Pffff... would never be able to figure all this out without this video. "Jumping the pins"? oh wow..., Calibrate the gimbals?...oh, double wow!! I hope Hubsan is compensating you for all you do for their products! Thanks so very much for your expert insights and then sharing!!
Thanks so much for doing this video Chris. So many people were confused and afraid of doing this update to the controller. But using tin foil is a much more reasonable work around than bending the pins together. And walking us through the entire process was so helpful.
Reflecting back on this comment while thinking about peoples reaction to it on your show or while your on theirs are so far apart from this comment. Funny how the Hubsan supplied jumper has even failed and this one still holds up every time.
Thank you so much ! I've never owned a Hubsan. I would've never figured this out without your help. Just did all the updates.
Thanks Chris, your such a help to us new guys. Always learning from you. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Great Job.
Daniel Thanks 😎
Strangely peaceful and relaxing... must be the leisure suit 👍 Direct , to the point and very instructional. Very interested to see exactly what it changes. Maybe it's just not worth doing? Can't wait. Great Job, again !
tip.... wrap one end of earbud (cue tip) with tinfoil, make the tip pointed. hold or gently jam in position over or under the first two pins
Thanks for the video. I just updated my Zino FC after watching this and it went smooth thanks to your instructions.
You are a great value to us Chris. I did finally order mine from the Hubsan store, with the discount and have tracking stating a Tuesday delivery from a US warehouse...
Hopefully the updates will all be done as I have heard, but I'll know who to turn to if this is not so.
Much appreciated...
Dennis Knipfer Do all your calibrations out of the box before you fly 👍
@@QCGUY Oh, I absolutely will and according to your instruction...
Thank you very much for the vid, I've just ordered my Zino and can't wait for it to be delivered, hope it comes with the latest updates so I don't have to do this for a while :)
MadDunne666 ..hi very interested to know if your Zion and controller came with the current software or shipped with legacy versions...could you please let me know.
@@villaman4818 Hi, my came with all the latest updates apart from the one for the gimbal for some reason.
Very fudging easy with foil...thank you sooo much for that hint!!! I had no probs with the upgrade then re-calibration.
Chris, do you have to update everything or can you just update the FC? I ask because my Black Zino has a newer Gimbal Version than what came in the 9/30/2019 release and i am already on the good camera version and the controller is already on the same version as the 9/30 release. I am contemplating updating since it does seem the FC does improve the hover.
BassMan Strikes Yes you can but if there is any connection issues following then update the gimbal and camera to the same versions you currently have.
Hubsan says update all and some others do as well but I don’t. I only had one not connect afterwards and installed the others as mentioned above and all was fine.
@@QCGUY I did the update but only the gimbal and FC just left FPV at 0.3.6. No issues.
Hey. Thank you so much for your educational videos. My transmitter has only a small button and no pins! How can I update my transmitter?
You do not need to update this style because there is no update for it at this time. When you do you have to press and hold that button the whole time during the update.
QC GUY OK. Thanks for your reply. I'm constantly learning something new😊👍. You must have an amazing weekend. many greetings from another stormy weekend in Denmark. 💨
How would you know there is an update for this version with the button, i mean is it a different model number? How would you make the distinction between the 2 versions?
Kain Ali
You can only take my word and Hubsan’s word for it.
When the Zino first came out there was a series of pins you had to jump in order to update. There was only one update during this time and then later came the button followed by nothing there at all. But in all there was only one update for the controller and nothing after they added the button.
you could use a jumper block to connect the pins, i used one of a old usb flashing board i have but if you haven't got one then its a case of needs must
Hi Chris, couple of quick questions. Firstly, since getting my drone I haven't installed any of the updated on the camera, drone or controller. If I want to install any of these now is there a specific order to do so? Also, is there anywhere that details what these updates are for? For example if they relate to specific fixes? Thanks for the upload!
I will post what they provided here at the end of my comment but there is no order to the updates and you don't have to install everything at once no matter what Hubsan says. I did the controller and flew the quad on 1.0.46 then updated to 1.0.48 but have not tested yet. After that I plan to do the gimbal and test then do the camera and test.
This is from Hubsan....

Upgrading notice :
Please keep in mind that all the firmwares should be upgraded at the one time ,please do not upgrade them partially
Tips for upgrading the firmware of the camera :
1. Please prepare a blank SD card and format it to FAT 32 before you start the camera firmware upgrading
2. And format it again after upgrading before you start the recording function
3. Do not power off the drone during the firmware updates
Tips for upgrading the controller :
1. Please watch the upgrading tutorial video carefully before you start the upgrading and prepare a tweeter or similar tool
2. Please keep in mind that the two pins pointed out in the tutorial video for the controller should be connected to each other ,otherwise the upgrading can not be done
3. And please release them later after you
4. After watch the video and still don’t know how to process the upgrading ,we have prepared the upgrading instruction in docs(included in the firmware file package) for your easy reference
Please ensure that the APP version has been up to date as well
@@QCGUY Thanks Chris, I think over the next week I'm going to give the updates a try one at a time and see if I can get this drone usable for summer! I look forward to seeing your feedback on how it performs with latest update!
@@QCGUY hi thanks for this information .I've been looking for this information since getting the zino 2days ago . Thanks again 😊
Chris, I'm new to all this. the label on my transmitter shows HTO16 - no 'B' listed. There aren't any pins that I see to jump in that middle slot. I have 8 pins within a slot on the right, that's it. I updated the quad fine - what am I missing? Thanks
You have a newer controller and there is nothing to update so your good.
Sir am a little confused on this method i just got my new controller and about to update i also noticed that my zino came with the jumper on a little bag just wondering why you dont mention that or is that not a good option? It came with the zino
TheViewChaser It doesn’t matter if you use the jumper they provide or my method. Both work just fine and this video was done before hubsan started providing the jumper cable.
It’s just making a connection so both will do that job.
my Zino with Y heading on the serial number ,The controller pin were replace with push switch that need to be push all the time to able PC connection, The original Gimbals came with software version G.V3.0.2.5 unfortunately sending message, gimbals angel too high, on and off randomly, I flash it with firmware GV3.0.2.2 ,that's the only one I could find on Hubsan's site, its ok now , Thanks for your video
I realize before that the gimbals didn't do self check upon switching on , surprisingly gimbals can be control ,cheers
How do you connect beacause i cant find the way
I upgraded with the most recent Gimbal 3.0.2.2 and FC 1.2.04, and my controller has the button (no pins - my understanding the latest software then). But, per your advice did not upgrade the camera and left it at 3.6. In your opinion, am I good to fly?
George Zavatsky
Permission to take off granted! 👍
Correct with the button you are current and there’s no need to update that controller.
Everything else is current now that you updated but use caution as the FC is pretty new still.
@@QCGUY Tysm. Yep she flies well, love this first drone. Thanks for all your great advice and praying for healing and great doctors for your mom.
George Zavatsky Thank you 😊
@@QCGUY You're so welcome! Cancer has effected several in my immediate family as well. By the way quick question. Is it possible to record in the X hubsan app? If not, what screen recorder do you use? I'm trying my first takeoff and landing from my moving sailboat and just in case something happens to the drone I want to be able to record remotely to at least save some footage even if not in 4k. Thank you so much for your time and advice!
George Zavatsky Assuming you have a Apple then you need to use the app screen recorder.
It’s my preferred overall.
Good tutorial man, and well explained too. Curious about the results, as the rest of us are . Good flying Chris.✌
Thanks! I will have all testing done by Monday. I want to test fully and carefully myself and will add some video of anything I feel is needed to share.
Hello
in this place you show, I have only a microswitch, maybe instead of pins they installed a reset button?
I have Hubsana Zino since 20/02/2020
photos.app.goo.gl/dvnepBAjULDECw277
This is a button you would hold in the whole time during a update. They added this after the pins and then later removed it. There are no new updates for you because the only update was done before this button came into the picture.
Hi Chris, I have just braved the transmitter update today. All went well as per your video until I turned it on. I now don't get constant blue LED's on the transmitter, they constantly flash in sequence like when you first turn it on. I can't get my android phone to connect to transmitter basically. I thought maybe the lead was the issue so I've tried the other lead (type C) on my second phone and get the same results. Any ideas what the issue may be? Is there a roll back version of the firmware? I've repeated the installation of firmware many times now just to make sure I hadn't made a mistake. Any help gratefully recieved!
Steve Knight Sounds like you didn’t install it successfully even if it told you you did.
Follow the recap of this other video exactly as I do it and you should be good. I hope 🤞

Brilliant video thank you very much I will look to do this to my Zion when it arrives... wish me luck
Simon Begnor You won’t need luck most likely. It should come updated and the only thing you need to look for is what camera version it has. Look at my video for camera version 0.3.8 👎👎👎👎
Thank you....your help is greatly appreciated....Hello from Blighty !
Just received my new Hubsan Zino May 2 2019 (ordered it when you were still wearing your Hubsan T shirts LoL)
Just to let you know that it now come with a jumper with the tools.

hello QC again - you made again a very good video. There is a problem with new version ZINO now - there is no pins any more but a black push button in that place and the company (Hubsan) has no guide how to do an update to this RC even how to connect with pc. Any help QC?
Yanis I will be making a video soon about how to update this way. At this time there is no need to do any updates so don’t worry.
@@QCGUY thank you QC
@@QCGUY I have the same type with no pins and a black push button. I am glad to know that it is not urgent that I update it but also am looking forward to your video that explains this process. I think it would be the first one on RUclips that does.
Thank you QC Guy for your videos which explain well the procedures for the Zinos. I already have a ZinoPro+ and a Zino 2+ and now I'm going to pick up a used Zino 1 which is having issues linking the aircraft to the controller. I hope to find a solution to this problem thanks to your advice. If you have any idea or suggestion I take !!! greetings from France
If it doesn’t have connection and the red light on the side is flashing replace the image cable and wifi will be restored and all will be good to go. 👍🏻
@@QCGUY okay i will check the drone when arrives to see that. thanks !!!!
@@QCGUY you mean an image cable inside de drone or the USB cable to flash firmware ???
@@jpadronevids26 it’s from the camera lens to the main board so both inside and outside the drone.

Hello QC thx for the video, but i my contoller has a button, so how do i connect with that type of controller? Thx!

killbaneable Did you do exactly like I did and use the file in the folder not what is always already appearing in the file window of the tool? It’s a bit hard to tell you how to fix it without seeing what you did wrong.
Hi! I'm using a tx ht016tx instead of ht016b so there is no 5 jacks to combine as guided. Could you please help for this case?
This is for the first series of the original zino. They had one firmware update and then change from the pins to a button and then nothing there at all but no worries because they have nothing to update. If you don't have the jumper pins then there is no update for you.
@@QCGUY Thank you for clarifying me. It's still working normally without updating TX :)
Perhaps it requires a USB Data cable rather than just a charge cable. Easy way to tell is to hook up a smart phone to the PC and see what happens. You may have to go into Developer Options (for Android. Look it up on youtube) and set USB mote to File Transfer Mode.
Rob C We all have a bunch of these cables laying around so it’s bound to happen.
Glad it did because I know this happens often and stumps some.
None of us as a majority are marking our cables I’m thinking but yes that was the issue I’m sure. 👍
@@QCGUY Well the fact that the USB sound played on/off means that a connection was being made but probably just a charging connection which the updater app wasn't looking for.
I only buy Data USB cables now since things are getting more complex with USB and a Data cable will always charge if thats all you need at the time.
Rob C Thanks
I don’t buy them because everything I buy comes with one. I had one for the job is all that matters to me. 👍
Wait... what am I not understanding? Why would a company make a controller that they RECOMMEND that you bend pins... to do an update? Something here doesn't make sense. I must have missed something, along the way.
Dan Harvell Do you have these pins? It’s very rare that newer models would have these unless you got old stock. They soon did away with this process.
thank you so much for all this information, I am able to update my Zino , now
Hi could you please help me, I'm in Australia and mine doesn't look like this. In the middle where it shows the 5 pins, I have a small plug connection (no pins) and to right hand side of the controller I have an 8 pin connection, but it is difficult to get tweezers or foil in there as it's a smaller opening. Can you please confirm that this is the connection I should be using. Thanks very much. Cheers Craig.
Craig Donovan you have a switch or button not a plug. I will do a update video for that but for now do not worry about it. There is no new firmware to update your version.
@@QCGUY oh ok no problem thanks. Yeah I have only had the drone a month or so, so I assumed it was pretty up to date but thought it would be a good idea to update, since I am not getting much range out of it before it loses signal and returns home (approx 200-300m). I read on another channel to use a smaller capacity SD card (currently using 64gb) is this something you'd recommend. I have updated all other firmware as per your videos. Thanks heaps for the reply, and thanks for the informative videos. Cheers.
Craig Donovan I use 64gig U3 A2 cards.
I have used different cards and sizes not seeing any problems with range.
Perhaps check your wifi channel settings in the app.
Ok thanks will do.
I can't do it I don't know how because my pc skills are lacking, mine is staying stock - so what, what is the difference ? mine flies ?
Zino Firmware Updates
Thank you for your support. It has been really helpful, as you know I cannot get any support from Hubsan at all.
This is the firmware that I have in the Zino right now.
Zino_FC_VI.1.52 (control board)
Zino_G_V3.0.2.3 (gimbal)
Zino_IT_V0.3.6 (camera board)
Transmitter is already up to date.
This is the updated firmware on Hubsan's website
Zino_FC_VI.2.04 (control board)
Zino_G_V3.0.2.2 (gimbal)
Zino_IT_V0.3.8 (camera board)
It appears that the gimbal firmware that is in the Zino right now (Zino_G_V3.0.2.3) is newer than than the updated firmware on Hubsan's website (Zino_G_V3.0.2.2)
Should I update “all” of the firmware, or should I update only the firmware for the control board and the camera board?
Thank you.
ghettoman the issue If it’s working leave it alone. There is nothing to gain if you change and the camera firmware they have as the latest isn’t very good. Stay where you are and enjoy it 👍
What about the flight control firmware? Should I upgrade that?
ghettoman the issue same answer.....nothing worth updating to. You won’t notice anything and many have already complained and gone back to the version your on now.

So, when the time comes for an update to the transmitter...what do I do? Technology can be confusing.
Robert Littlepage Via app or micro USB port.
My HT016B transmitter has a button and no pins. It was easy to upgrade. Zino H117S.

Attempted to follow these directions but something went wrong. May have loaded the wrong file because now I can't connect to wifi and my battery indicator lights blink from left to right as though the battery is being charged. Anyone know if a factory reset can be done on the transmitter?
Ronald Cowan There is some sort of new tool about but I haven’t played with it yet. I think it fixes the stuck boot loop after failed update attempts. Not sure 🤔
Are you in my group as Ronnie?
@@QCGUY Yes, I am Ronnie. Finally got the controller update properly and realized I wasn't doing the correct steps to start it up. So now I am flying and I am impressed with this drone. Although it isn't a replacement for my Phantom 4, it does very well especially for a third of the price.
i got my Zino today and my Controller/Transmitter is totally different.I have in the middle only two buttons. And on the right 2 rows of pins.
They switched things up a few times as they figure things out. lol Good thing is you are up to date with that configuration and no need to update.
The button works as those 2 pins. So if you want to update your controller, you press it and hold it for the duration of the update. It's tricky to do with only two hands, but it's possible. You need to use some tool. Someone will probably make some 3D part which you would insert into the phone holder and it will press the button instead of you.

I have tried about 20 times but keep getting the following message: No VCOM port found!
What version do you have on your controller now and do you have the pins or the button? If you have the button you already have the latest firmware.
@@QCGUY It has the pins. I see where I need to put a jumper across the first 2 pins, from the left, when doing the update? I guess the charging cable that came with it cannot be used for doing the update?
Steve Hula I have all good quality cables so the one that comes with quads always goes straight to the trash.
It needs to be a data transfer cable not a charging cable but theirs is supposed to be a data transfer cable which also can be used to charge.
Steve Hula I think their cables are crap in other words and so many that have problems updating find this out when they switch to a better cable.
What is the purpose of the controller update?
This is everything to date with the controller...
1. Added the function to set Image Transmission
2. Added the function that enables the controller to control the drone after the WiFi disconnects
3. Added the function that enables the throttle stick to control the drone during RTH and Auto land
Thank you so much
What does it mean when my Zino transmitter starts beeping?
I have not had mine beep that I can remember. Is the battery low?
No. I had a full charge. It started beeping continuously while I was binding the drone, then the drone started up and took off. I was able to pin it to the ground until I could turn it off. A friend of mine was a good hundred feet from me. He was flying his drone, a JJRC X-11, he was attempting to keep the drone in the air, he didn't know his battery was low, and his transmitter was beeping too. Is it possible that we were on the same channel and his transmitter was flying my drone and transmitting to my transmitter that my battery was low? I went to a different spot, ran two batteries through the Zino, no problem at all. Strange for sure!!!! What do you think?
ghettoman the issue I guess that’s possible but can’t tell you without being there and seeing it.
I never have normal drone problems. It turns out that my friend did not know how to bind his JJRC X-11 to the transmitter. Apparently, when he was attempting to fly his drone, it was not responding to his transmitter. It was flying erratically. I was about 100 ft or more from him at the time. I was in the process of binding the Zino to its transmitter at the same time he was having his problems. Somehow, while I was in process of binding the Zino, my transmitter picked up his drones low battery signal and started beeping. I wasn't done binding and calibrating my compass yet, and as he kept trying to keep his drone in the air, his transmitter, some how, had connected to my Zino, which in turn unlocked the Zino and it began to take off. If I hadn't physically pinned the Zino to the ground, I would have lost it. I cut my finger on one of the Zino's propellers in the process. Needless to say, I fly alone now. I know this sound weird, but it happened. I haven't had a problem since. Welcome to my world!!
@@ghettogardens1 WOW! What are the chances right? lol

@@QCGUY i figgured it out. Its a button i have to press the whole time. How sad that their is no description from Hubsan. I thought it was broken. Bad service!
SickhamSickyMicky Yes, I know how to use it but there is no point in making a update video on it when there is no up. The important thing is what I said before. You don’t need to update if you have it.

@@QCGUY "You da' man" thanks, much appreciated
Hi, ... YES? FINALLY? It's ALL GOOD BABY...... I tested the new transmitter upgrade (the tinfoil method) the new gimbal firmware and the new FC firmware (not doing the camera firmware as the camera is working great already and my Zino won't update anyways glitch) well first the bad news things that didn't work for me, I'm using Android. 1. wifi fpv channel select, won't restart to complete switch channel. 2. takes a bit longer to find satellites. now for the good news, I was flying 10kph to 15kph constant sea breeze. 1. auto takeoff rises only a couple of feet then falls slower than before. 2. hover is now very stable great. 2. holds hover altitude perfectly even in this high wind. 3. dead zones in the control stix have been improved. 4. no loss of altitude when flying forward and left and no gaining altitude when turning right at last. 5. smooth stop the drone now slows down smoothly nice. 6. it's flying very well smooth turns not much loss of altitude at all and mostly it's easy to control and very stable (not 100% yet but getting there). 7. the gimbal is working 100% perfect it doesn't get better than that even the best ones well done Hubsan. If you had your Zino shelved like me, its time to unleash your drone. Hubsan have done a good job this time....get out and fly, I can continue to mention all the issues but the short version is the Zino is ready for its pre-release maiden flight...wtf? things are looking good for this drone future updates should put this cheap drone where it should have been...the best budget drone ever...
I did the update now the controller want connect to the drone
