I have to say from a functional standpoint, this is the 1st intake I have seen that will likely have any gains. At the same time I dont like the idea of having to remove the bumper every time the filter needs to be cleaned eplaced. I also would think that filter placement could be problematic in rain. The factory snorkel sits there but the filter itself sits way up in the box and stays dry. The perrin filter will get wet for sure. IDK if that will hurt anything or not.
It takes me about 5 minutes to get the bumper off. It's not as difficult as it seems. As for water, I don't believe that's going to be an issue either due to where it's placed behind the bumper.
@@KevinVo Taking it off isn't too bad, but putting it back and aligning the tabs/pop clips on the bottom is such a pain in the ass lol. Though I'm sure putting the car on some stands would help tremendously on that front
Not until about a month ago did I start to get interested in the GR86 whcih led me to find your channel and your channel has shown me so much about the car. Thank you.
The skunk2 powerbox intake also routes behind the bumper. Whenever I take my bumper of I have to tape up my headlights cus it's so easy for the edges to scrape against them.
I’m concerned about having to push in the air dam. Seems like it might negatively impact the airflow in that area. Wouldn’t want to mess with aerodynamics or radiator efficiency
I like! Maybe the SPEED Engineering Upgrade-Airbox is worth it too. The Videos from the induction sounds they uploaded on Instagram are really nice... And they had the car on a dyno to prove its not loosing any hp... :)
now you've had the filter for a while. I'm curious how it feels after it sits for a while. and how does it Stand against rain when driving? or how is it after rman washed the car =D?
Hi, I have this one in my car (previous owner installed it). How do we clean and oil the cone filter? Can we use K&N air filter recharge kit? Thank you.
It's really personal preference for this car. It's not going to make that big of a difference. Just make sure it's from a reputable company that has done it's research so your car doesn't run like crap.
Kevin you seriously need to stop making me sexually attracted to this car. It seriously doesn't help that the merch could burn down a fucking forest with how fire it is.
Hope you don't mind I copied your initial setup. I've also paired the Perrin Performance Cold Air Intake and the Jackson Racing dual radiator/oil cooler.
Just out of curiosity. I was planning on getting the other intake. I also need an oil cooler for track days as well. Is there an alternative oil cooler kit to install? And also, what exactly was the clearance issue? Were you not able to put it back together?
I've dyno tested intakes in the past and the differences are negligible really. You may see ~5hp but it's not anything you're going to notice. The sound is the main factor.
I had a question about the rtv issues. I’m getting my gr 86 soon and will be tracking it. Do you think rtv will be an issue, if so is there anything I can do or a 3rd party mechanic to prevent any issues from occurring.
I don't think it will be a huge issue as the new pickup tube design is a lot better than the old one, but if you want some peace of mind I would suggest dropping the pan to check after a few track days to clean it out.
Pretty well accepted that changing the air intake on these cars, both series, is the biggest waste of money you can spend on them. OEM has been shown to be excellent and non OEM produce no increase in power without a tune to suit. Once these cars have the front off they rarely ever go back on properly and sag. Far better things to spend money on.
People don't change the intake on these cars to make more power. They do it for the induction sound. Also, the bumper mounts are different on the 2nd gen and don't sag like the first gen.

I had the exact same thought while watching this…what a pain in the butt to get to for servicing…

Now that's a true cold air intake, well done! It would be great to get a dyno session to see if any gains were made. Either ways, very nice!
Dyno results are on Perrins website
Was eagerly awaiting the 22-23 version of this and BOOM! YA BOI's already got the install video. Bravo.
looks sweet nice work kevin! want to hear the induction noise now
Sound review will come soon once I quiet the car down a tad!
@@KevinVo looking forward to it!
I’ll bet the induction sounds from that are really nice! Excited for that reveal. 👌
I'm excited myself!!
@@KevinVo any soundclips..?
Surprised it didn’t come with a coupling to complete the entire system to the throttle body.
The intake tube can be swapped as well with their unit. I just forgot to get one haha
Now that's pretty cool that they used bolts for core support. Most of the time it's welded. A tad bit envious I am lol
fire videos bro! just got my 86 last week and been watching u for weeks before to get a lot of info.
love seeing all the different mods you're doing kevin!
Thanks for watching!
I am waiting to buy the GR86 next year(2024).Just hope Toyota offers more exterior color options. Can't wait.
Those Driven 86 shirt designs are fire. That black and white one...so nice.
Glad you like them!!
Great video man, love the looks of the intake, plus the way you explain each and every step is very helpful
👍
Appreciate the support!
I’d probably throw a K&N air filter protector on there to keep it from soaked with water
Would of liked a demonstration of the intake noise out and inside the car. But great job again.
The skunk2 powerbox intake also routes behind the bumper. Whenever I take my bumper of I have to tape up my headlights cus it's so easy for the edges to scrape against them.
Yeah, you have to be really careful around the headlights!
@Kevin Vo glad I'm not the only who faced that issue! And again Kev thanks for the great content. 👍
I had the Perrin on my frs. I loved it.
Glad to hear! I'll be putting one on my frs as well!

Great video, only thing missing was the start up! I had not seen this intake yet. Gazoo Shirts look cool. How is that not copyright though? 🤔

Thx alot u keep doin such amazing Video

Thanks for watching!
Cool shirt design. Wish there were options to have longer length and v-neck style.
These shirts already do run a bit longer.
Bro you should really do some sound clips at the end of the video. That way we can compare it with all the other intakes for this car!
I'll be doing a sound review later on once I make the car bit more quiet. Right now I wouldn't be able to hear the intake over my exhaust.
So you have to remove the front bumper to clean the filter? Would anyone actually ever clean it?
Looks like the car got a headset mic.
Gamer mod! haha
I had read you could swap the foam filter with theirs paper/cone filter
Would you think that living in an area with constant rain and some heavy storms would waterboard the filter?
Did you get a prototype copy of the intake? Don't even see it listed on the website as of yet
Yes, I believe this is one of the first production units sent to me test. Once I have more information on availability I can share!
@@KevinVo Yes, please! very interested in how it sounds!
If you actually call them you can order it now otherwise I think it's going live on the website next week!
Hey Kevin, what spare tire would you recommend?
It would be great to see if it makes more hp
Does adding a cold air intake require a retune?
So is this the best choice for induction noise or is there a better choice for a stock gr86
Hey Kevin! Do you know why I'm getting a check engine light with the MST Intake?
Hard to say, did you pull the code?
Sick ! 🚀🔥

How often do you need to replace the filter? Or is it better to clean and re-oil?
Hi, I have this one in my car (previous owner installed it). How do we clean and oil the cone filter? Can we use K&N air filter recharge kit? Thank you.
If not for the fit issues, which intake do you prefer?/recommend. I’ve been looking at the armaspeed

aFe power vs Perrin intake shootout Much?
Next video pulley kit to scion fr-s and dyno...😬
Will I need a tune if I run this ?
Any chance of a dyno comparison? Stock vs arma vs perrin?
There isn't much to show. Not many power gains to be had from just an intake.
Will this mod make changing the air filter a difficult job?
Taking the bumper off takes me about 5 minutes. Difficulty is subjective.

The corner closest to the filter made contact with the sandwich plate/lines. I can't confirm fitment with any other systems unfortunately.
I would really like to see dyno results for each of these mods. Noty an easy ask, I know. Would be interesting, though.
