- Enjoy this virtual walking tour of NYC's Pennsylvania Station (Penn Station) in the borough of Manhattan, where I explore the busiest train station in the Western Hemisphere. It is located between 7th and 8th Avenues, and 31st and 34th Streets. It is completely underground. The station serves Amtrak, Long Island Railroad, and New Jersey Transit trains, with connections to PATH and the New York City Subway.

Great video. I went through Penn every day for years as a commuter. I hated the low ceilings, which I see still remain but it looks a great deal cleaner and at least a bit more welcoming.
You don't like low ceilings? Wow, I'm the opposite. High ceilings and vastness in general scare me.
@@LESBIANANDAUTISTIC I don't like these low ceilings as much as anyone else does. Feels a bit claustrophobic. Heck, my school hallways aren't this low.
So much Nostalgia. The bottom floor is being renovated now and barely recognizable to this.
That’s true. It does look different. Yes the video is nostalgic
I'm coming to New York for the first time ever! I hope see you videos prepares me a little so i know what to expect! Thank You
Haha, don’t spoil yourself too much!
Excellent video! I think you do a fine job of capturing not only the activity but the ambiance of the setting as well.
absolutely! we love ActionKid!
This was the last thing I saw of New York City right before I moved out of there. Lived there for 10 years until I move to buffalo ny I'd live for 3 years now I miss NYC dearly. The last train I took was the A then the Amtrak
Well you can still visit. I moved to Georgia and that’s even farther and I still visit NYC. Unless if your schedule doesn’t permit it
I LOVE I LOVE I LOVE NEW YORK CITY SUBWAY TRAIN STATIONS SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!! :-D
Then you’ll fall in love with Japanese cities because it’s more advanced
The new renovations to Penn Station are really nice but I miss the stores so much im hoping they come back soon
Can we, like, rebuild the old Penn Station? Please?
I don't believe that is possible. What was the Old Penn Station is now Madison Square Garden.
There is talk of demolishing Madison Square Garden and rebuilding Penn Station....
Hey, we still have like 2 archways in the LIRR waiting room from the old station. Be happy those are there still
Pennsylvania is a very historical state, so the idea of a "Penn station" was very cool, but now trains are losing popularity, and there is less use for stations like this one.
The destruction of the old Penn Station in the 1960’s was an abomination. It was so beautiful, and look at it now!
Amazing video. I went NYC this february, including Penn Station (from Newark Airport). Fantastic city. Greetings from Brazil.
Don't miss Penn too much since moving away from LI. Do miss Rose's Pizza, though. Had plenty a slice after Rangers games.
Best video of a NYP tour
Thank you for this video. I'm on crutches right now, and I need to see the layout to save myself some steps. Really helpful.
OMG! IT'S HUGE! Chicago Union Station seems so massive, but this place makes it seem beyond tiny! But of course, the Loop has 4 busy rail terminals whereas apparently the Big Apple only has 2.
Yeah New York has only 2 terminals and Chicago has 4 terminals around the Loop and Union is massive and huge and kept the great hall and is being renovated. New Yorkers are very upset at how they demolished the old penn station just as people in Chicago are very upset they did the same to the Chicago Northwestern Terminal in 1984!
@@PRHILL9696 That really stinks because those old stations are filled with over a hundred years of fascinating and exciting history! In my opinion, anything and everything historic should be preserved. Which actually reminds me of something very cool that happened not even a couple of years ago. One of the stations on Metra was a historic depot built nearly 120 years ago by the Rock Island Railroad. It was at risk of being demolished but what ended up happening is that the structure was taken completely out of the ground, relocated about 6 miles north of its original location, and is in the process of being turned into a museum. That was really cool not only because of how it was done, but also the fact that we have a very special nostalgic piece of history being preserved. It was all done through donations too. What really stinks is that this country seems to care about money way more than anything else, such as important history or the well being of we the people.
@@Ferrocarril_Chicago Very cool they did that! We miss the old Northwestern terminal we had so many childhood memories there and it was such a cool place but its long gone now. I did find some pics though which is nice
@@PRHILL9696 So I take it you too are from the Chicago area?
@@Ferrocarril_Chicago Oh yes I love it here!
What time was this recorded? When I go there I feel like the millenium falcon in a human asteroid field.
5:00 PM maybe? I don't really remember
@@ActionKid it must have been one of those errant tranquil winter weekends, maybe a Sunday. Although, I was there last week oct 21 at 3pm and it was packed
I heard a 7:03 pm train announcement
@@ActionKid 5 AM!! nobody there.
Thanks your video, penn station so large and complex.
Thanks
孙晓南 mj has b zzz kkuuuuuu
Should've done this at 5:00 p.m. so viewers get the TRUE experience! But I guess all you would have recorded would be someone's back
Trying to get out at 8 Am it's another experience!
ha ha!
You missed the homeless and the druggies!
“Through Pennsylvania Station one entered the city like a god. Perhaps it was really too much. One scuttles in now like a rat.” Vincent Scully
Damn I'll lose hella weight here 😂😂💀
It looks so complex! I'd love to explore it one day.
it's basically just the main concourse/waiting area off 7th av and a few side tunnels and then the tunnel to 8th av and the LIRR with a totally empty concourse you see at the end. in essence two stations connected by a tunnel.
I don't know how a station manages to be both big and small at the same time, but Penn Station somehow does it.
I can't begin to tell you how many time I was in this station during 1978 to 1991 thousands of times
By any standard of massive, it is massive!
Certainly, well lit!
Looks a LOT better than I remember ....must have made some improvements
Me too because penn station was amazing!
Now that is a Great Video ❤
Great footage, man! Dig it ;).
Thanks!
Grazie, è talmente grande che sembra l'ambientazione di un videogioco. it's so big that it looks like a video game setting
Great city
It looks nice and clean.
It's not actually,. Homeless people everywhere.
That’s a good one.
VolunteerEMS at wyandanch station on LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch homeless people were kicked out of the old station shelter that got demolished and forced to stay somewhere else. The new station shelter is locked at 2 pm to keep homeless people out when they come at around 5 pm to try to get in to the new nice looking shelter for passengers
Funny joke
I forgot just how dark and gloomy the LIRR concourse was before the major renovation. It looks way better nowadays.
The LIRR stations at Penn use NYC Subway signs? That's very special.
Yeh gotta help me! I feel a weird sense of pleasure in the LIRR concourse!
Out of all the areas in the station I hate the New Jersey Transit area the most. I use the LIRR mostly and there are definitely the least amount of homeless in the LIRR areas I find. If you wanna see the lowest of society go to the NJT area at 1am after all the last trains leave. It’s a whole different world. It’s sad to see but it’s completely out of control.
Would it be safe to say that someone who has trouble walking up and down steps would have trouble getting around the station?
They would have trouble, but the station itself is fully accessible.
Brenda Payne Yes, yes and yes!
En la puerta 34 de Penn Station, se fotografió la banda Anthrax para la contratapa de su album "Among the Living" lanzado hoy 22 de Marzo de 1986.
Nice I didnt knew the last Part of the LIRR conection but I dont see any TVM machines :s are they ?
You can catch a glimpse of the LIRR ticket machines at 13:35 on the right. These machines are the only ones in this new section (the West End Concourse) which opened to the public last summer--i walk through here 5 days a week.
Ohh yes thanks I see, and also see a homeless sleeping :S , thanks
I want to go to Philadelphia from Pennsylvania station when I visit New York, I’m worried I’ll get lost any tips?
I’m pretty sure Amtrak goes there. Just ask around in the station! You can also get a bus from the Port Authority bus terminal.
Amtrak, trains pretty much hourly.
It’s easy to get to Philly from penn station
Terrified the Winchester Grayson couple are going to miss their Metro-North train, they quickly hopped on with 5 seconds to spare at Penn Station after they arrived.
You should do THE BIG APPLE Aka GRAND CENTRAL if you dare
Yup, there's a video of me walking through Grand Central too.
actionkid105 oh ok its like a hell hole over there during rush hour
Was that final section a newer concourse for the LIRR?
You stepped on the gas at 4:40!
Within about a year or two we should know the fate of Penn Station. It seems the odds are getting better for a reconstruction of the old Penn Station what with the MSG running it's lease out in 2023 and the desperate need for a new Garden elsewhere in the city, and the pending decision on what will happen to 2 Penn Plaza (tear it down or re-model it). The incredible increase in traffic from Amtrak, LRR, and NJT is making the hall burst at the seems, and track infrastructure is so messed up that the recent rebuild amounted to no improvement. Either the Northeast Corridor will remain relevant to commuters into and out of NYC, or it won't. Good luck commuting into and out of Manhattan if Penn Station isn't rebuilt within the next 8-10 years.
I always figured Grand Central was the busier station but I guess Penn gets the airport traffic.
Grand Central has Metro-North and 5 subway lines. Penn Station has Amtrak, PATH, Long Island Railroad, NJ Transit, and 6 subway lines. Although Grand Central has 67 tracks, and Penn Station only has 21, Penn Station is almost 4 times busier than Grand Central.
I saw this exact comment on a video of a Grand Central walk-through, so I'm here to bring it to a walk-through of Grand Central's former rival/superior.
"That's a lotta NPC's."
9:50 Thank you for your service!!
They're awesome!
I’d love if they brought back the Starbucks & shake shack, pharmacy, au bon pan
I did 10-15 years commuting in that shit hole (Oside to Penn) ..its been 20 since I been back..Dont miss it at all
Is this the old one or the one they just built
The old station
I hate how the LIRR portion of penn station looks now, it has lower head room and everything is shut down and more narrow
You skipped Amtrak & NJ Transit
Yeah, I totally skipped them over.
Is there any accessible way to use this station?
Yes there is but I wouldn’t know where the access points are.
very nice penn station
No buddy,it might look cool to you (which is fine) but not for everyone else who has to scuttle through it's Minecraft third block roof.
Bery good
What a confusing maze
I think l will be lost tomorrow 😂😂
Omg I miss New York City
SERIOUSLY?! What do you miss? The noise? The obnoxiously dense crowd of rabid frantically frenetic pedestrian fanatics who stubbornly insist on getting to the next corner or traffic signal in the most reckless rude manner possible? Or do you miss the grotesquely high priced items, or repressive taxes peppered by the high cost of existence? I don't know why normal sane folks, if they have other options, would come to live in that Overpriced, Over-hyped and Overcrowded Dystopic Urban Behemoth.
If you live in a small town or moderate sized city with decent respectful people, then you live in paradise.
@@privacyseekr relax

Stop it!
You're making me homesick.
😂
privacyseekr I love nyc I ain’t never leaving love the action the noise the cluster fuck of incoherent Tourists taking pictures in the middle of a cross walk with 10,000 people behind them. Love it love it love it.
@@privacyseekr it has its issues but people still like it,
Amtrak level?
At 11:04 the stairs to your left will take you to the Amtrak level.
@@privacyseekr thank you!
Where are all the homeless people i read about in the reviews of this place?
They’re still around, just not at the time I recorded this video.
Soo.. you dont have to pay to get into the train?
Yes you do, through a Ticket Machine or a Booth.
@@michaelmorales1475 Who checks the ticket before you board the train?
10:00 This is the area where I got beaten up for filming an elevator for my channel
DOWN WITH THAT TERRIBLE SECTION!!!!!!!
master
This is a lot for underground
its really two seperate stations connected by a tunnel (that is my impression from being there twice anyway).
Well it’s all underground technically.. though in its original form there used to be more light and open areas
👋👍📹✌
*This video just made me angry, considering what was lost and what the city has had to put up with for so long.* I've been to bad stations, but this one is just a retrofitted basement and an affront to both rail travel and architecture. Not to mention a huge, corporate middle finger to the people of this city!
How big is Penn Station?
Yuge.. massive
Hells half acre.
I loved riding Amtrak.
Walking in circles wtf
50 years later, still scuttling in like rats.....
As much as I love the Garden, the demo of old Penn Station was not worth it.
So i guess stay the fuck at home don't mean shit?
