    My teen and pre-teen kids love you, Katy! Thank you so much for all of your tutorials!! Their fiddle teacher was no longer able to offer classes due to illness, but your videos have allowed them to keep learning, and in fact pursue their favorite kinds of songs. My sons have taught themselves from several of your tutorials and now are teaching their younger sisters with your tutorials. They all spend time just watching your music videos for fun. My 12 year old daughter says that you are really fun and playful and nice and she loves how you wears fun colors and flowers. :)

    Hi Katy, I just wanted to say Thank You - for all your tutorials.
    The one on Tam Lin saved me when I was totally fed up with a Schubert quartet.
    By now they have become part of my daily routine as a way to unwind.
    The structure of your lessons is great. By breaking it down into plain melody, ornamentation and slow run through players of all level can profit- and succeed from it.
    Keep posting, Cheers Lumi

      +Lumi Ketonen Thank you, Lumi! I'm glad that my tutorials help! =) I can relate to feeling frustrated with difficult music... A piece starts off great until I turn to a page that's so hard!! It can feel really defeating... =/ I really like fiddle music because it's a lot more laid back and social. I wish you all the best with your Schubert quartet! =) I love a lot of Schubert's compositions - they are so pretty! ^_^

    Hi Katy and thanks for all your tutorials. You are one of the reason I began fiddle. Just 6 months I began this instrument and I attack this one few days ago (with "your" sheet). One day I will have the level for Tiam Lin, this one and others for playing them in an Irish pub ! You tutorials are really really good (even if I have no problem whith sheet). But I have a lot of work in front of me.... So, thanks again from a french fiddle beginner and please don't stop !

    I had to learn this for a production I was in back in the spring. the way I learned it was slightly different than this, the A part anyway and it's a lot more difficult for me to play, even today I don't feel like I can play the song well despite knowing it. I can't wait to try this version and see if I pick up on it easier. I caught on to Catharses quickly and I'm in the process of doing Tam Lin. Your tutorials are really well done.

    I would like to add , that I've rarely seen a wild horse or, in my part of the country, a rich mountain . But I have once in a while seen a "Maid Behind a Bar."

    • @KatyAdelson
      @KatyAdelson  8 лет назад

      +Doug Nickerson I don't think I've ever seen a wild horse, either... I guess there was the gold rush in Colorado, so we did have a few "rich mountains" lol... I wonder where some of these titles come from!? ("Squirrel Heads and Garvy" is one crazy tune title example... lol!)

    • @dougnickerson
      @dougnickerson 8 лет назад

      +Katy Adelson thanks as always 4 your Interesting reply. Different names @ a session . I suppose the Important thing is what a tune sounds like & can people communicate about the tunes at all . A confusing example is "Paddy on the Turnpike ," i've heard played the version in Gm much as you play it . Others have a tune In G major, same name , with the similarity that it goes from a G harmony to an F and back. An Oak publications book refers to the famous 'Avalanche' by Vassar Clements as his variations on "Paddy on the Turnpike, " being in G major and closer to the second tune. so if you looked for the tune & found the Gm Irish version you could suffer some momentary confusion , but mostly this would be s.t. you could overcome with listening and taking a deep breath or two ) but if one looks for certainty in the naming of tunes well it seems a long row to hoe

    You play absolutely beautifully and I love all of your videos, however, a quick word of note, this being a celtic tune, I would consider adding a roll on the opening E and B notes as it really brings out the rhythm of the tune. Mix this in with some slurs and grace notes and the tune will come to life. It just feels like a "classical" approach to this tune.

    Here's a fun detective story : I learned Stoney Point ,or Stony Point , from a book, "Appalachian fiddle." Many people play it differently , I discover a video "Wild Horses of Stoney point," which is similar. Well! If you look in a book called "the Phillips Collection," for Wild Horses, you find three tunes: "Wild Horses (A)", "Wild Horses (B)," & "Wild Horses (C)" a.k.a. : "Stoney Point" & "Pig Town Fling" -(of course) :) the book goes on to say "see the related: "Rich Mountain." If you liik at Rich Mountain, it is a tune very simukar to what Ian Walsh plays , which he calls what ? "Stoney Point"

    • @KatyAdelson
      @KatyAdelson  8 лет назад

      +Doug Nickerson Hi Doug! That's really interesting what you have discovered about the tune titles! It's quite a wide variation of name - Stoney point, to Wild Horses, to Rich Mountain! I think there is a lot of mix-up between tune titles and the actual tune, especially when they sound similar. I think the title and tune morphs a lot especially since a lot of them are played from memory and by ear. Sometimes I wonder if I'm posting the tune under a wrong title! =S Many times I've heard a tune in a jam, but knew it by a completely different name....or I'll recognize the melody, but when I ask for the tune's name, the group sometimes says a title I've never heard of before.. It's neat how much a tune can change over time and by region! Sometimes I wonder how some of the older tunes sounded 200 years ago. I wonder if the tunes sounded completely different, or if they still resemble each other. =)

    Hi, I'd really like to know how you bow this song. Your tempo is really fast, so you can't be playing single strokes for each note right? Do you play three notes per stroke?

    • @KatyAdelson
      @KatyAdelson  8 лет назад

      For the eighth notes, I usually do 3 separate and 3 slurred. Sometimes I change it up and slur both groups of 3 eighth notes. More and more I've been adding in stranger bowings where I'll do 4 separate and 3 slurred. This puts the next up-bow on an awkward note, but adds an interesting texture to the tune. ^_^
