Maul joins forces (temporarily) with Dooku to attempt to overthrow Sidious. Far fetched, I know but both wanted to overthrow Sidious, and it plays right into Yoda's statement that "always two there are, a master and an apprentice".
Seeing Maul return during the clone wars was amazing decision. Seeing him become a force of nature in the war os beyond astonishing and shows why he's a real sith lord. But the fact that Palpatine was speechless by his return is something to be hold.
@@bluntslt8023 He was promoted from assassin to apprentice after Sidious killed his own master. It was always Palpatines intention to have maul be his successor, until Mauls defeat in TPM. Sideous considered his "death" a great loss. So even though it happened quite fast (Mauls promotion to his defeat), because it was always the plan to have him be a rule of two sith lord he probably wasn't even as held back / restricted in his learning as much as someone like Vader would be (by Sidious, who by then had forsaken rule of 2). And he has the title darth / sith lord from officially being a Rule of Two sith apprentice
Palpatine realized that, with already having Dooku and the war at the moment, as well as Maul showing how much he's truly learned and grown, it would've been a major variable and wrench in his controlled plans that he wasn't truly ready for. He really was a rival, which says a lot
Sidious feared Maul’s return not because of his skills with a light saber or the force but because Maul was now a threat to his secret identity. Sidious wanted to keep his identity as a sith lord a secret but now there is a rogue sith out there who could spill the beans of what he was, Maul needed to go and Sidious needed to do it as soon as possible even if he had to do it himself.
Seeing Maul return is fantastic! His story was perfect. I can imagine how Palpatine was infuriated and angry when he learned Maul was alive. How shocked and supprised he was, May the Force be with you too😊
Sidious understood that Maul was now a rogue Sith after he managed to survive, and was a threat to everything Sidious was building up for himself and his future in the Sith (and he understood Maul was more powerful than he had expected)
I love these videos where we get to see Sidious actually being scared it's such a role reversal for Sidious and helps to flesh out his character just a smidge more.
Palpatine: You weren't supposed to do that Maul: What, survive? Palpatine: Yes, people don't live getting cut in half! Grievous: Hello there Palpatine: You aren't "people" Grievous: sad coughing Maul: I feel this is going age even more poorly for you
I always found it interesting that Sidious ultimately declared Maul to be a rival. Because think about it, when you're enemy is the most powerful person in the galaxy, having them call you that is a pretty high compliment, especially since it's the only time I can think of when Palaptine said that about anyone 😊
I’m a Darth Vader and Kylo Ren fan. But Darth Maul the Rogue Sith is bad ass. They did his character so good, they made a good choice bringing him back. He had the coolest double lightsaber then switched to the Red Saber/Darksaber combo and I think that’s so bad ass.
Maul has been my idol for the longest time, he didnt get enough screen time and he helped with sith advancement with tech and tactics, only to be cut short as he was, was so happy for clone wars series and the series that followed
the rebels scene where Obi wan kills maul was one of the best starwars scenes ever IMO. The compassionate way obi wan dealt with maul dying knowing he also was a victim of palpatine. Obi wan switching stances and instantly countering mauls move he used to kill qui gon. it was all perfect
I'd argue it kind of makes sense for the Chancellor to pause after hearing about Maul's return. Maul was involved in the invasion of his home. Assisted with the hunt of his queen. Killed a Jedi master assigned to protect his queen and almost killed the Padawan in a 2v1 fight. Only falling by the simmest of chances. To a normal senator and chancellor I think a lack of reaction would be a little off to anyone. But he does compose himself well afterwards.
the fact he couldnt sense Maul at all was most likely what made him panic, as it was a possible sign that the Dark Side had chosen Maul's pressence over his own. what Palpatine truly wanted was unlimted power and to rule over all. if the Dark Side itself didnt give him a headsup or allowed him to sense Maul as he regrew his strength, it would prove to him that the Dark Side didnt in fact Favor him, not even remotely so, and he couldnt have that.
Really wished that Disney went with the Maul ST. It would have been so much better than the abysmal Disney trilogy. Seeing Maul train Talon, along with rogue Empire, he heads. And Luke, Leia, etc, dealing with this. But more importantly, Luke helping Maul redeem himself. Which is evident from Luke. As he helped dark users become jedi in the EU.
Of Course He Handled Maul Personally,But He Also Knew How To Handle the Situation, Knowing His Achilles heel,His Apprentice,His Own Brother, SAVAGE,Wich Palpatine killed First,While Making Maul Watch, Knowing that Would Enrage MAUL, Palpatine had everything in order. Easily one of the most epic duels ever. It was the best decision to bring Maul back in the Clonewars,so much lore
It's stated Sidious went to fight Maul because he and Savage were growing too powerful, it's the same reason he asked Dooku to kill Ventress. m.ruclips.net/video/K95w7S63_fQ/видео.html
Were I to guess... No doubt part of Sideous' initial panic came from the possibility that Maul would either expose or supplant him. Rule of Two, and all that. It's mentioned in supplemental lore that Sideous trained Maul to be his instrument, not his successor. And while under his wing Maul showed little ambition or interest in eventually betraying him or taking over the Sith Order. But on learning his former apprentice not only survived but had so for years without contacting him? That changed things. Made Maul a wildcard in Sideous' plans and a loose end that needed tying up. However, after defeating him on Mandalore, he learns and realizes how broken and weak Maul really was. How limited his vision was and clumsy and fragile his attempts to gain power were. He hadn't tried to contact Sideous after his defeat. But hadn't tried to publicly expose him either. And with Talzin and Opress dead, his grip on Mandalore shattered, and little more than a collection of cutthroats and criminals to fall back on, Maul was no real threat to him. He didn't know about Order 66 and even if he started blabbing Palpatine was a Sith, what Jedi or Republic official would believe him? So Sideous did the cruelest thing he could do. He let Maul live to stew in his failure and hopelessness. Let him be a distraction and red herring for the Jedi to focus on while he put the last phases of his plan into motion. He basically demonstrated Maul was no credible threat, beneath even the effort or interest to even kill him, knowing that would hurt him even worse.
@@steampunker7In Legends Maul was meant to be a assassin a more powerful and skilled one then Asajj And Grievous combined as well as higher potentialed then them but his potential, power, and skill were not as high as Dookus according to Plagueis and Sidious as well as Yoda And Obi Wan so had Maul not failed on Naboo alive or not he would of been demoted by Dooku and then once The Skywalkers And Mereks came along because of there higher potentials both would be replaced possibly. In Canon Maul was definitely meant to be a true possible successor apprentice before he got bisected or fell by the way side in Canon Mauls potential was higher then Talzins own and implied to be bigger then Sidious own before he got cut up on Theed. Had Maul not failed then he would stay Palps official apprentice with nobody demoting him with Dooku working under him until The Skywalkers came along and Rey yeah.
@@steampunker7 Maul wasnt a distraction for the Jedi , they dont even bothered with him. They sent an "ordinary" citizen, Ahsoka to deal with him. At that moment Ahsoka wasnt a Jedi, only a force sensitive Togruta trained in the Jedi arts.
Mace Windu was much more of a threat than Darth Sidious realized. Windu's Vapaad lightsaber form and his Shatterpoint ability overpowered Sidious. That is something that not even Grand Master Yoda could do.
It's interesting that this, of all things, disturbed Palpatine the most. I would have figured the most he'd fear is that Maul could have been a loose end in Palpatine's thouroughly-weaved web of secrets.
I don't care what anyone else says, Maul returning was a fantastic idea. I'm actually sad we didn't get to see his reaction in the CGI Series, it would've been amazing.
As Sith Master it was Palpatine's duty to kill off or otherwise neutralise a lost former apprentice. The whole basis of the Banite Sith Order is that there can only be two members at any time, and that multiple members can only result in chaotic infighting.
Yes, for Sidious this was undoubtedly had alarm bells ringing and could spell disaster to his plans 🫢😨 Only a few individuals in the galaxy knew he was a Sith Lord hiding in plain view. Others were Dooku - Der ' Mas Ammeda and the Zillo beast. (SWCW)
Realizing now order 66 was engaged shortly after Maul was captured. Yes after the whole Mace Windu shin dig went down, but that all started because Palp told Anikan he was sith after Palp knew Maul was captured.
Well if he did bring back maul not as an apprentice but an ally along with savage or maybe let Dooku kept ventriss I think things would have happened very differently in revenge of the sith and with a skins turn to darkness
Palpatine found out about Maul because at the end of a Clone Wars episode, Obi-Wan told him that he was back. Then, Palpatine smiled while sitting at his desk.
Of course he would be terrified. Maul is gaining power and the way of the Sith is that there are only two and also Maul knows everything other than the ultimate plot of ultimate revenge that sidious had put in play
Sidious practically toyed with maul and savage, he clearly coulda ended them both at any time. I used to think he somehow sensed obi wans feelings of loss and sadness of satine through the force, much like kenobi felt when he lost his master qui gon and sidious sensed the familiar feeling within kenobi and put two and two together that it was his old apprentice, as much as palpatine would like to see kenobi in pain he would likely want to do it himself so inadvertantly he got even for obi wan as well as eliminated the threat. But after watching this i know i was dead wrong 😂😂😂
@@TheRealSephirothNot so sure about that. Maul managed to land some blows on Palps and was able to back him up a few times. Savage though, was of no threat. I think the cartoony fast movements of the show may not portray how capable Maul actually was in that fight. Even to the point of him giving up, he was atleast a threat, unlike Savage
@@TheRealSephiroth That's because that's how it is/was. Palps definitely could've ended it fast if he wanted. But I think it was more entertaining for him to control the fight and make it last. He knew killed Savage in front of Maul would enrage Maul. And it did. But Maul of course was outmatched. But Maul did atleast land some shots and go blow for blow for a minute. Not many force users can make that claim
That’s because Sidious trained Maul, he knew him probably just as good as Maul knew himself. Palpatine did not know Yoda or Windu as well he knew Maul obviously, but what he did know his how powerful both were. Both were arguably better duelists than himself, and Yoda was arguably his equal in terms of overall force abilities. Mace had hax abilities against dark side force users. Both were also extremely aggressive and offensive heavy in terms of how they dueled, which many of the Jedi generally weren’t, only a few others fought as aggressively as they did. Sidious realized in both duels he was outmatched by the blade as the duels progressed… Maul was a good duelist, but by no means was he the level of the Grandmaster, or Windu who was second in command as Master of the Jedi Order…
@@GeneFOX70Yea that's legends, not canon. Mace using Vapaad beats Maul every single time. Especially since Maul channels rage to strengthen his dark side abilities. That would only benefit Mace in combat. The only way Maul wins is by luck. Say he somehow disarms Mace or something like that.

Conflicted about bringing maul back, however its not nearly as bad a bringing the emperor, that i belive we can all agree on. Palp surived basically bring microwaved etc. Mace supposedky suriving as an after thought, i could buy maul and mace suriving, however the emperor just breaks the lore and plot too much, kinda like hyperspeed kamikazes
I enjoy your videos. I have one request. Please make yourself louder. It’s harder to hear you when compared to the hundreds of videos I watch. Thanks 😊
Also, a what if video idea: what does Palpatine do if Anakin fails his little "test"? If he sides with Windu, Palpatine CANNOT possibly win, in a straight fight, against them both.
I believe that the biggest reason that Disney brought Maul back was the popularity of the Infinities comic where Maul had the double re-curve saber . If one were to look closely at the paused image of Maul’s body falling down the shaft , Maul was bisected just below the ribs and not at the hips , , ,
So basically Sideous got pissed that Maul HADN'T returned to being the Dark Lord's puppet in a twisted screwed up.. rigged game.. An guessing the fact that Maul was basically insane most of or imagine least half the time had little or no bearing on this.. If Palps would've preferred his return somehow you'd think he'd then CONFIRMED Mauls end over just taking all accounts knowing that he was STILL a Force user even if Kenobi LITERALLY turned him into half a Sith if be it quite accidentally an unintentionally.
Sidious would not accept Maul back as a apprentice at least after his Naboo failure even if Maul was fully still loyal to him and not galvanizing with Talzin And Savage yeah.
Palpatine: “Oh…very well, i wish you luck in capturing Count Dooku.” Anakin: “Oh no, its this loser Maul.” *Palpatine chokes up* “I’m sorry…I thought you said Maul. Your master Obi-Wan Kenobi killed him long ago.” Anakin: “Nope, its Maul.” Palpatine thinks to himself: *#%$&, how the hell did my old apprentice survive getting cut in half?!*
The Sith grand plan depended on the Senate giving Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious absolute power throughout the Clone Wars and Sidious not revealing himself to the Jedi until the absolute moment. Maul, who was creating a third power in the galaxy and could reveal Sidious' identity, was the absolute threat to both goals
Not just this but if the jedi ever did capture maul like Ashoka tried to do in the final season of the clone wars maul could have told them everything from who Darth Sidious was to everything he's ever done that alone would have terrified Sidious to his very core
well maul still has 2 hands and is stated to have the potential to surpass him if fully trained which is why Palpatine called him a rival even tho he is not full potential yet
But yet, Palps didn't kill Maul. Palps realized Maul wasn't a real threat, killed his brother in front of him and left him to fester in his own sorrow. Truly the worst/dirtiest thing Palps could've done. Killing Maul at that point would've been sympathetic. But it was still an honor to have the emperor come and handle the situation himself. Palps definitely didn't know what to expect when confronting Maul and Ventress. But of course, he quickly learned that it was a fairly easy situation
@@WilliamBraswell-es6pp Oh absolutely. I mean Maul actually put up a bit of a fight against Palps. Savage had no chance, but Maul was able to land some blows and back palps up a couple of times. And that was Maul at one of his weakest moments. Full potential Maul might've been able to defeat the old bastard lmao (although I doubt it)
Here's something I've been wondering: How exactly did the Jedi find out his name was Darth Maul? The only thing I can figure is that Gunray spilled the beans somehow, sometime, like during TCW when they caught him and there was that traitor clone, but that doesn't quite make sense either...🤔 I mean the Jedi just referred to him as "the Sith" the entire movie so...how exactly...
I thought palpatine found out maul was still alive after that meeting with Kenobi in TCW, the episode ends with Palpatine grinning with excitement. Not an expression of fear or surprise.
I'd be scared too if I found out some dude with a grudge against me survived being cut completely in half AND falling down a bottomless pit and lying there in two halves for an undisclosed time. Honestly even if he was just a head he would probably still be dangerous by bitting my ankles.
I can understand why Anakin couldn’t face Grievous before ROTS but I see no reason why he couldn’t face Maul and I wish we could’ve gotten a confrontation between those two.
If Maul was patient, he and Savage could've defeated Palpatine. Palpatine didn't sense them so they could've stayed hidden, completed Savage's training, and collected Sith holocrons
It’s weird to think all he had to do was get his marbles back and publicly broadcast the master plan. That’s it. Yeah it’s the word of an enemy of the republic vs the chancellor but he would have to know enough specific details to make it sound plausible.
I always saw Maul as more of an assassin than a sith lord. Reason is because he wanted to focus soley on his light saber fighting rather developing the force lightning like Doku and other aspects of the dark side.

Maul was not a sith lord. He's only a sith assassin
maul was still alive all this time and sidious even called him a rival and in tpm sidious referred to him as "lord maul"@@bluntslt8023
@@bluntslt8023no, only the rightful Sith are entitled to the Darth title and Maul possessed one.
@@bluntslt8023 His name was DARTH Maul. Darth meaning Sith Lord
Palpatine: You weren't supposed to do that
Maul: What, survive?
Palpatine: Yes, people don't live getting cut in half!
Grievous: Hello there
Palpatine: You aren't "people"
Grievous: sad coughing
Maul: I feel this is going age even more poorly for you
I always found it interesting that Sidious ultimately declared Maul to be a rival. Because think about it, when you're enemy is the most powerful person in the galaxy, having them call you that is a pretty high compliment, especially since it's the only time I can think of when Palaptine said that about anyone 😊
And then palpatine proceeded to wipe to floors of the mandalorian palace with Maul and Savage Oppress 😂
Lets face it, Maul was the one apprentice that always got to Sidious, and he hated it. Lol
Darth Mauls survival also explains why Palpatine bothered to save Anakin.
Maul is the best! Easily the coolest and best Star Wars character
the rebels scene where Obi wan kills maul was one of the best starwars scenes ever IMO.
Lord Sidious was NEVER afraid of Maul , he was afraid of what Maul might say if the jedi got to him first.
It's stated Sidious went to fight Maul because he and Savage were growing too powerful, it's the same reason he asked Dooku to kill Ventress.
m.ruclips.net/video/K95w7S63_fQ/видео.html
Then the question remains: Why, after using Maul to permanently kill Mother Talzin, did Sidious at that time let him live?
Darth Maul was an amazing character!
Mace Windu was much more of a threat than Darth Sidious realized. Windu's Vapaad lightsaber form and his Shatterpoint ability overpowered Sidious. That is something that not even Grand Master Yoda could do.
In the book Yoda bested Sidious in lightsaber combat while both were even in force battles yeah.
Good video. Very interesting.
Maul had become a rival but more importantly he knew about Palps plans (order 66). he must have been told while he was still Palps apprentice.
As Sith Master it was Palpatine's duty to kill off or otherwise neutralise a lost former apprentice. The whole basis of the Banite Sith Order is that there can only be two members at any time, and that multiple members can only result in chaotic infighting.
Yes, for Sidious this was undoubtedly had alarm bells ringing and could spell disaster to his plans 🫢😨
Only a few individuals in the galaxy knew he was a Sith Lord hiding in plain view.
Others were Dooku - Der ' Mas Ammeda and the Zillo beast. (SWCW)
Sidious went full savage when he just decides to humiliate both of them goated moment
Realizing now order 66 was engaged shortly after Maul was captured. Yes after the whole Mace Windu shin dig went down, but that all started because Palp told Anikan he was sith after Palp knew Maul was captured.
I always enjoy your halcyon videos I have learned so much
If darth sidious shows up to deal with you, he knows you're a serious threat. Run!!!
Darth Maul is like fuck lose ends
He was only scared because he thought Maul would ruin everything for him.
Mail was looking to kidnap Anakin as lil boy on Tatooine until QG stepped in 😂
Darth Maul is favorite rogue Dark side force wielder besides Savage Opress,Asajj Ventress! 💯
"sometimes it is just that important" Darth Tyrannus
Anakin : “Oh yeah Palpatine guess what Maul is back who would have guessed!”
Of course he would be terrified. Maul is gaining power and the way of the Sith is that there are only two and also Maul knows everything other than the ultimate plot of ultimate revenge that sidious had put in play
Ya cut in half , falls down shaft, then Mace Windu sees body. Of course he survived.
"Why do you think this Sith lord is still alive? There is no Sith! Count Dooku probably isnt a Sith! This is bull Sith!"
Mauls my all time favorite character in star wars
It's often funny how people who betray, and plan to betray, are still so hurt when they, themselves, are betrayed.
Maul is one of the few who Sid went after himself
Sidious practically toyed with maul and savage, he clearly coulda ended them both at any time. I used to think he somehow sensed obi wans feelings of loss and sadness of satine through the force, much like kenobi felt when he lost his master qui gon and sidious sensed the familiar feeling within kenobi and put two and two together that it was his old apprentice, as much as palpatine would like to see kenobi in pain he would likely want to do it himself so inadvertantly he got even for obi wan as well as eliminated the threat. But after watching this i know i was dead wrong 😂😂😂
It's stated that Sidious only toyed with Savage and that he fought Maul seriously.
@@GeneFOX70 it sure doesnt look that way to me, he looked like he could mop the floor with both of them 👀
@@TheRealSephirothNot so sure about that. Maul managed to land some blows on Palps and was able to back him up a few times. Savage though, was of no threat. I think the cartoony fast movements of the show may not portray how capable Maul actually was in that fight. Even to the point of him giving up, he was atleast a threat, unlike Savage
@@toxicgracie3772 well its just how it looked to me 🤷♂️
@@TheRealSephiroth That's because that's how it is/was.
That was a good flight
I think Maul could've prevented oder 66 if he was subdue by the Jedi oder.
What's the background music you have for these videos, absolutely love the eerie of it 🔥💯
He didn't seem petrified fighting Maul, but he seemed nervous and surprised by Windu and Yoda.
@@sleeper.simulant7327 Maul fought Mace Windu and Ayla Secura in a 2V1 and was doing fine against them.

"Perhaps I should study the Sith, to better understand the threat that you're facing. I saw a book on Amazon called "The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise." I'll try that out and tell you about it sometime."
Conflicted about bringing maul back, however its not nearly as bad a bringing the emperor, that i belive we can all agree on. Many sith in lore have surivied fatal injuries, mainly due to both the force and their negative emotions. Vader, maul, some of the old republic sith.
Palpy would probably run.
@@silverchairsg How though?! 🤔 I guess he could jump the window, land on a speeder, but he ain't walking out the door, that's for sure.
Great Vid
Could you do one about when Luke met Krayt and his battle against abeloth?
I believe that the biggest reason that Disney brought Maul back was the popularity of the Infinities comic where Maul had the double re-curve saber . If one were to look closely at the paused image of Maul’s body falling down the shaft , Maul was bisected just below the ribs and not at the hips , , ,
Sidious really never thought to think Maul couldnt contact him or only recently regained mobility hey?
I believe how he found out is he felt his presence since they were connected before by Master and Apprentice.
How did he possibly survive? Is Mace also alive then?
From this channel I’ve learned that palp was scared of everything and everyone all the time.
The newest "moving out skit" at the Between Two Ferns Boom House?
This then begs the question: Why didn't Palpatine kill Maul on Mandalore? Since we saw him re-appear on Tatooine after Luke and Leia's birth.
Check out the Darth Maul : Son of Dathomir comics. He kept him alive to de-stabilise his criminal empire and draw out Mother Talzin.
2 people survived off of their hatred for Obi-Wan… that’s goals right there..
I'm curious how Sidious would have reacted if he saw Yoda giving into the Dark Side, as Duuku had seen
Palpatine: “Oh…very well, i wish you luck in capturing Count Dooku.”
Anakin: “Oh no, its this loser Maul.”
*Palpatine chokes up*
“I’m sorry…I thought you said Maul. Your master Obi-Wan Kenobi killed him long ago.”
Anakin: “Nope, its Maul.”
Palpatine thinks to himself: *#%$&, how the hell did my old apprentice survive getting cut in half?!*
You have become a RIVAL!!!
Where can I find the music in this video? I love it
Not just this but if the jedi ever did capture maul like Ashoka tried to do in the final season of the clone wars maul could have told them everything from who Darth Sidious was to everything he's ever done that alone would have terrified Sidious to his very core
I’m sorry to high jack a bit maul coming back was huge and I believe that ventress coming back will make a huge difference
well maul still has 2 hands and is stated to have the potential to surpass him if fully trained which is why Palpatine called him a rival even tho he is not full potential yet
Brilliant ❤😎🙏
Cinematic mistake at 4:13 mark, they didn’t paint Ray Parks(Darth Maul) neck
Next one : "Why Maul didn't tell that palpatine was a sith lord ? "
What is the song used in the beginning?
Honestly people don’t know how much of an honor it is for sidious to go out and kill you himself

Here's something I've been wondering: How exactly did the Jedi find out his name was Darth Maul? The only thing I can figure is that Gunray spilled the beans somehow, sometime, like during TCW when they caught him and there was that traitor clone, but that doesn't quite make sense either...🤔
I mean the Jedi just referred to him as "the Sith" the entire movie so...how exactly...
I thought palpatine found out maul was still alive after that meeting with Kenobi in TCW, the episode ends with Palpatine grinning with excitement. Not an expression of fear or surprise.
Because that was before he found out Maul was aided by Talzin and the rest of Dathomir yeah.
I want Maul to come back again in the canon. Perhaps the nightsisters can bring him back to life somehow.
They sure didnt hold to the rule of 2 they has dozens of sith all over
What ever happened to Maul's original ship?
Is it still on Naboo?
I’m pretty sure Sidious discovered that Maul survived because the Jedi told him in the CW and not in the comic
He could feel him in dark side
The upper and lower feeding pit works a bit too Sherlock Holmes to tell the queen that Robin hood is in Sherwood Forest but the imperial leather forgot the 9/11 deal with the devil ❤ keep the sea quell ❤
still it would had been more of an Sidious move to ask Maul to kill Savage and Talzin to return to his masters side.
I doubt it. They way the Emperor kicked his ass without popping a sweat.
First i was afraid, i was petrified..
Since Palpatine defeated Maul when Maul had the Darksaber, does that technically mean Palpatine could’ve been the ruler of Mandolore?
