Did you know that the -ed of wantED, askED and lovED are all pronounced differently in English?
It sounds difficult... Complicated! I promise it's not!
In this pronunciation lesson, I'll share three simple rules to help you pronounce past tense regular verbs correctly and sound more natural when you speak English!
Note: My video lessons are created to help English learners to improve their pronunciation and speaking skills. My instruction is intended to support their communication, not train them to a particular accent (& yes, there are many variations in English accents)! Please note that I speak with an Australian English accent.

I have my own English channel for teaching the basic grammars to my community. It is for the beginners to help them know how to start but I do not teach them how to pronounce. I prefer finding the native speakers’ video, which I enjoy accent, to share them how to speak and pronounce correctly because I want them to be better in pronunciation and communication. Thank you for your nice video. I love it.
It's just amazing. Every lessons are so simple and helpfully. I'm proud to find this channel. God give all back that you give to us. A warm hug from Bahia - Brazil
Good examples in this video.
Thank you very much, you are the most honest teacher❤ ❤emma❤
Thank you so much Emma for this brilliant explanation of voiced and unvoiced past tense pronunciation.
Arab students encounter a real difficulty with the cluster sounds. For example, it is difficult to pronounce (asked) correctly with /t/ sound. They usually pronounce it as//askid/
Moreover, they pronounce the /k/ sound in the past tense /asked/.
As a native speaker of English, you know /k/ sound is dropped in the past tense and as a result it should be pronounced as /a:st/ in British English. I would be very grateful if you could focus on such issues to help your students all over the world. Thanks again.
Rafiq, In reality, only handful native speakers pronounce the endings. They are usually elided and stress is used to hint that it's past tense. Even non-native speakers can feel that it's awkward to pronounce them in normal speech.
Thanks Emma for your efforts to update my english
Hello Emma. Great lessons! Note: Rub is one of those verbs that double their last consonant when conjugated. so rub becomes RUBBED.
You double the consonant when the vowel before the consonant is stressed. Example: prefer becomes preferred. However, offer becomes offered with one /r/ because the /e/ before the /r/ isn’t stressed in the word ‘offer’
I am your follower for almost a year and a half, I am just learning English now, your explanation is fine, with all subtitles that is better than previous videos for me, I am from PERU, thank you very much.

omg, that was very helpful thanks for that and I love mmm English.
I'm so pleased to hear that, Hussein!
Hi Emma, I really enjoy your classes.
A good way to know if the sound is voice or unvoice is put your hand in your throat and pronounce the simple past word. If you fell the vibration on the last part of the word it means the sound is voice and therefore the pronounce of ed is /d/ otherwise the sound is unvoice, so the pronunce is /t/.
Thanks for spending your time with us.
*yes of course I'm subscribed to your amazing channel. I like Emma*

This is exactly me....
SHADOWKILLER
Completely right!!! 👍🏻
Yes. All of you are right. Listen native speakers are much more difficult than listen Emma. I am very disappointed with this frustration. Emma is a very good teacher.
Thiny 、 she speaks slowly and clearly. Native speakers use slang, linking words, pronunciation and talk fast.
ya somos dos

Hello, ema how are you?
I'm from Myanmar of Muslims, so your every lessons is very useful for me, because I have to seen your any lessons👌👌👌👍👍👍👍
I suppose there is a mistake in the video. 6:08 We double the last consonant if a verb ends in a vowel plus consonant. So rub + ed becomes rubbed. I,m not a native so I can be wrong :-)
You are not wrong!! I just noticed that error too :(
It should be rubBED
It's meant to be a pronunciation lesson any way not a spelling one☺☺☺☺☺
Ittizan Qurt yeah that's right
BOG !!!! Its cool that you realised that mistake 😃!
Someone why do u think so ???
I love your pronunciation and the way you talk, and your video is very helpful

Hello Emma, I'm an ESL teacher from Quebec Canada. I'm a subscriber to your channel. I love what you do. For this particular video, I wish you had shown a list of the voiced consonant sounds at the end of the words instead of at the beginning as this is where their focus should be. I also saw that you wrote "rubed" as the past of rub. (6m07s). Keep up the good work.
I love the way you Teach sounds/phonetics ! great ! awesome!
