Gorgeous, just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing the transition of that toyish model into a realistic scale model.

@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout so many layouts have out of the box cars and buildings. It drags your eyes right out of the scene against all the weathered freight cars.

@@B2Pproduction You're right. The tiniest thing can ruin the whole experience. For example, someone might have the coolest photo backdrop, but the seam has come loose and there is a gap. And now it is just a piece of paper... And I can't stop looking at it

@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout absolutely, and it's such a shame when something like that happens

Great job! Love how you clipped the bucket-tips ('tines') off -- something often overlooked! Flat "cutting-edges" are indeed popular in quarry settings for their ability to smoothly clean up the pit 'floor' and roads.

I would be neat the see some LED lights (0402s) atop the cab and you could probably 'carve' a a space below the engine for the battery. Just thinking aloud.

bill... great work !!! as we previously "discussed", you know i engineered the demolition of both nuclear and rx plants for well over 30 years, and i can say the loader looks real sharp !!! it has that nice dull patina to it we see prototypically in the field. is it fair to assume she will also do some salt loading and/or movement as well ??? as i am sure you know by way of your salt facility models, a touch-up of brown rust from salt eating away at her is a possibility !!! in real life, my bprr, and its parent company genesee and wyoming rr, haul tons of salt from the mine in retsof, n.y. ( which is getting close to where you grew up, but not quite, right ?)and the smaller hoppers look absolutely eaten away !!! some are so decayed you gotta wonder how they can still be in use !!! as always, your work motivates me to add the finer detail we see in your models, so maybe after making some of your korean wings and a few brewskis i will put pencil to graph paper and start some desk engineering in trying to attempt your weathering method !!! keep'em rollin', bill !!! denny

Thanks Denny! I really like that sun-bleached look too. The 2 salt facilities in Watkins Glen produce mainly food-grade product, not road salt. But she can earn her keep in Winter by moving snow ❄️⛄

@@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout bill... i am sure she will !!! many years ago we used crest toothpaste , diluted of course, to get that effect !!! luckily my family owned a drug store so we never ran out !!! i test ran 2 brand new british columbia rail engines today by athearn genesis and boy are they nice !!! bcrail is now owned by cn so it fits nicely into the layout. yes, i believe the retsof mine is road-grade salt... one of my future projects is to weather about 20 small 2 bay hoppers to look really deteriorated but that will be down the road a ways. my bprr's parent company, the genesee and wyoming, visits there regularly our of rochester, ny but you can see any orange and black liveries working there. as well, the ns has a big sand loading siding just south of buffalo at their bison yard which you can easily see as you pass over it on the nys thruway !!! there is almost always a string of 40-50 cars getting sand loaded, so the remaining 2 bays i have will work that job.... i am sure you know that they mix salt and sand for our winters up here, and i am quite sure some sand is used in the fracking industry as well. have a good evening !!! denny
