Jamie is one of the very few RUclipsrs that does everything he says he will, no fake hp number claims, no lies, no messing about, guy gets everything done and backs up anything he claims, been watching the channel for years now, road to a Mili subs getting closer, deserves every bit of success he gets 🙏💨 can’t wait to see the teg finished, honestly the best car on RUclips 🔥
How you're not at a million subscribers yet blows my mind! Your videos are ALWAYS a great watch, I don't think I've ever skipped through even one of them! Keep up the good work!
As a mechanic Jamie, the carnage in that cylinder makes me wanna cry! As said though, fair does to Wiseco for the quality of the pistons and considering the rods are pushing almost 200 brake over what they are rated for, damn!!! New year, new motor, cannot wait... 👍
I’m not one for commenting on videos much but Jamie’s content is simply mind blowing. I’ve watched every single video and the content just keeps getting better and better. Keep up the amazing work. Have a great Xmas and I’ll look forward to seeing the future plans for the Teg and the rest of your projects. In my mind anyway the best modified car content on RUclips in the UK now period.
Sorry to hear this, Jamie. One thing you can be thankful for is that it didn't fail due to incompetent stubborn mechanics. I spent a fortune on turbo'ing my 350Z. Fully uprated bottom end, the lot, only to have a mechanic (reputable one) void the whole lot because they didn't change any gaskets despite me supplying them with a full, uprated set. That's a real bitter pill to swallow. I was just about to buy a boost controller to wind it up from the 430hp it had with the stock waste gate and max the HP of the turbos (700hp) but it kept overheating no matter what the garage tried. Not once did they think "Let's check the head gasket just in case". I was so looking forward to drive my Z with that much HP. I'd still have it now if it wasn't for them. Instead I sold it for a fraction of the money I put into it. I know modified cars never make all the money back, but, I could have gotten a lot more than I sold it for if it didn't fail. You can build your 'teg again dude. I could never build my Z again because of current finances. You can probably tell with all the details I'm waffling on about in this comment how much I loved my Z. Sorry for long comment.
The twin turbo kit came with modified ECU. It was only pushing absolute rock bottom boost. It was tuned by Paul West at TDI North when it was open. It was only running 461bhp. The missing gaskets caused the whole lot to fail. R.E Performance, Bury.@@markcozzie
Valve floated at wot, then the piston smashed it which caused the valve to bend. And when the valve tried to go back up into the seat, the bent portion of the valve served as a wedge against the valve seat and leveraged it out. That would be guess. At least your oil filter didn’t fail off😒..
Sadly, hit the nail on the head with my failure guess in the last vid… only good thing about these failures is the learning opportunity they present. Onto bigger and better things my man!
How am i only just seeing this now! Hearing someone say comfortable and 1200 in the same sentence, especially from a 2l 4cyl, is just ridiculous. Love ur stuff man.
Much respect jamie for taking the L’s with the masses and not in some dingy corner and only showing the your W’s It’s life when God takes from one hand best believe the is replacement right around the corner my G.
Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the engine was switched off and stripped after the initial jammed WOT event. Wonder if it could have been saved relatively easily. But understand and respect the send(off), look forward to the next iteration!
Those pistons look brand new on the skirts! Sign of a properly clearanced engine. Machinist got mine wrong they don't look like yours 😂 Rebuild time again so I know how you feel.
Really enjoy the videos of the tech side of things, Jamie seems to have a good balance between techy and limiter bashing videos! Cannot fault the channel 👌
J this was always part of the plan, push it to its limits as you guys all have done with great success 🙌 Come back bigger n better next time bro, n smash your records👌
hard run scoob engines often fail the same way ,,valve seat recesses or moves at high revs and displaces causing that kind of damage ,,similar fault in my origional engine blew a 10mm hole through the left hand head,,,if your doing that many high rev runs you should start treating the engine like the track car it is and life components for changing before failure ,,most scoob race cars will have 2 or 3 engines in rotation ,,that way they only need a bearing and gasket refresh for the first couple of rebuilds before the next major refresh
mad to see, luckily didn't blow a hole in the block and still have all pistons in one piece. something was bound to go pushing past its limit. i seen another youtuber have a similar disaster happen with his LS and when he stripped it, there was only 7 pistons. excited to see the new build on the tegi when its done
If, the valve seat fell out first which can be common if the porting around the seat area has been done more then it should be making the actual seat thinner. They will fall out, which is why on the 1200 build larger seats should be fitted on the exhaust side at a minimum.. ferrera inconel valves, over the supertech quality. The standard rocker system will always be the downfall at this power and the valve train physically wouldn't cope with on the limiter. Harsh limiters will also enduce more valve float at high rpm and launch And again at this power vtec really isnt needed and going mechanical will always give better reliability. A uk company like piper will be able to grind the 1st non vtec lobes off and just the high lift lobe using the ferrera single lobe rocker kit.. again dependent on cam spec to rocker ratio the base circle of the cams may work. Which can be altered anyway.. Wiseco are a very good off the shelf brand for k20. Your engine builder there should have stated that the ring lands usually would compress and fail when an engine isnt running correctly. To much ignition which causes heat. As the engine is reversing explosion. (Unwanted sound waves) Soon after causing detonation which will melt above ring land. Closest to the squish/valve pocket first... at full load cracked pistons are useless causing by bad mapping of again ignition or richness or general component failure of a bad designed piston not coping with the power/pressure cycles looking forward too seeing more power!!!!
Sheeet that cylinder was peppered 😂 bad luck there really more than any engine failure with the peddle getting stuck. The journey with this car is class you’ll be super hype next test run for sure
Just a thought although it's pretty difficult to do now, I'd have thought that maybe it would have been worth checking the torque on the head studs when you saw an increase in coolant pressure. I know a stud and nut is meant to be more secure than a bolt but with the cylinder pressures that would have been seeing, it would have been worth a go. Even though the head gasket is damaged now, would that not give an indication to a leak path from head lift to a coolant gallery as well? I wouldn't say the coolant pressure is a symptom of this failure though, I'd have thought the sustained revs would have caused that. Just thinking aloud, for what it's worth. Good luck with the rebuild!
Can I suggest that you auction that smashed piston off for charity? I’m sure some of us subs would be happy to have a little trophy knowing that all proceeds are going to a good cause close to your heart. I’d certainly put in a bid.
That is such an odd failure. Never thought it would be anything like that and personally never seen a failure like it! Onwards and upwards Jamie! Certainly made some interesting content that’s for sure! I guess when internals are being pushed to see how far they can go, eventually they find their limitations! Really interesting video and excited to see what the next step is!
Happend something similar to a friend of mine, valve collet got loose and the valve dropped down so the piston pushed the stem in to the head. But he was only a little over idle rpm
People rate the Honda K20 engines. Im unsure why though. At high mileage the chain pulleys wear down making the chain jump a few teeth. Then obviously timing is well out.
I'd say a it's a spring issue, one of the valves has floated and interfered when it was stuck redlining, one of the valves bent then snapped then it's been smashed around the cylinder by the piston and done all that damage I don't understand how and why the throttle would ever get stuck open, there's always failsafes whether electrical or mechanical
2 years of happy abuse. Ill be honest im more of a VAG guy but iv followed your teg from the start and I love it by far my fav of all ur builds. Im excited for the tegs next chapter. ❤ big love brother

On slicks, that setup will easily run 8's on the new engine. All about the launch tho. What clutch setup are you using? I am running Tilton's Honda Drag setup, which is a twin disc carbon/carbon setup with hydraulic release bearing. Its great, but its still a tough clutch for low 0-60's as Im still using an H-Pattern manual. Most are using slipper's now in the drag scene.
Do you have a cable throttle body? Because with drive by wire you can set up stuck throttle protection. I have it on my turbo e46 330i with DBW throttle body.
@@officially_gassedSuggestion to prevent it happening next time. Have a brake pedal switch input into DBW failsafe strategy to override pedal position sensor values after set time (ie. 1-2s), when pressing brake pedal. Your throttle pedal has 2 TPS sensors which will track open (100% TPS) and closing (0% TPS) voltage values, and enables failsafe strategy If they differ too much. It just doesn't take into account mechanically jammed throttle pedal, so the brake pedal switch failsafe to cut DBW blade angle into Idle range needs to be incorporated on such case.
