    Guuuuuys, I've seen alot of these videos. With all these tricks to make the latency a little bit better.. my genious mind figured out that u just need to go to prefrences, look for 'driver error compensation' and what ever is the latency write that but with a - minus and press enter, problem solved, f.eks 46 ms latency. Enter -46. Worked for me. Hope this fixes ur problem

    It turns out I've been learning to play keys for 7 years with 56 ms of latency. Dropped buffer size to 64 - now it's 11 ms, almost unnoticeable. Thank you!

    I have a different menu altogether, probably from the new ableton update. Instead of just "buffer size," I see "Input Buffer Size" and it doesn't let me go below 216. There are no more options, you just scroll up and down like a meter. I'm bewildered here.

    20 years ago, I stopped using Midi controllers because of Latency but back then, I had a modest PC... A few days ago, I got a Roland A-49 Midi controller and it comes with an Ableton Lite 11 license. I installed it on my 5500$ system that I got last spring for Video, 3D production and Flight Simulation. I though that the 32GB of DDR4 RAM with an i9 10900K CPU overclocked to 5.3GHZ and a couple of SSD Drives should be a joke for the Midi thing... But I was horrified with the Latency I can't fix... Because if I put the buffer below 800 something, I hear noise and distortion... At 800 it is OK but the latency is still annoyingly there... So I am not sure this has to do with how much RAM or CPU one has, because my system can handle way more complex things than a piano plugin in a DAW... I believe the way the program(s) are coded and how it deals with the system hardware is the thing... Or the problem?

    • @TitiMiscione
      @TitiMiscione 2 года назад

      800 hundred is still a monstrous buffer size.

    • @caogomi
      @caogomi 3 месяца назад

      also from something i understand, a lot of the software is stuck essentially using one core of your processor, so if you can get an app to route system resources to other cores than what the daw wants to use, it can help a lot, but i have only read about this and not tested it myself

  • @chrisliddiard725

    Thanks for the tip, didn't realise buffer size affected midi latency, but you're right it does appear to. It could though be the delay before you hear the audio from the virtual instruments processing the midi.

    Thank you for this video. As someone who records with Ableton Live as well, I've learned that assuming a fairly fast computer (3 Ghz or faster) and enough RAM (8 Gig or higher), there is a fourth reason for audio latency other than the most discussed three (too high buffering size; too low sampling rate; unfrozen tracks): TOO MANY TRACKS! Yes, when I get more than 12-15 tracks, latency starts to creep in. My personal solution since I can't sing well with latency of anything bigger than maybe 20 milliseconds for the vocal track is start a NEW Set! Mix down all your tracks except for the vocal track (if you had one), put it into your new Set, and now you should have no latency for as many vocal takes as you need to create the perfect vocal track (typically, 3 or 4 takes). Once you have your vocal track, export it somewhere, delete the Set you used, and re-insert that vocal track into the set that had so many tracks that you suffered audio recording latency. This is not really that big a headache, but it is a workaround that I use for such instances when I have over 15 tracks....

    Hi! I changed my buffer sizes to 512 (in) and 1200 (out) and have still a huge annoying latency via midi. I'm using Win 10, a Yamaha YC73 and it's Steinberg usb driver. The delay between the YC73 and a VST in Ableton feels like 100 to 200ms. My CPU is bored by max 5% even when I hit a lot of key at the same time (Intel i7, 4GHz, 32GB). I had the same issue using an Arturia masterkeyboard and Arturia Analog Lab. Other midi devices at the midi out of YC73 or a Msterkeyboard reacts instantly. Any idea?

    So... where to start.
    First, the meter up in the corner is just the CPU, if you had an issue then you had a bottle neck, upgrading RAM should not, if your not bottle neck, improve the load on your cpu.
    Next, just upping the buffer without also increasing the sample rate is going to do nothing to improve the situation, unless your experiencing stutter, and in that case, why would you play with crappy nasty glitches and stutter?
    Finaly what about Driver Error Compensation? You dont adress it at all?
