Creating and Setting up your Amazon KDP account correctly is important as it could affect whether you can set up an account and could have financial implications if not set up correctly. In this video we take a look at the three main areas that you need to consider when creating a KDP account: Whether to operate as an individual or business, options for bank accounts in different countries and the tax information. Amazon KDP scammed me out of nearly $4000 dollars. They never provided the media promotion that I spent thousands on because Amazon did not accept my book and they knew Amazon did not accept my book. They weren't done they tried to scam me for $1100. to get a copyright that only costs $125. It was all scam.

Hey Paul, I've been following you for a year now - thanks so much for your advice! Truly, it's been sound advice to get started the correct way with this business model.
Question - When you first started you CREATED your KDP account as an individual and NOT as a company.
1. Can you explain to us how difficult it was to CHANGE your KDP account from an individual to a company account?
2. Is changing an account even possible?
3. Does KDP require you to create a NEW account as a company?
4. If number 3 is true, did you have to republish your current books with the new account? after closing out the old individual status account?

I just ran into the same issue. I have had an Amazon customer account for several years. Having watched Paul's advice on setting-up an account, (much appreciated, Paul), I thought it best to create a new account for my small business as I am about to attempt to publish my first book, however, Amazon rejected my attempt to set-up a second account. I got onto the chat system and was told that I would require a second mobile phone number to set-up a second account due to the OTP, one time verification protocol, or whatever the initialization stands for.

Hi! You mentioned you started as individual then switched to corporation. Is that an easy process on your individual profile to make that change? Or did you have to start all over with a new account on Amazon as a corporation?

Hey Mate, I heard that Canva doesn't allow us to use their free elements anymore likewise using their any of their tools for printing and selling them to Amazon KDP or any others platform is something they restricted recently which can be occur in Copyright issue. Is this true or not plzz confirm it!! My Amazon KDP journey is an absolute nightmare. After researching and designing a couple of journals and notary books I was able to upload them onto Amazon over a week ago. Now, Amazon has decided to terminate my account claiming I was trying to manipulate their system. I don't understand how I did this and am very frustrated. Good luck to everyone else who does KDP.
Do you have multiple accounts or shared a bank account with another person on kdp?
Did you use a brand name or a keyword in your account not a pen name (human name)?
Did you use any graphics or pictures copyrighted by others? Even if you have a license it's not enough they ask you to own it aka create it from scratch kinda thing.
Did you use fonts that are not for commercial use?
Did you publish something using templates that are very familiar on kdp like Canva? It might think you stole it
But don't give up kdp is not the only publishing platform.. keep going, use other online publishers
@@TipsInTenshow can you find out if the font or images your are allowed? If your using combinations of images from canva in your illustrations, is that allowed?
Quick question. I live in the UK, are the figures the same for companies in terms of US taxes witheld?
I think you can use your NI number in the UK for tax registration.
Hi, Paul, I do hope you see this. I started a while ago with an individual account, but didn't do much. Now I want to get into this full speed ahead and create a brand. How can I change my account to a corporation, which I already have established? And what's the best way to upload the coloring books? All at once or little by little? I keep seeing people having their accounts removed for manipulation... what's the best way to go about this?

Hello Paul, am from Nigeria and I have an Amazon kdp account which I open about four weeks ago, I have published books, two of my books made it to live and about 11books was stuck on review, but today I received a mail that says my account has been blocked, I only doing low content books, they also said I can't open another account, pls is there anything you can help me with?

One question, do you create different KDP stores for each niche that you sell in, or do you start with one catch all store?
I have. few pen names. One pen name has different types of books. Another mainly hsa sports related log books. I would start with different books under one name. Unless your aim is to say create a specific puzzle book or coloring book brand.

No, in the UK its your UTR number - unique tax reference number. Usually found on your tax return.

Hey Paul, thank you for this valuable video because it is the very first and the most important topic to cover. I have one question with which I am a bit confused. Can we connect multiple currency bank account details for different regions? Like for example USD for USA, Canadian Dollar for Canada, British Pound for UK, like that? (for people outside USA, UK etc). Will there be any issues with doing that OR it is fine?
No, you can only connect one currency account. Amazon converts the currencies from the different jurisdictions before depositing into your account.

Hey man, love your videos!! I am thinking about starting to make colouring books for kids on the dutch amazon(17 milion people in my country). Because the dutch amazon only opened 3 years ago the competition is relatively small, however sales would be smaller too. Do you think this is a good choice?

Does it mean that Amazon withholds taxes that I owe to IRS and all the royalties I receive into my bank account are free from taxes so I don't have to pay the taxes (i.e. send money via wire transfer, or check etc.) to IRS by myself? All I need to do is just file a tax return next year for the year when I received those royalties, right? That makes things a lot easier for me.
It will depend on your individual tax situation. That is something you would really need to ask an accountant.

I don't know the rules in South Africa but I wouldn't have thought so as Amazon is doing all the trading and you are just receiving royalties.

Yes, that would be fine. They are two different accounts. It is only two KDP accounts that you can't have.

I looked up my Australian bank (one of the majors), and BIC code, and the bank website listed the code. If the website of your bank doesn't mention it, maybe call and ask.

I have a question. I am confused about pen name and the DBA name, which is optional. If I put something in the DBA spot, does that mean I have chosen to be listed as a corporation and not individual? I was thinking of transfering my account to a company in the US or the EU. Got my Amazon Ads suspended a month ago, who knows if that's going to happen to KDP as well.
It's worth thinking about. Did they give a reason for your Amazon Ads suspension?
@@paulmarles not really. however I've found several other publishers who has this problem - all of us from Russia or Belarus, so it's got to be because of the war and the sanctions. Interestingly I'm not hearing anything from the Russian Amazon FBA community which is more numerous than KDP, so maybe it's not a carpet policy. I am trying to work it out with ads support - wrote to Jeff Bezos and got a member of leadership staff appointed to my case - but it still takes time. Trying to change my status with my Turkish residence at the moment. If it fails transfering to a company would be the next option.

Yes, you can. If you don't add tax information then Amazon will just withold the tax. Something like 30%.
