Hey like a few years ago we had an earthquake that actually made the springs shut down for a couple of days.. also the hotsprings isn't a part of the city of Tofino, it is part of the Ahousat first Nation, it was also once managed by by the village across from the springs it's self called heshquit, which I'm lucky to have grown up a bit in each community of Ahousat, Heshquit, and Tofino 👌🏽
I used to commercial fish many years ago and have been to the hot springs many times before it was a huge tourist attraction. The boardwalk had hundreds of boat names carved into each plank. There was no hotel, no change room, and no crowds. I often had the place to myself. Above the waterfall, there used to be an old cast iron tub with the claw feet with water piped into it. Sure wish I owned a camera back then. Thanks for the trip down memory lane 😊
Back about 1970 my wife and I flew into Hot Springs Cove and we're dropped off for the day. We spent the all day there ALONE. It was fantastic. The trail was very rough and there were no changing rooms or any other accommodations. A few years later when we bought our own float plane, we visited the Hot Springs at least once a year. There were never more than 10 people there in those days. No one wore swim suits and it was very relaxing. It is located at the end of a peninsula and if you sat in the end pool you had a view of the open ocean. It is now overrun with people. I miss those wonderful days.
I 100% agree. And that $157 was in CAD! So better for me. $126 USD. Woo Hoo. We booked this tour, but it got cancelled due to rough seas, so we had to go on the bear tour. TOTALLY COOL TOO. But next, time - HOT SPRINGS! Your vids are #Awesome

The village has strong ties to the indigenous culture of living with, and off, the land and sea, and of course ever present - MARINE LIFE. They are lovely people, but I suspect that you walked in with a spoiled princess attitude expecting to be treated like you're at the Peninsula in NYC. If you can't handle the reality of being in nature, then stay where there is none.

Last time I was in BC, we stayed at Harrison Hot Springs Resort, which was incredible. The surrounding mountains are stunning. Tofino looks like absolute Pacific paradise. Thanks for the tip!

Yes. It’s totally worth it! It’s a trip you’ll never forget! When I went (spring break 1998), we got lucky and had the place totally for just the two of us. I wish I’d thought to skip the swimsuit and just go au natural ;)
Had the most amazing experience doing this with my husband. It’s SO worth it as the trip itself was unreal. The hot spring is like a tiny fraction of the most amazing day.
I was there in 1971 when it was still private property, opened by the Clark family. There was no walkway there then. I remember being there with some Native friends and it was one of those rare moments when it was snowing. We swam out with the swells from the lower pools and returned with the the rising swells.
All this time living in B.C. and I did not know about hot springs on the West Coast of Vancouver Island?! I thought they were all inland ... Harrison Hot Springs - eastward to the Rockies! I’m certainly learning more about this province than ever!
Back in the late 80s we camped there for a few nights. There was a boat that would take you out from Tofino. It wasn't too expensive back then. The vibe was very chill and at night people would light candles in the rock walls and just relax in the hot springs. No bathing suits, just au naturel.
My wife and I visited hotsprings cove on a whale watching tour over 25 years ago during our honeymoon😊 At the time we found it hillarious because we were surrpunded by naked Germans. We were the only ones wearing swimming suits😂. It is a beautiful spot with a wonderful board walked walk through ancient old growth rain forest. I highly reccomend it.

They look wonderful! Ucluelet and Tofino are the best storm-watching sites in North America. It was a nasty day, so I did not go to the hot springs the last time I was there, and did not even know they existed before that. Sitti g in the Wickannish Inn with a warm fireplace and a.picture window view of the surf in a storm is incredible! Tofino re I do me of a smal,small, hippie town - sort of a Santa Cruz, CA vibe, but smaller. ,ong Beach is great, too. Sincerely BC isxknown for their rainforest and wet weather, no trip to BC should skip this. I also love the Gulf Islands - Salt Spring/Galliano, etc on the Sunshine Strait. I am glad you verified the springs were great, as the whale watching and wholexPacific Coast are a treat to begin with!
If you ever go there stay at the lodge. It helps the indigenous community there and my grandma works there. I don’t know if it’s open to tourists right now but if you find out let me know. The lodge is across the bay and it’s held up by big logs
Hi great video I had the honor to work for the summer as the Park Coordinator at Hot Springs Cove. Back I 2007. Lived in the little cottage to the right as you come off the dock. I kept park clean, collected the admission ect. We had a cougar around that summer saw it twice. Got lots of footage of my time there. Definitely at top 5 BEST EVER Experiences in my Life. We flew in to Hesquiat village South of Nootka Island by Seaplane from Gold River and hiked down to Hotsprings cove with my hiking group. From there we hired a First Nations fisherman to take us across the cove to the hot springs. Bought a salmon at the same time from the fisherman and cooked it by the beach. It is a beautiful place
Given the scenery and the local benefits from the visitors, making the effort to get there is well worth the effort. Check out the Ainsworth Hot Springs near Kaslo. This is the only hot spring that incorporates an old mining tunnel into the works.
Never heard of Tofino hot springs but thanks for sharing your experience. After being on the cold water on the boat I'm sure the hot water of the springs felt good to warm up. Glad you included the lobster hanging on to the seaweed and rock towards the end of the video.
You get warmed up hiking the trail to get from the dock to the hot springs. It is only 1-2 km but, felt like 10 at the time. We were almost too hot to go in the hot springs afterwards. 🤣 it was totally worth it. My partner indulged in a lobster benny before the boat ride then got sea sick. By the time she reached the hot springs, she was too sick to go in. She still thought it was worth it! It’s stunning!
I went with some buddies in December of 2013. We were late and missed the boat. So I suggested we go by seaplane, which costs quite a bit more. But boy was it worth it, we had the pilot go really fast and do some tricks lol. Took us only like 20 mins to get there, rather than the 3 hour boat ride (I think it was around that long, correct me if I’m wrong. We were the ONLY ones to arrive at the hot spring, and when we were leaving the people from the boat finally arrived and were hiking their way towards the springs. There were around 30 people coming, and they asked how the springs were. I told them good luck 😂
I was there in the late 70's with the Navy. We were on small ships and would anchor nearby. No change room, no buildings at all. There was a bathtub at the top if you wanted a hot soak. People would camp in the forest above the sulphur smell. Bathing suits were optional. The bottom pool is the best place, gets hot, hot, hot then a wave comes in a cools things down, then it gets hot...

Not expensive with a friend or family member who has a boat! You can also just hire one of the locals to drop you off in their boat without using one of the tour companies
Went there with my wife on Christmas Day a few years ago. Definitely worth it! It was just us, and another couple. That price is the same price as three trips to the pub. But you get so much more!

It’s pretty there but the tours pack so many people into that tiny little area that by the time we arrived there really wasn’t anymore room to sit in a hotspring. The walk was nice but the hotsprings were a let down as it’s was so crowded.
I took the boat there... viewed grey whales on the way... float plane back... beautiful remote place... super cool seeing the remote community there across the channel... really cool place... also hiked the north coast trail on the northern tip of the island... boat to the trail head from port hardy... strathcona provincial park is awesome too.. hike the mountains hug the massive trees...
Been there and it is becoming very crowded as the hot springs themselves are quite small. Go late or early in the day or you will be with 50 or sixty people and the natural pools hold about 15 people comfortably. Wildlife coming and going was great.
All that? For only $150 Canadian? Reasonable when you consider all that’s included + convert to other currencies: US Dollar 💵 , British Sterling £, or Euro € 💶 ...
Now it's $275 by boat and $440 by plane for a very brisk 30 minute walk in and out and maximum 2 hours at the spring. Amazing but worth it?? Did it last week.
It looks amazing!! Personally I am really glad that it isn't easy to get to. I have seen what happens to hot springs when too many people wear it down.. The vandalism can be terrible.
Your poor girlfriend looked green around the gills. Tip: I get sick on boats. Use pressure point bracelets (1 hr. before you leave) and ginger tablets (they help your stomach). What a beautiful trek through that rain forest and the hot springs looked refreshing. Loved the sea lions and whales as well.
When I took this trip there was a lovely fisherman in the group and he taught me to look at the horizon, he also made sure I didn't get too close to the side of the boat. I had the impression he had seen some things with inexperienced land lovers LOL
@@amonGustavo07 They helped me on a boat trip in Nova Scotia. I get very sea sick. I put them on an hour before and took ginger tablets. The seas were rough and many people were hanging over the side being sick. I did not get sick.
I was there in 1986 or 1987, we took the sea plane to get there we saw a whale on the way, the pilot turned around to give us a better view and stayed overnight. We had freshly caught salmon, made sashimi and a barbecue at night. It was amazing, it's so nice at high tide when the ocean water gets in the how water pools.
Went up in September 2019, it was great we saw wales+++ the guide was knowledgeable of the area and funny. Loved it!!! Worth it... even with the yarffffing!!!!
This has been on my bucket list to do for probably 40 years now since I first heard about it. Still have yet to make it. Thanks for an awesome video. And $150 isn't that bad considering what's all included. Could easily spend that per person out for dinner and drinks at the local Keg or Cactus Club on a Friday night. This seems way more better use of the funds.
Went there few months ago, it was very busy so I couldn't really enjoyed it, but by the time we packed up and about to leave, I found a hidden spot above that hot springs water fall, there's tree for cover so even is raining you won't get wet, and seem like no one notice that spot so no one will be there , if anyone is going, try and look for that spot and let me know if that is a great spot or not, is above those slippery rock and by the stairs entrance, is like a small water hot tub will trees over it.
I’m a 63 yr old with mobility issues so travel is not easy and prohibitive insurance cost but through your channel I’m thinking train travel may do it! Have you noticed other disabled people on your journeys?😊
Back in '74 we saw the migration of "Humpback" whales from Long Beach. What an awesome sight!!! Crazy that a creature that big can jump completely out of the water. I've heard of these hot springs but haven't been there yet. Great viddy!!! For what you get I don't think that 150 is a lot to pay for this unique experience. 👍
Looks awesome. Not surprised it's popular. Hot springs here in Oregon also get popular. I haven't been to this place but have seen old growth forest elsewhere on Vancouver Island (what little is left). A quibble: there is no way, physically, to "offset" the energy use. Spending money on something "eco" is good, maybe, but it doesn't undo the CO2 and other byproducts. Sailboats? Kayak?
It’s not a bad price for a whale watching,wildlife tour, hike and hot spring’s experience all in one. Something many will never see otherwise. But I miss the days we could kayak there, tent across the way on a big beach all for free.
i went to hot springs near Canel Flats; i believe they put in aa provincial park nearby now; that was 40 yrs ago; it was great drove on a dirt rd with 500 ft drop offs, was a great place would like to go back somday
Yeah, you're actually paying for a 2 hour boat tour, which includes a drop off at the hot springs. I've taken that exact same tour four times. Harrison Hotsprings is probably the most expensive springs in Canada, considering the insane prices of the hotel rooms.
@@DownieLive The only difference being that you have to stay at the hot springs hotel to access the hot springs (which is such a racket, lol). It's amazing we let a private company totally monopolize the hot springs like that.
Actually there are two options at Harrison Hot Springs. Stay in the main hotel and use their pools or use the public pool that is fed from the same source. The public pools are similar or slightly higher cost to going to a public swimming pool in the Fraser Valley.

This hot spring sucks!!!!!!! Do not go with The Torino resort and Marina!!!!! They have rude staff and the boat was nasty dirty! Stunk like fish!

No one calls it Tofino Hot springs. Just Hot Springs Cove
Visiting by kayak means much more adventure and much less expense. That's how I went to these sprigs.
Well I would say it is worth it. It’s not like your going there once a week or once a month. If your just passing through you need to give it a go.
The west coast humidity feels so good on the skin!

I did this 20 years ago. The changing room was and still is so primitive.

The sea lions are checking out those tourists, too! Lots of whales in the Salish Sea, too! Sometimes big ones like grey or humpback ones!
Been there and it is becoming very crowded as the hot springs themselves are quite small. Go late or early in the day or you will be with 50 or sixty people and the natural pools hold about 15 people comfortably. Wildlife coming and going was great.

Hubby & I live on the other side of the Island but love to go to Tofino in winter to enjoy the storms and wild weather. Highly recommend!

Now it's $275 by boat and $440 by plane for a very brisk 30 minute walk in and out and maximum 2 hours at the spring. Amazing but worth it?? Did it last week.

It looks amazing!! Personally I am really glad that it isn't easy to get to. I have seen what happens to hot springs when too many people wear it down.. The vandalism can be terrible.

Your poor girlfriend looked green around the gills. Tip: I get sick on boats. Use pressure point bracelets (1 hr. before you leave) and ginger tablets (they help your stomach). What a beautiful trek through that rain forest and the hot springs looked refreshing. Loved the sea lions and whales as well.

When I took this trip there was a lovely fisherman in the group and he taught me to look at the horizon, he also made sure I didn't get too close to the side of the boat. I had the impression he had seen some things with inexperienced land lovers LOL
@@amonGustavo07 They helped me on a boat trip in Nova Scotia. I get very sea sick. I put them on an hour before and took ginger tablets. The seas were rough and many people were hanging over the side being sick. I did not get sick.
I was there in 1986 or 1987, we took the sea plane to get there we saw a whale on the way, the pilot turned around to give us a better view and stayed overnight. We had freshly caught salmon, made sashimi and a barbecue at night. It was amazing, it's so nice at high tide when the ocean water gets in the how water pools.
Went up in September 2019, it was great we saw wales+++ the guide was knowledgeable of the area and funny. Loved it!!! Worth it... even with the yarffffing!!!!
This has been on my bucket list to do for probably 40 years now since I first heard about it. Still have yet to make it. Thanks for an awesome video. And $150 isn't that bad considering what's all included. Could easily spend that per person out for dinner and drinks at the local Keg or Cactus Club on a Friday night. This seems way more better use of the funds.

Went there few months ago, it was very busy so I couldn't really enjoyed it, but by the time we packed up and about to leave, I found a hidden spot above that hot springs water fall, there's tree for cover so even is raining you won't get wet, and seem like no one notice that spot so no one will be there , if anyone is going, try and look for that spot and let me know if that is a great spot or not, is above those slippery rock and by the stairs entrance, is like a small water hot tub will trees over it.
Did this decades ago. Sea plane ride $75.00 for two. No change room building. Stayed over night, just two of us. Plane picked us up the following day.

Back in '74 we saw the migration of "Humpback" whales from Long Beach. What an awesome sight!!! Crazy that a creature that big can jump completely out of the water. I've heard of these hot springs but haven't been there yet. Great viddy!!! For what you get I don't think that 150 is a lot to pay for this unique experience. 👍
Looks awesome. Not surprised it's popular. Hot springs here in Oregon also get popular. I haven't been to this place but have seen old growth forest elsewhere on Vancouver Island (what little is left). A quibble: there is no way, physically, to "offset" the energy use. Spending money on something "eco" is good, maybe, but it doesn't undo the CO2 and other byproducts. Sailboats? Kayak?

It’s not a bad price for a whale watching,wildlife tour, hike and hot spring’s experience all in one. Something many will never see otherwise. But I miss the days we could kayak there, tent across the way on a big beach all for free.

i went to hot springs near Canel Flats; i believe they put in aa provincial park nearby now; that was 40 yrs ago; it was great drove on a dirt rd with 500 ft drop offs, was a great place would like to go back somday

Yeah, you're actually paying for a 2 hour boat tour, which includes a drop off at the hot springs. I've taken that exact same tour four times. Harrison Hotsprings is probably the most expensive springs in Canada, considering the insane prices of the hotel rooms.
True Mike, but you could do a day trip to Harrison Hot Springs.
If we’re including the cost of hotel rooms, I’d say Tofino is much more expensive 😄

Actually there are two options at Harrison Hot Springs. Stay in the main hotel and use their pools or use the public pool that is fed from the same source. The public pools are similar or slightly higher cost to going to a public swimming pool in the Fraser Valley.
We did this as a class trip it was super fun no one else can do it was too much it was an outdoor program but we fund raise enough money to do it

Bc has so many hot springs that are free and have absolutely no tourists if you know where to look!
