When I played the Doom games as a kid I was obsessed with getting monsters to fight each other but it was often such a pain in the ass to setup the fights. I even tried to figure out how to make my own levels but wasn't able to figure it out. Even today when playing Doom 64 I like to try and get monsters to infight just to observe. This channel is like a dream!
Have you tried binding keys? Try to put in the doom console bind (any key) "summon (any monster)" With that, you'll be able to summon monsters quickly and without opening the console constantly.
6:43 very satisfying to see the plasma bolts fire in currents like this. interesting also that they tend to zero in on the same target with some exceptions. good to see two of Doom's best projectile snipers battle
Unless you know this one, you can use decorative objects like Torches Lamps etc to hide behind and all projectile attacks will be blocked while Hitscan goes through them
@@normanred9212 Not in vanilla Doom, and not with the correct compatibility flags enabled. Decorations are only obstacles to actor movement, they do jack against projectiles.
Luckily there are ways to tweak the Spiderdemon and make her an absolute menace. No need to add projectiles or flight or nothing, all you need is to decrease her reaction time from the insane half-second (15 tics!) that, I should add, repeats every single time she gets a pain state.
To other monsters at long range and in numbers sure, but vs. the player the mastermind is more of a threat, it's pretty easy to dodge an arachnotrons projectiles but impossible to dodge a wall of hitscan.
What I find really interesting is the way the Arachnotrons concentrate their fire upon a single target. You can see it even with the Ultra Violence stats. They seem to all choose the same target. Compared to the other monsters, they seem to show the most coordination.
They are both resistant to explosive damage, pain chance is ok as is given how fast they can kill a player but a secondary attack wouldn't be too bad, maybe a chance for the cyberdemon to fire a homing rocket with weaker homing than the revenant, and the spider mastermind could get some telekinesis type thing wherein it periodically marks you like the arch vile and whilst marked its rounds are much much more accurate, and then give them both massive damage melee attacks, something like the bosses from Duke nukem so if a player gets too close they die
No, there's nothing wrong with the passive stats of either boss demon. The only thing the Spiderdemon needs is a shorter reaction time. Cybie is super well balanced in all areas already.

Cyberdemon: Doonguy, may I barrow your plasma rifle?? I need 2 of that. Both CD and Arachnotrons had bigger size. In UV difficult, they'd like to move around, but may block their own teammates fire; in NM difficult, Arachnotrons didn't moved, most of them can firing freely.
The problem with these sustained attack enemies is they don't have the sense to move around and get a clear shot. Chaingunners are even worse, because they end up killing each other and thinning their own ranks.
Just the mob I was curious about which brings me to my question, nothing to do with the fight but how much damage does the Arachnotrons plasma it shoots do? Does it do more than the DOOM guys Plasma Rifle? Or equal? Or less? I always thought it might be more powerful than the DOOM guys Plasma Rifle
@@Sicklxy that’s cool now I don’t know about you but I thought that would be cool if we could use their Plasma and not just the DOOM guys, cause why not either use green or blue that’d be sick I know there’s a mod Brutal DOOM that let’s you rip the Revenants Rocket Launcher off and use it and the Mancubus Flame Cannon too and let’s say you get 50Plasma Energy to use, this doesn’t have to be like a helpful game changer or anything I thought it would just be cool though you would get more ammo from the Arachnotrons along with the Plasma Cells and boxes full of Plasma
UV, too frequent cases of Arachnotrons getting in the way of their own kind's fire that cost them the majority of their matches. Nightmare, more aggressive Arachnotron firing was too much for Cyberdemons to handle.
A big part of it is that the cybers, especially at distance, pump way more rockets at an arachno than is needed to kill it and only retarget once it’s actually dead. On nightmare because a lot of the cybers don’t get aggroed by different arachnos they keep iterating to the same next enemy. By the time they’re all targeting different ones and spreading out their fire they’re pretty much dead. Also because nobody’s really moving the cyber’s splash damage is basically useless. But even if that were addressed the arachnotron is just too damn powerful.

a bit biased towards arachnatrons, this one. they're spread out, so they don't take any splash, and they're far away, so cyberdemons overkill a LOT, plus they all have a clear line of sight with their target. later on they even start with a surround from even further away. that's their ideal scenario

I think that’s how it is with Doom 64 - they have double the firepower, and the plasma rifle that you use seems to have been slowed down considerably.

My exact though, Spiderdemon equipped with that clunky minigun, while these arachnotrons have a way effective weapons.

Problem for mastermind is how easy it is for an enemy to break its attack. It's got a huge, clunky hitbox

That's because of AI routines and the limited RNG.
The enemies are numbered internally so they just go up the list each time they kill something

There is a lot of friendly fire on the cyberdemon side. I guess because the arachnotrons have bigger brains. Love these vids!

whats more scary is that NM arachnotrons DON'T waste time kill staggering one target unlike the UV stats where they just scatter targets
