  • Part One of a two part compilation of my visits around the Cumbrian fields during this summer’s silage season. Despite the weather being a bit iffy (especially during July) I managed to catch up with 9 outfits this year. This video features the following - MF 7720S & Kongskilde FCT 1060 forager, Claas Jaguar 950 self propelled, NH TS100A & JF FCT900
MF 7614 & JF FCT 850, NH FR550 self propelled.
Part two will follow in a couple of weeks time.
    Filmed in Cumbria June/July 2023.
If you enjoy my videos of farm machinery at work in Cumbria (and Southern Scotland), please consider subscribing. Likes and taking the time to comment (preferably positive ones) are always welcomed and I will try to reply as soon as possible although if I’m at work or out filming there might be a delay. Cheers, David.

Thank you, pleased you enjoyed it. Yes always a pleasure to watch the trailed machines at work, still making quality silage for many farmers round here. Cheers, David

Wonderfull roundup and memories of summer silage lifting David, some very nice machinary in action too, you would never have thought that drags would stand 250 plus Hp of a modern tractor, we have had so much rain here that its not fit to even walk across in some fields, but lucky to weather elswhere, jusy uploaded a maize video, been lucky enought to catch some action this autumn, cheers Steve . 🚜🎥👍

Cheers Steve. Yes memories, it seems so long ago that I was standing in the fields breathing in the fresh smell of cut grass and watching and listening to the sound of the machinery. Yeh 250hp+, in my day 100hp was about the norm! Not been too clever up here weatherwise but not as bad as some places! I’ll have to catch up on your videos, it’s been manic at work these last few months, hopefully I’ll get round to watching this weekend! Cheers David

Hi David, great to see a new video with the silage compilation to bring us some cheer. At least the weather on these days you filmed was a little more pleasant that the current situation! Got to say that I do love seeing these modern self propelled units we have today as they really can march on at a fair pace, but used think when they first came out we would be loosing all the skills that went with trailed foragers and having to pick up trailers, but then its really was not an efficient way of doing things anymore for some bigger farms. Having said that, the MF 7614 & JF FCT 850 were fair tramping on with what looked like pretty full windrows. I know my own neighbor has 2 x CLAAS Jaguars which are always busy doing contracting work. Thanks for the videos and looking forward to part 2. Hope your keeping well and just to say, I did get your last message, but not sure if you got my reply. Fraser

Thank you Fraser and good to hear from you. Yes I think we all need some cheer over the next few months, those lovely long summer days seem so far away, hopefully these compilation videos will provide some. Oh those self-propelled machines can definitely march on and your right although the trailed outfits took a lot of skill and concentration to operate I wouldn’t like to pilot one of those big SP machines, must be a long and tiring day doing so. Yeh the MF 7614/ FCT 850 very efficient and they were indeed hefty windrows. That double Jaguar outfit will be pretty impressive to watch I would imagine, definitely clear some grass in a days work! Thank you for watching the videos and taking time to comment, always a pleasure to hear from you. I’ll probably be posting part 2 a fortnight tonight. I’m keeping well, looking forward to a break over Christmas. Think I deleted my message and your reply by mistake Fraser but will send another over the weekend. Look after yourself, hope to hear from you soon again. Regards, David.

Yes it’s been pretty mild so far Des so the stock has seemed to be out in the fresh air longer this year. Unfortunately the mild weather does usually mean rain, we’ve been fairly lucky up here in Cumbria too, certainly better off weather wise than the atrocious conditions further down the country!

Ah the West Cumbrian farming country is an area I’d like to explore Des, bet there’s some nice machinery over there to watch at work in the fields. There was a lovely Case 2094 featured in the Classic Tractor magazine a couple of years back I’d love to see working, you’ll possibly know the owners? I’ll have to try and venture out there in 2024, hopefully it’ll happen and who knows our paths might just cross!
