A little over two million 1899 Double Eagles were minted in the San Francisco Mint; and today it is known as the five most common dates to survive today; but what makes this coin such a valuable asset is that it is one of 254 to survive in this condition.
Shown on the Obverse of the 1899 Double Eagle is the Liberty Head designed by 4th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint: James Barton Longacre. Lady Liberty is depicted in the Greco-Roman style, facing left with her hair pulled back, with the Liberty inscribed cornet sitting atop her head. On the Reverse, a heraldic eagle is shown holding a double ribbon, and clutching an olive branch and bundle of arrows in its talons. The coin is graded by PCGS as a Mint State 64, which is characterized by having few marks or hairlines, and have an average or above strike.
