The best experience for the game is when you don't have expectations at all for it i played because the music was good and it is really good But took me 2 years got it on the switch played it then was faced with the turn based combat and dropped it till I accepted this combat after hsr and hoo boy its good
I've never played Honkai and the turn based combat wasn't too much of an unknown obstacle for me, moreso just how complex it can and how it throws a lot of tutorials at you at once. It's a lot to remember but super rewarding once you get it down!
Bro this resonates so hard, I took about 3-4 years to finish P5 also. It took me 135 hours for my first playthrough, and I didn't even get to the 3rd DLC semester.
@@Brianycus curious. Why did you choose "cinema" as a description of persona 5? Great game. Stylish AF. But cinema is an interesting choice of phrasing.
Can't wait to announce in 20 years time that I finally finished Persona 5 Royal That being said, this is easily one of my favourite games now, definitely recommend 😆
@@stephanie-olly for me its the load screens into an establishing shot into a transition into a load screen into a cutscene into a load screen into an establishing shot. That I struggle with. I was a huge fan of smt 3 and 4 and p3. P5 wouldn't stick for me and I just played p4 for the first time it took me under 3 weeks. If you only played p5 4 is a bit more chill has a little more early momentum. SmtVV isn't for me either though so it's prob just me. Don't forget to add metaphor to the backlog lol
Im glad im not the only one with this experience. Put at least 300 hours in P5 between base game and Royal with several restarts and platform changes. About to beat Royal for the first time finally clocking in close to 150 hours.
nah such a normal thing cuz like I bought P4G back in 2017, still have not finished it :) context given I haven't picked it up since 2018's hectic transition to university and losing the save file around the same time. I also took time with my earliest pokemon game, coming back a year or two after, because I finally had enough brain cells as a 10 year old to know how elemental advantages worked.
I love how you subtly discovered time travel and chose to play totk at the birth of Rome came back and dropped this comment never to reveal your discovery to science.
lmao im on 7 years myself, i probably would have to restart my playthrough, glad to see this is a widespread phenomenon. Maybe i can just power through my original playthrough though
I started persona 5 during 2021 and am still working on it. I pick it up every few months and play for a week or two or so. I’m about to start Akechi’s dungeon. It may take me 10 years to finish it at this rate lol
P5R certainly has its stellar moments, enjoyed the game alot myself. Certainly in my top 3 JRPG combat systems, though I wished the game played a little more with them. Persona 4 should definitely be right up your alley (if you get over the rougher dungeon designs)
Yeah I'm excited to properly dive into it! Currently playing Persona 4 Golden on my Switch on and off but I haven't entered Yukiko's dungeon yet. I also grew up playing the Mystery Dungeon games so the randomized dungeons shouldn't take too much of adjusting for me!
After beating Persona 5 do you have any interest in playing Shin Megami Tensei? SMT V just got an enhanced port like P5, and the first Digital Devil Saga game just turned 20.
I'd like to try someday but it would be at the back of my big backlog so it'd certainly be in the far future. I have heard that the smt games are much harder and less beginner friendly though compared to Persona
@Ashamedofmypast SMT V was a bit plain, which was sad since it's the first mainline title in almost a decade after SMT 4 and the first home console game since Digital Devil Saga 2.
I find this a really interesting phenomenon. I also struggled with Persona 5 (and Dark Souls) initially but after many years I finally ended up finishing them and "got it", and now I've played all other Persona games (and soulslikes) with much more ease and they became some of my favorite games. But part of me wonders if they're actually good games if apparently so many people struggle with them? From what I've seen it also seems that the people who do end up finishing it after an initial struggle period had some sort of perspective change. Are they really worthy of recommendation then? I just think that's really interesting to think about...
Yeah that is an interesting thinking point, but I think if some media requires some adjusting, I don't see that as a negative, just more niche. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but if you are willing to give it that extra time beyond surface level it can be super rewarding!
@@Ruben_BE_ I mean art isn't necessarily bad if it's obtuse or esoteric particular when that is a goal of the creator. And these are examples of games with oodles of depth that take several hours for all their core mechanics to be tutorialised and internalised. So it sounds more like an attention issue on your end than a design failure. And by no means is that an insult I'm a big proponent of no introduction cinematic or early game taking more than 30s of control away from players. I got bored of nearly all the trails games because of their pacing and going from cutscenes to dialogue to establishing shot to cutscene to dialogue. So I have the same issue.
@@Ashamedofmypast I wouldn't call it an issue though, I'd just say the game failed to grab our attention. Whether the game could've done a better job at that or not is up for debate.
@@Ruben_BE_ ya but you placed the burden on the game entirely right? In doing so you imply a failure of the game or issue in its on ramp design. But the game succeeded to grab many others and by design and really by necessity they have to dole out systems in paced increments as to not overwhelm. So a slow burn and mystery is as effective as anyone could hope tbh. Have you played any other person? How did their introductions grab you? Or soulsbournes . Because that would yield interesting insight into the phenomenon. In my experience the jrpg genre as a whole struggles due to a requisite time investment.

I've started P3 Reload now
