a nitro version. It’s very collectible. In fact they’ve made several. There’s also a 1/5 scale go kart by a company called. Oskart
You should scan the driver and then 3D print a new guy with a Matt head!
Good idea!
Should put your figure in it, and some drift tires on it as well , and go drifting with it.
I have 3 of these. One failed but I have 2 in working condition that were hardly used. Battery cover comes off upon impact or flip over. If interested? Let me know. 👍
I'll let you know! Thanks!
That was badass!!!!
Since it has pivot balls on the upper arms, isn't it basically leaf sprung with the lowers and the lexan pieces 🤔
I wouldn't bother with modernizing, it's already brushless and let's be honest it's not gonna get driven much
Not driven much? Ye of little faith! 😉
You should make extra parts on your bamboo printer and then drive it and save the original parts Incase you crash 💥 it.
You should scan the driver and make a 3d print file for the world 🌎 👍
I approve of this message 👍
Now that’s an oldie but not old lol…
Dang 2008 is vintage now
Pedal popper next
