    I arrived in london from south Africa, got a job, place to live, once that was sorted i spent my entire life savings, 10 000 Rand converted to pounds, at the time was about 1000gbp only, bit less maybe, And bought my 1st pair of sl1200's and a mixer!
    Vinyl mixing.... all budding djs should get to grips with it! It was also a barrier to entry, the price tag and skill of it.
    Now anyone and their dog can be a dj! But not necessarily a talented sequencer and curator of music.
    If u use sync, be creative in other ways, add efx, loops for example. Make that extra time not spent beat matching count. Then i can see merit in someone using it, if they not going to beat match. 😎
    Cool vid.
    Skool us Technics and DJ Mag!

    I started on Technics in 1993 and I still use Technics, I gave up dj'ing in clubs because nearly all clubs started using on CD decks, I tried CD decks but felt they were more like toys. I use Native Instruments Traktor Scratch nowadays but still with timecoded vinyl because I never wanna give up that vinyl aspect of dj'ing. I think Mickey Finn was too kind towards the sync button to be honest I wonder what he REALLY thinks. I know me personally i'm blunt and I think any dj who uses sync is cheating, it takes 90% of the skill out od dj'ing and makes dj'ing so easy even a child can do it. Two mates of mine who who CD decks came my place a few years ago and tried on my Technics, i'd disabled sync and BPM counters in Traktor already because I don't beatmatch that way i've always beatmatched by ear. Anyway my two mates couldn't mix they play in clubs on CD decks and round my place they sounded like beginners, lol. This backs up my view that using sync takes 90% of the skill out of dj'ing.

      Same here, bought my 1200's in 1983 brand new and paid 300 each and bought a GLI mixer. Also had to sell mine at a reduced price because of hard times and now, just a shitty pair of decks is going for about 5-700 used each. If you wanted to buy the newest model of Technics now, they run about 1400 which is just fucking ridiculous. There much less DJ's back then which result in much lower sales than you have today with everyone in their mother wanting to now be a DJ so why the price hike is just pure greed and to make it un-afordable for most. Ain't gonna spend over 3k for them and with used comes the problems of how people treat them. All these companies like rane, traktor are really killing the industry in a sense with these produced fake DJ's. With all of this crap out, it's going to make it much more harder for a talented turntable DJ to get a job and demand their price at a club because with rane serato and traktor doing the job for these fake DJ's, a club could save thousands not paying some DJ with real talent. Look on RUclips, Rob swift is spitting out DJ's left and right, it's going to be a bleak future for the true DJ who has to provide for his family with the talent they have a earned. What i am trying to say is you have a Marine who served, earned his medals and stripes then you have some faker go into goodwill and finds some marines donated uniform and he slaps it on and roams the street making everyone think he deserves the title. STOLEN VALOR!, it is in the same respect. No one truly does anything for just a hobby and in some point they come to the idea that they would like to make some money at it.

    • @virtual4desires
      @virtual4desires 4 года назад +2

      Same here but you understand where i am coming from. Big corporations are always scheming in the back ground and devising plans of stealing all the money for themselves. People are gullible and are just so wowed at all this new technology that's coming out and not realizing what it's really going to do to the industry, yes it's going to make music all sound so much better but on some respect something else has to take the down fall for it and the end result will be that talented DJ who has earned his stripes. Instead of me now getting 5-7k a weekend DJ'ing at some popular club, some half ass with all his digital shit and software that does it all for him will get paid 1500.00 for that weekend. As i said before, i have no gripes for all these new digital stuff for people using it for the average Hobbyist, that's what i do now except i am truly stuck to the wheels of steel, just for the hobby because i have gotten so disgusted of what's happening. Shure announced it will not longer make Dj needles and cartridges which has now drove up the prices by 4-5 times fold of any remaining stock left out there on the market so the only other alternative is now the very expensive Ortofons. These fake DJ's have now caused a dryup on needles. Anyone with a fat wallet today can be a dj, Talent no longer required.

    Good to see Technic bringing back a new turntable with an old soul. Pioneer and Reloop made decent decks but I think DJ'S missed the "feel " of what only a 1200 mk2 can give. Yes lm showing my age here. Lets not forget that before the 1210 there was the 1200. I still got a few tapes of me mixing on my 1200's and a Power mpa 601 notary mixer. Sadly I had to sell my 1200's and I regret it still to this day (Still got that Power 601 thou).

    " Mickey Finn " Technics Deck cost £300 , My car cost £500"
    Pair of new Technics SL1210 Mk7 , I wonder what Car that's near today with the price 😃?
    I think pair of Technics SL 1210 MK2 or Mk5 will always be the best deck in solid performance , the parts back then was expensive with quality in build that's why they still play fresh today
    400 was expensive in 90s for turntable but these new Technics
    Double that , I really don't understand Panasonic's vision here
    Just release a Technics SL 1200 or 1210 MK2 or Mk5 level
    Remake , price it around 345 deck , that would sell big in the DJ market then a 800 a deck Technics SL 1210 mk7 , only club or bars will buy them , for that price new djs etc will buy a DJ controller that's high end .

    I started out using belt drives and then saved up for a pair of Technics which were like nothing else back then. Now I have CDJs which I must say sound better. I still have my Technics and prefer the feel of them when playing, but you can't beat the sound quality of digital format.

      Check you ears mate, get a hearing test, or get new speakers ! You can't beat the analogue sound of a 12 inch piece of vinyl that was recorded for a club. Get a copy of "Blue Monday" by New Order & really turn up the volume. Cheers mate.

      @cun7us 4 года назад

      @@beeboy6967 lol nope, you need to get your ears tested. Even with brand new needles vinyl doesn't beat the original source. After all, it's been copied from lossless format to begin with, except it rolls off all frequencies below 20Hz and above 17kHz. With WAV you get the full spectrum and pristine sound quality.

    Nothing will equal the analogue pitch faders on Mk2/M3d/Mk5 Technics, for playing real vinyl.
    The Mk7 is the best 'new' turntable for DJ-ing, but it isn't close to the accuracy of the original model. But, everyone uses DVS now, so I guess it doesn't matter : I would love to see anyone who 'loves' the new Mk7 do a vinyl house/techno mix, with long 2 to 3 minute transitions and 3 deck mixing on the Mk7, because it just isn't possible without constantly juggling them.

    At the very end it is claimed just how great the digital pitch is. I am owning a pair of MK7's now for a few days and have difficulty beatmatching while I never have issues with it on SL1200 MK2's which I own and use for 20 years. I'm not 100% sure it's only the pitch or also the torque which I haven't found the ideal setting of. I just had not anticipated that there would be a learning curve going from MK2 to MK7. I hope it is just a learning curve and not something that will keep happening because digital pitch is incremental and the desired speed may be just between two increments, while correcting on the platter which always used to help up until now makes things worse.

  • @adriandja-plusteague1401

    The mark 7..smoother motor..better arm..better wiring..dedicated rca and ground outputs..and detachable power lead..but the base is nowhere as solid as the Mk2..being not of the bulk moulding compound but lighter . This results in less resistance to vibration and lesser bass response. So if this bothers ..get the GR for not much more (BMC base) or Mk1-6. Otherwise..good deck.

      Indeed so ,
      The digital pitch is ok on these some say but again it's nothing like old Technics analog pitch fader, it stays in time longer plus you can move the platter bit with the pitch to fine adjust old style , you can't do that with digital turntables

    • @JamBurglar
      @JamBurglar 4 года назад +1

      I've had the M5Gs (which have digital pitch) for years now. I came up with the analog pitches on the MKii and the M3D and have lots of time on those decks. Honestly, I prefer the digital pitch on the M5Gs because it's just a lot more consistent. The problem I had with the analog pitches is that they aren't consistent. You can always use your ears for slow mixes (your ears are always reliable), but when you want to rock doubles you don't want to go in fast. The problem is, with the analog pitches, you can put both decks on "+4%" and in reality, one will be at +3% and the other will be at +4.25%. The decks weren't always consistent to each other. Also, you would see inconsistencies in the amount of pitch change over the travel of the slider. You might go up 2% in pitch from 0 to 2 on the slider, but from 2 to 4 on the slider you might go up only 1% pitch, then up 3% pitch from 4 to 6 on the slider. The digital pitches are much more consistent in that regard. I've never had any issue with drifting pitches on the digital sliders. So, I don't know, I wonder whether a lot of the blowback about the digital pitch is coming from people who don't have that much experience on both styles.

( The only isues I had were with the tonearms ) I bought and played on other 1210 - MK2s since then which were 'very slightly out' / Did not hold the tempo quire aswellafter alot of use, I have had 4x MD3's Never any issues wirh motor accuracy..
