So to the people who are confused about Alec throwing another Alec into the sea, I'll tell you what I think happened.
Gabriel a lonely man wanted to throw away his grief and sadness,in the video it is portrayed by Alec throwing the other Alec (who is supposedly his grief and sadness) away into the sea. However,that grief and sadness always came back and never left him. And that's how I see the story.

As a 26 year old pastor I get this 100%. Pastors can easily get caught in this draining cycle of helping everyone with their problems while hiding their own. We are responsible for seeking the help we offer others.
Well, God works in mysterious ways, maybe these lyrics came to Alec to get to you. Even though your name is not Gabriel, the archangel Gabriel is also called the messenger of God. So when you as a priest need help, God lets you know that he sees you! That you are not alone. That you can talk to him.

i think the "gabriel" he was talking about is him, the dead body
At the first verse it was all about how gabriel was responsible but was married young then he became a priest, where he comforted everyone.
Then he realized (chorus) that he had no one to talk to, and he had no one since no one will probably listen to him?
Again, he sets out on a journey to the sea (2nd verse?) Where he released all his feelings out to set him free of those.
On the last part, "gabriel" returned home and sat down to eat the "fish" but the plate was empty, and the fish was said to be dead because of all the toxic waste of the people
Remember that "gabriel" our friend was the one who kept all those "toxic waste"
But there was the last part where it was said that "is gabriel responsible"
But likewise in the video, alec dragged a dead body, which is himself
I conclude that the dead body is "gabriel"
Why? Because gabriel couldn't handle the responsibility of handling all the toxic waste of the people.
Gabriel couldn't find anyone else to handle his waste either, so he set out to release his waste, and when he did the people had no one to release the waste so it ended up in the sea, killing all the fish there is in the sea
Remember that "gabriel" was married young, indicating that maybe he is not responsible at all times and cannot be trusted with heavy responsibilities when he can't handle them
Meanwhile in the video, alec throws his dead self in the lake or sea or ocean idc whereas maybe the dead body was "gabriel" because he couldn't handle the responsibility and killed himself wherein he is replaced by a new gabriel.
Yeet these is just my ideas, if there are any plot holes, please point them out or if you have another idea pls post them

I'm reading people's interpretations and I decided to join in because I hate all of them.
I think the line "the one everybody has to talk to" is really poignant because no one actually chooses to confide in Gabriel because of Gabriel. They talk to him because he's a priest, because of the obligation to go to confession. Gabriel is forced into the priest archetype for every one else's benefit. He's further stifled by his marriage--he was pressured into marrying young due to the nature of Christian society and experiences a resulting disconnect from his wife. He feels unheard and unrecognized because he's just seen as The Priest.
So he decides to kill Gabriel. Clearly, he's unappreciated and unwanted, so he destroys every part of him that doesn't fit his role as a priest or a husband. But our minds aren't built to alter themselves like that, so his personality and feelings of inferiority return, damaged, but alive.
And the line "but is Gabriel responsible?" means a lot to me as well. Is he responsible for his attempt to effectively kill himself? Is he responsible for everyone else's sins? Is he responsible for whether or not god forgives them? Is he responsible for making them feel heard? Fuck, even the perspective of the question is open to interpretation. Is he asking himself that, and if so, is it the priest part of him or the actual Gabriel? Is the narrator? Is it someone else entirely? I think that the question carries a different weight depending on who you perceive as asking the question.

For people confused by the storyline, it is based off of a Bible story. Gabriel was an “archangel” (there is some debate on that.) He delivered visions and information for the future to everyone. The lord sent him around on different tasks alone “Gabriel had no one that he could talk to” Before he was sent to destroy Jerusalem he cured people of their sins “cured people of their transgression... carried their toxic waste.” Eventually Gabriel snapped as he was virtually alone, carrying all of this weight on his shoulders... He is often depicted as an evil man in todays society. But we can perceive him in an innocent light as well. He is remembered for telling Mary that her baby will be called “the son of the most high.”

Here my theory on this song:
I believe Gabriel is what you would call a therapist friend almost but is buried deep within the problems the friends and people around him have. In the first few lyrics, *"Gabriel the oldest son he praised the Lord and married young became a priest at that confession cured the people of transgression Gabriel he held the weight of everybody's toxic waste and with the load upon his shoulder couldn't sleep as he got older"* I believe this shows he is burdened with the fact all the problems are piled on him. *"Oh oh oh what it means to be someone that everybody has to talk to everybody has to talk to oh oh oh Our Gabriel, he had no one that he could talk to Gabriel, he had no one that he could talk to..*

Depression, anxiety, etc. But, anxiety and stress is a perfect represention of what it felt for Gabriel. The problems become to real and it's become apart of his daily life. Which then these problems becomes his so he tries to get rid of them away. In doing so get shoves his problem (Alec in a bag) and kinda buries him beneath to get some sort of relief off. This was shown in the video. In the end, he calmly starts eating again but a knock is heard for the door. He gets up and opens it to see his and others own problems have came back, because one can not simply push problems aside and say "I'm okay" No, it's better to talk to someone but Gabriel didn't have this in a worry to put his own problems on someone else.

My name is Gabriel, and this story resonates within me. All my child, I went through hell. Emotionally and physically abused by the toxic people who were the closest to me "Carried everyone's waste upon his shoulder" . When I turned 18 and graduated, I immediately moved to Wilmington NC, the beach"Gabriel ran to the beach", in hopes of leaving my past behind and creating a new version of myself. But when I moved, the older version who still carried all of my pain still knocked at my door.

I like you because you are mixing modern music with clasical music, the use of violet was amazing, you don't do the bass drop loud chorus that makes your head explode from pain, this is gentle and I love it, keep the good work!

I love this but it's really about suicide. "he had no one to talk to" and the bag he throws into the river represents himself. So at the ending it is Gabriel but he is dead. It's a great song, but the story of Gabriel is about suicide and how lonely he was so that was the last resort.
Exactly. This is exactly what I got out of it.
Personally I think the "all his sins had killed the fish" line is metaphorical. His "sins" could include bad things he did in his life but also him committing suicide, and "the fish" are the family and friends affected by his actions. The last question at the end is doing exactly that, questioning whether it's Gabriel's sole fault for committing suicide or whether there were other contributing factors.
JMO.
This is one of my most favorite songs of Alec's for this reason. It is beautiful and, at least to my interpretation of the lyrics, incredibly relatable for me.

i mean obviously - it's alec. you know, the biggest blessing, most talented, most handsome, human being in the world, who deserves everything he dreams of.
Gabriel is my dad. My dad is the voice of reason, the person you can come to when you feel sad, sick, angry or just didn't have a good day.
A few years ago I though I was Gabriel because all my friends came to me to talk about their problems but they never asked about mine. At that time I took talking to my father about this for granted, because that's what family is, right ? Over time, I've learned to looked at things differently and this is when I realised that while being there for everyone my father never got asked how he truly feels and what is bothering him.
Sometimes we need to take a step back to truly see the things and people we should be greatfull for
