Let me tell you the grocery games they play. My wife doesn't eat bread so when I need bread they have a 1/2 loaf that was 2.29 on sale for 1.99. The other day I go in and the sale ended but instead of the bread going back to 2.29 as you would think, the new price was 2.49 which you might as well call it a 10% hike. They do that with everything. I just put it back in disgust and walked away.

It’s 3-6 months of EXPENSES, not 6 months of salary. And it’s for emergencies, like if you have some catastrophic life event - major health issue or loss of job then you can afford to live for a few months without going into debt until you can get back on your feet.

It is not only working people, but people on fixed incomes (like ourselves) that have noticed HUGE increases in food prices that significantly affect all areas of living. Guy's mention of a $59 steak is certainly true, being prohibitive for us as retirees, and people with children as well, to buy just about any kind of beef--even plain hamburger. In our lifetimes we have never seen the gigantic price jumps that have taken place in the last 3 years--a loaf of white bread is almost $5, a dozen eggs is over $3, and generally almost any item in the store is $3 or more. Soft drinks are $5 -$8 a six pack and chips are $5 and $6 a pack. So Guy is correct in saying that our economy and historical outlook is going in the crapper and we need to do something about it before it is too late.
