from my experience of living on a Springer - although some 30 odd years past - one of the best things I had - was mini tyres as fenders - especially when moored for a while - they might not look the best - but eliminate the feeling of bouncing off the bank when other boats pass by - which one can get with the slim fenders - I guess they could be painted Manchester Red! As others have mentioned - a gang plank is pretty essential - and a good way of securing it to the bank - which I learn't the hard way!
James - having grown up with old boats, most of which had been painted many times, I prefer the worn look, as opposed to the ultra smooth of a new boat, with, let's face it, little 'character'. The effect you are getting from hand painting and rubbing back looks really good, as opposed to just 'as found'. The wine/beer lockers look good too, maybe get hold of some of those < Silicone Foldable Wine Rack Beer Can Holders > to stop the bottles moving when you are 'in transit'?
I agree the glitter can wait but he’s trying to make the boat watertight, the holes in the outside of the rail with the cover on was still let water in, just Observation.
Hi James, before you’re done with the deck I would put some LED lights up under the deck to make it easier to work on the motor and maintain it without having to hold a flashlight, and for night cruises, it would light the deck up. Just saying LOL she is looking ship shape!
I know you're getting your solar rigged up soon, but have you given any thought to engine/alternator charging? Those Lister SR engines have the alternator belts running from the cam shaft which only runs at half the speed of the crank shaft and so alternator output will be absolutely minimal. You can fit a larger pulley to increase the alternator revs thereby increasing the charging output. Definitely worth investigating mate 👍
Funny you should mention that - I was chatting to someone at the chandlery about that very thing. I need a new alternator but need the most power from as possible which may mean new belts
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt definitely will make a huge difference, get the largest pulley possible with the clearance allowed. The pulley slides on the shaft and is fixed in place with grub screws. An easy addition, but the downside is that you will probably have to remount your alternator further forward so it will line up. That coupled with a decent alternator will work very nicely.
@@LKHNET paul thinks we need to move the position of the alternator anyways as it’s slightly out of line or it’s been hit - thanks - really good advice

Seeing that you are making a finishing list - what about a fitting in the middle of the roof for a centre line? It seems that many solo boaters make use of the centre line when mooring up or traversing locks.
I asked about it a while ago .... because of the roof insulation, James can't get a fitting welded onto the roof. He solution is to rig something using the roof rails
I think some people use go-cart tyres (free from some go-carting centres) ... but can be a pain if you get birds nesting in them ... Protected and you are not allowed to disturb the nest, so no moving to top up water etc Tyres can also be useful if rigged up to keep your boat away from the bank that has an underwater shelf etc
The Centre line could be an eye bolt through the roof with a locknut and large washer to spread the load or screwed directly into a threaded newly drilled hole. Something to think about for another day after arriving in London.
Have you stuck a thermometer in the beer fridge yet? be interesting to see what the temp is now its water cooled. Really practical use of space though given its always short of space on a boat. And get those daddy-long-legs to start lending a hand if theyre going to stay.
Hi James, not that I wish to add anything to your list but have you thought about a tunnel light for the 2 very long tunnels on your journey to Berkhamsted? Dawn and Dale on Bunnies Warren
Hi James. I like the idea of wine/beer cellars, but just wonder how cold the canal can become when it freezes and the potential for the contents to freeze excessively and crack the bottles with the expanding ice. Any thoughts?
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Another way bilge pumps fail is if the boat batteries are empty (or are stolen) .... giving free rein to my paranoia now :-)
Wondering about those little screw holes and bolts--were they originally something to do with a pram cover or some other cover for the deck area d'you think?
If you have the fuel cock below that deck, how the h**l are you going to shut off the fuel in an emergency? This is so badly thought out and probably not BSS compliant!
Looking great James! We want lights in our wine cellar also
Love seeing her back on the water and your fun elements, a real party boat!!! Thanks and take care. Excited for the next update.
Thanks Christine as always - she feels great on the water again. I’ll be trying to update pretty much daily now as I work towards departure
A man of many talents ... it looks great 👍.. glad to see you have second lists too 😀

Good idea.. I had side fenders and also small tyres.. I drilled holes in the bottom of the tyres also.
Yes I prefer the idea of thin tyres - I’m on the look out. Will defo paint. Gang plank is on the list

Agreed - but there were holes there which needed sorting
Bathroom and batteries are next

Please don't encourage James to play with more LEDs :-) A head torch is a more portable solution.
There will be plenty of LEDs down there - don’t worry !!
Here's my white board list of things to do. Preceded to do things not on the list. 👏 👍 I could gaze at them illuminated glory holes all day. 🃏

Very nice James Looking good and taking shape 👌
Any reason for using that miniature paint brush ? Soooo painful to watch :-)
Also, have you finally connected your kitchen sink to its skin fitting?
Ran out of larger ones. Replenished stocks again. Nope !!
Don't forget fire extinguishers, fire blanket, pole and gangplank

Can’t do it now mate as it’ll melt my ceiling. I’ll use a quad strap on the uprights in the centre of the boat

Morning James. How does it feel now your back in the pond 🤔 Love the under floor beer fridge 🤣 Safe drive in the Dagenham dustbin 😀 Cheers Stevie 😎
Great to be back ON the water mate !!

That's always been an option for the can't be welded excuses. Too much hassle and effort. 😴

Tyres try a tyre recycling place or a garden tractor repair place that might have some they've just swapped for new and are ready for recycling.

Have you considered a wind generator for those not so sunny days? Possibly vertical!
They apparently make an almighty noise when generating power ???

Before departure I will
@@Nbwarriorlifeonthecut he got it in the water and no water problems 🥳 or am i missing something? Did you see something I didn't? Amazing job James 🥰👀
I cant believe, you started the video literally right outside my front door (Swan St) , & I didn't see you
Hi have you sorted a new boat safety certificate yet as you have replaced your gas and electric as your insurance may be invalid
Yep BSC has been updated by the surveyor
Hello. You'd do better to weld those small holes. It'd take seconds, plus some grinding down (dressing the weld). You really should learn to weld.
😂
It would be good to learn how to weld but that body filler will hopefully work ok so non walking areas like that
Hi James, Do you need a walking plank and a push off pole?
I reminded him of the plank last episode and he still forgot to put it on the white board. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Can’t help feeling that list is being made in the hope that some mug will buy things!
Yep gang plank is now on the list to buy or salvage - thanks you guys

🤔
Perhaps you already have a proper horn and tunnel lights?
I think he fitted tunnel lights ages ago. A hand held air horn will probably do
Yep tunnel lights are on and for the moment as PinkLittleElephant says - I’ll be using a handheld air horn

Get going with the bathroom, for the ease of the kids.
He’d rather mess about putting illuminated holes in the floor and calling them wine cellars 🤣🤣
Why don’t you get up on your hind legs and go up there to help rather than whine about his scheduling.

Oh yes don't forget to put a life ring on your list
Oh yeah - good call
