- We're swapping out the stock intake and installing a Perrin Performance Cold Air Intake so add some induction noise to the car! We had a different intake installed originally, but after installing the Jackson Racing dual radiator/oil cooler setup we ran into some clearance issues. The Perrin CAI doesn't have a large box so we won't have that problem!

I have to say from a functional standpoint, this is the 1st intake I have seen that will likely have any gains. At the same time I dont like the idea of having to remove the bumper every time the filter needs to be cleaned
eplaced. I also would think that filter placement could be problematic in rain. The factory snorkel sits there but the filter itself sits way up in the box and stays dry. The perrin filter will get wet for sure. IDK if that will hurt anything or not.
I had the exact same thought while watching this…what a pain in the butt to get to for servicing…
It takes me about 5 minutes to get the bumper off. It's not as difficult as it seems. As for water, I don't believe that's going to be an issue either due to where it's placed behind the bumper.
@@KevinVo Taking it off isn't too bad, but putting it back and aligning the tabs/pop clips on the bottom is such a pain in the ass lol. Though I'm sure putting the car on some stands would help tremendously on that front

Surprised it didn’t come with a coupling to complete the entire system to the throttle body.
The intake tube can be swapped as well with their unit. I just forgot to get one haha
Now that's pretty cool that they used bolts for core support. Most of the time it's welded. A tad bit envious I am lol
I am waiting to buy the GR86 next year(2024).Just hope Toyota offers more exterior color options.Can't wait.
I’d probably throw a K&N air filter protector on there to keep it from soaked with water

The skunk2 powerbox intake also routes behind the bumper. Whenever I take my bumper of I have to tape up my headlights cus it's so easy for the edges to scrape against them.
Yeah, you have to be really careful around the headlights!

I’m concerned about having to push in the air dam. Seems like it might negatively impact the airflow in that area. Wouldn’t want to mess with aerodynamics or radiator efficiency
I like! Maybe the SPEED Engineering Upgrade-Airbox is worth it too. The Videos from the induction sounds they uploaded on Instagram are really nice... And they had the car on a dyno to prove its not loosing any hp... :)

Hope you don't mind I copied your initial setup. I've also paired the Perrin Performance Cold Air Intake and the Jackson Racing dual radiator/oil cooler.
I would really like to see dyno results for each of these mods. Noty an easy ask, I know. Would be interesting, though.
I've dyno tested intakes in the past and the differences are negligible really. You may see ~5hp but it's not anything you're going to notice. The sound is the main factor.
So you have to remove the front bumper to clean the filter? Would anyone actually ever clean it?

Hi, I have this one in my car (previous owner installed it). How do we clean and oil the cone filter? Can we use K&N air filter recharge kit? Thank you.
If not for the fit issues, which intake do you prefer?/recommend. I’ve been looking at the armaspeed
It's really personal preference for this car. It's not going to make that big of a difference. Just make sure it's from a reputable company that has done it's research so your car doesn't run like crap.
Does adding a cold air intake require a retune?
So is this the best choice for induction noise or is there a better choice for a stock gr86

Any chance of a dyno comparison? Stock vs arma vs perrin?
There isn't much to show. Not many power gains to be had from just an intake.
Just out of curiosity. I was planning on getting the other intake. I also need an oil cooler for track days as well. Is there an alternative oil cooler kit to install? And also, what exactly was the clearance issue? Were you not able to put it back together?
The corner closest to the filter made contact with the sandwich plate/lines. I can't confirm fitment with any other systems unfortunately.
Will this mod make changing the air filter a difficult job?
Taking the bumper off takes me about 5 minutes. Difficulty is subjective.

I had a question about the rtv issues. I’m getting my gr 86 soon and will be tracking it. Do you think rtv will be an issue, if so is there anything I can do or a 3rd party mechanic to prevent any issues from occurring.
I don't think it will be a huge issue as the new pickup tube design is a lot better than the old one, but if you want some peace of mind I would suggest dropping the pan to check after a few track days to clean it out.

Pretty well accepted that changing the air intake on these cars, both series, is the biggest waste of money you can spend on them. OEM has been shown to be excellent and non OEM produce no increase in power without a tune to suit. Once these cars have the front off they rarely ever go back on properly and sag. Far better things to spend money on.
People don't change the intake on these cars to make more power. They do it for the induction sound. Also, the bumper mounts are different on the 2nd gen and don't sag like the first gen.

There are definitely worse things to spend money on haha they're not currently live on their website yet I don't believe.
