You’re quite welcome! I know plenty of authors who intentionally stay with KDP Select, I just don’t agree with them defaulting to auto-renew.
I write in various genres, but all short reads so far, mostly, including two children's books. I thought I would experiment a little and try KDP Select but it was not worth it. I was hoping I could get more reviews, but there have not been that many. I have deselected the program and most of my books will be done with KDP Select early next month, and then I will go wide with D2D. I really want to be in libraries, specifically Hoopla, and am willing to wait for the lengthy amount of time it takes to get on there. Thanks for the video!

Yes, absolutely! That email list is the only way to really connect “directly” with your customers.

I wouldn’t say it’s imperative but it truly is the only way to make them your customers. You can then use that list to promote your other books as well.
I realized a while ago that the select program was not all that worth it for me. Now I put my new releases into the program for the first 90 days only to try to gain visibility and reviews. The last two I did really helped and I achieved the number 1 new release tag for both books. I went wide with my Lion book and I still can't figure out why it's not showing up in the Axis 360 library which is what my library uses. I tried to ask Smashwords and their answer was not helpful at all.
What are your thoughts on all the children's book authors I've been seeing who team up for their promotion days? These authors already have hundreds of reviews and keep their books in the select program all the time. I'm wondering if it will somehow trigger the big A to put a stop to it somehow or punish the authors who collaborated together and remove reviews. What are your thoughts?
If they’re reviewing each others books, yes that will be caught and acted upon “appropriately.” If they’re doing email swaps, where they promote each other’s book to their audience, that’s completely fine and well within Amazon’s guidelines.
