    This is real gold mining. Slow and a lot of hard work and all the little nitty gritty mundane details that tv networks believe is unnecessary for TV. But absolutely necessary for viewers. This is the way.

    love to see a jack leg drill running.stemming is essential in blasting. you are losing at least 50% of the shot. I would use polyfoam(used in fusion bombs to direct energy) and depending on depth use multiple loads and some play dough at the end. when I load a stick I use my powder pliers to make a angular hole for the cap then punch the hole for the cap. Old miner taught me this that way you don't pull on the cap. If you are interested in production I will give you a design to remove ore and waste with 2 people.I have a 90 ton jaw if you know anyone interested. former MSHA instructor(for the mines) also if you need any equipment let me know got a huge yard full. Stay safe , love the mill wake tools I have the large shank 18V for popping boulders also had the full set but like everything else stolen. keep it up it really is getting to be a lost art. if you ever get in clay seeing a square set mine ( like Virginia city) would be cool. I really miss mining(run over on the. job)All the best.

    Jason, next firing, put some sheet metal or thick plywood down on the floor and that will make it easier to muck. You will be able to use a shovel to get under the muck and load it.

    Top video champ! getting better breakage at the bottom of the hole: Several thing that you can try, first up, instead of having the first plug in the hole as your primer, make the second plug the primer. The first plug gets slit and tamped so that it completely files the hole. e.g. if you are using 38mm (1.5 inch) holes and 32mm plugs (32mm), when you slit and tamp it the new explosive diameter of the first plug is now 38mm (nearly 50% bigger cross sectional area) and now has 100% coupling to the wall of the hole and hence much better shock energy transfer. Another option if you don't mind spending - instead of using a plug of gelly for the primer, use a 110g or even a 150g PETN/TNT cast booster - these will smash anything!! All that said, as soon as one hole in the sequence fails to fully break out, any successive hole then has a greater burden to shift and as such is more likely to eject or not break out as good as planned. Good luck guys! Are you stemming the holes or loading to the collars??? 20 diameters of stemming would be good.

    I know in coal many places use a product called "STEMLOCK GAS BAG" or "BLASTBAG EVO". It's a plastic self-inflating bag that is placed in the hole. However as coal is much softer of a material it may not be appropriate here. There is also MTi Group BlastBag, which is a shock reactive gel bag thats inserted into the hole. It contains a material that hardens and seals the borehole. FOAMPLUG is a product that uses a self-expanding small foam plug (hence the name) that goes in after your charge. "Clay Dummies" are a stick of clay made to fit the hole and will pack in with a bit of force. And then finally you can buy the cheapest option, Stemming Bags or Tamping Bags. These come in plastic or craft paper tubes, you just fill them with material into a kind of gravel sausage and then just pack them into the hole (of course the dryer the material the easier it is to pack down a funnel into a tube). So your tailings from your jigs are great material to use.

    Thanks for taking us along for the ride! I don't understand why all the steel track you ripped out would not have been better than your wooden rail system. Average "ore cart' holds near 1000lbs including the heavy steel cart.

    • @Porty1119
      @Porty1119 5 месяцев назад

      I don't understand that decision either. As I see it there's two options for the main haulage level: either proper steel rails with an end-dump or swivel-dump car, or a 1/2-yard LHD and appropriate ventilation fan. 5-10HP should be more than adequate.

    For filling in that sand(stemming?) take a pipe that will fit in the hold along side the det cord, round the end nicely so it won't cut the cord, then make a plunger like a caulk gun that will fit inside the bar. then you can fill the bar with sand, press it into the hole, push in the plunger and remove the bar while keeping pressure on the plunger and the sand should all stay and be tight packed.
