  • Here is a tutorial for how to play Paddy on the Turnpike in G minor on the fiddle! I hope it helps you learn the tune! :D
    I tried to go over the tune slowly so we can all learn the notes by ear! =) This is a long tutorial, so I've added buttons so you can skip to the sections that you find the most helpful. I hit a few of the notes not quite in tune, but I hope you can forgive those! ^_^;;
    Quick Links:
    Demonstration: 00:56
    A Part Simplified: 02:41
    A Part: 06:57
    A Part Run-Through: 09:47
    B Part: 11:12
    B Part Run-Through: 14:56
    Entire Tune Played Slowly: 15:43
    Extra Ideas: 17:03
I played this tune with Tommy's Tarbukas in this Video: • Paddy on the Turnpike ...
Sheet Music Link (Click on the "Sheet Music" button below the ABC format; There's also a midi file! I played a g-minor version)
    thesession.org...
It's not quite the same as I've played here, but it's close!
I hope this tutorial is helpful! I feel a little awkward being an amateur making a tutorial, but it's all for fun! =)
Thank you for watching! I hope you have fun practicing! =D

I love your camera angle. It makes it so much easier to see your fingers move and I can still see your arm/wrist movement. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talents with us!!

"I feel a little awkward being an amateur making a tutorial." You are not an amateur!! You sound amazing and are able to bring soul and emotion into the violin, which is something I feel amateurs can't quite accomplish yet!! I love all of your videos and you really inspire me to keep pushing forward with the violin ^.^ You make me excited to play!! Everyone tells me "good luck, violin is hard," and kind of have a negative view towards it...but you're always telling people "it's a fun instrument to play" and you give a wonderful positive encouragement to playing the violin ^.^ Thank you for your music and videos!!! :D :D

+Lawrence Michael Yay! Thank you! =) The buttons are a bit difficult to set up on the video, but I was hoping they would make the tutorial a little more useful. I'm glad that the buttons have helped! ^_^

FYI and for what it is worth, it is actually in G Dorian which explains the E natural throughout. It is usually notated with one flat.

I'm in the process of trying to notate the melodies of these tunes. =) I have had so many things to do that it's been hard to keep up with everything, but hopefully I'll be able to post the sheet music sometime soon!

What is this tune for example a jig reel ?

  • @brendankeane5725

If you did not condescend to it, you might have felt the tune. Instead you stereotyped it and it sounds faker than fake.

Katy has a video of playing this elsewhere on the web, fully up to speed. Are you not a fiddler? This is a training video, and it is not meant to show her performance like she does live, and "soulful", as you indicated.
