    bill... great work !!! as we previously "discussed", you know i engineered the demolition of both nuclear and rx plants for well over 30 years, and i can say the loader looks real sharp !!! it has that nice dull patina to it we see prototypically in the field. is it fair to assume she will also do some salt loading and/or movement as well ??? as i am sure you know by way of your salt facility models, a touch-up of brown rust from salt eating away at her is a possibility !!! in real life, my bprr, and its parent company genesee and wyoming rr, haul tons of salt from the mine in retsof, n.y. ( which is getting close to where you grew up, but not quite, right ?)and the smaller hoppers look absolutely eaten away !!! some are so decayed you gotta wonder how they can still be in use !!! as always, your work motivates me to add the finer detail we see in your models, so maybe after making some of your korean wings and a few brewskis i will put pencil to graph paper and start some desk engineering in trying to attempt your weathering method !!! keep'em rollin', bill !!! denny

      @@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout bill... ny&le runs at the bottom of armes hill, which was where our family farm ended back in the old days !! i ran thru the woods behind our house to see the el cross erie avenue from the woods above the tracks !!! our family was not only pharmacists for 4 generations, but they were real farmers at the same time !!! quite the combo, but true !!! btw, our local pub has korean bbq wings which are ok, but i am sure your "home made bombers" are much better !!! when i make my wings i buy a big tub of lard to deep fry them in and it makes a huge difference but is kind of a pain in the ass to use.... pretty cheap at the local walmart. here's another little trick....add butter to your franks hot sauce to coat your wings and when it comes to your bleu cheese ( only use maries in the refridgerated section... absolutely the best !!!) the night before add a splash of burgundy wine, stir and let it sit overnight, then let it come to room temperature before serving. back when i was in rx school i worked 1 semester at frank and tressas' anchor bar in buffalo which, as i am sure you know, is where chicken wings were "invented" as they are today. i am not sure why lard, butter, and a splash of burgundy wine do the trick, but it really makes a big difference !! btw, what is in your korean wing sauce ??? if it ain't a secret, send it along !!! blessings to you bill !! denny

    Lots of good ideas and experiments there... A few tips for you, that worked well for me. When gluing down the static grass tufts, spray/soak the area you're gluing them down to with Isopropyl Alcohol. That will allow the new Matte Medium that you're using to glue the tuft down with to soak into the dry scenery and bond better. After gluing a bunch down, spray all the newly installed tufts with some IPA, this will soften the Matte Medium that the static grass tufts are stuck to and allow it to melt into the new glue and the scenery underneath it. Using the ground clip does make a difference. I've forgotten to attach the clip many times and after wondering why the fibers weren't standing up as well as I thought they should, I realized I'd forgotten to attach the grounding clip. Instead of trying to tape down your parchment paper, buy a coated steel cookie tray and use small neodymium magnets to stick the parchment down with. Works a lot better than tape. The parchment won't move and stays put. Toss that attachment that they claim will concentrate the fibers into a smaller area... It inhibits optimum static charge/application of the static grass fibers. Not using it may mean more fibers everywhere you don't want them, but that's inherent in using static grass! Spraying Tamiya on the tufts to change the color is a great Boomer technique... The paint can also be used as an adhesive to make bushes. Spray your tufts, then sprinkle on some ground foam... Sticks pretty well and a lot better than hair spray. Again... Great ideas! I'd never thought about pinching longer fibers into the glue dots prior to applying the shorter static grass.

    • @MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout
      @MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout 22 дня назад

      Wow thanks man, that's the most helpful comment I've ever gotten! Going to add to my notes now. The magnet tip is huge. Gotta get some cheap cookie sheets at the dollar store. Mine are all aluminum. Taking a magnet with me lol!

    • @WHJeffB
      @WHJeffB 22 дня назад

      @@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout No problem! Hope they work out for you should you try them. One addendum on using paint as adhesive... You have to work fast. Tamiya thinned with IPA dries FAST. When I've used the paint to hold ground foam, I spray the tuft, then sprinkle on a little foam immediately. Because of the nature of the thinned paint, only a very little foam sticks to the fibers. If you are looking for thicker buildup of foam, definitely stick with brushed on Matte Medium! I still use that too, though I thin the Matte Medium 1:1 with water. Maybe it works fine un-thinned too, never really tried it that way. Other than the magnet trick... Using IPA on the ground area before and after gluing down the tufts is probably the best tip. Works surprisingly well!

      @@dennisarmes3473 Man thanks for this comment, it really made my day! I just turned 68 in July. I am a big believer in waiting for things to come to you. Could be in a pub, could be lying in bed in the middle of the night. If you try too hard and push on without it, the outcome won't be as good. Isn't retirement great!? Take care - Bill.

    Switch list looks pretty simple...I might have to put forth a little effort and incorporate those in my own ops before long. Thanks for the vid!

      I'm glad I started using a switch list, it keeps me honest. Otherwise I'm changing my mind half way through, or just plain forgetting what I was gonna do 🙄
