Aaaaaand.... I have another favorite cooking channel now. Instant subscription, thank you so much for this lovely content!
I love how wholesomely you present it and that you give translations for stuff happening in the background, rather than cutting it all out and redoing shots. It's a lot more authentic and immersive that way. Actually feels like I was part of your morning by being able to peek over your shoulder and learn that way.
This is exactly what I hoped to find, an authentic Japanese cooking channel with someone who prioritizes showing what they do for themselves rather than putting on an extravagant show (not that I don't like the cooking channels that are about a good show)

Years ago when there were meetings in NYC, I stayed at a Japanese-owned hotel. The breakfast was a miso soup, beautiful piece of grilled salmon topped with a raw egg, a side of hijiki, a perfect bowl of rice, and (I think) pickled ginger. An amazing peaceful, high protein, nourishing start to my day. Such a change from a hurried cup of coffee and a bagel. It was the best breakfast I ever had, and brings happiness after more than 20 years.

I wake up at 5:25 and go to work at 6:20, and in that time window I put on clothes, do my hair, clean glasses or do my lenses in, make breakfast, eat and brush teeth.
I think I can manage the rice with some nori shredded on it and miso soup (mayby do some prep the evening before) and I have some kombu tsukudani from making the vegetarian dashi broth.
So that leaves some simple pickled vegetable (I'm not living in a city so I can't get these exotic Japanese items too much nor do I have the budget for it) so I guess some grated celery, carrot, a mix of the two or some sliced pickled will do? I've got some fruit so I think I've got the majority of a healthy breakfast now: The rice, miso soup, something pickled and some fruit. So that leaves me with one thing: A substitute for the grilled fish.
Tamagoyaki can be eaten a few times, but I don't know how healthy it is to eat this mix of two eggs on a daily basis..I need some other recommendations of fast and cheap dishes to substitute the grilles salmin, do you have any ideas?

    • @dennisengelen2517

Congrats on the eldest starting his schooling! I hope he has fun and learns all the things! That means it will just be you and the youngest one now right? I found Miso soup base bottles at my local store, not the tubes like you show but almost like a sauce bottle you can keep in the fridge, it appears to already be dissolved. . There were several kinds. I grabbed one that seemed the most basic and tried it this morning. It was pretty good. I think I did a bit too much chicken broth, it's all I had on hand, but no complaints. I'll see if I can upload a picture of it on Instagram. My morning pre-covid has changed much to be honest. I do quite a bit of my "morning" stuff in the evening, mainly getting my fiance's uniforms put away and his things gathered up so he can quite literally run out the door at the last minute. In the morning, I'll either make him something fresh, or pack him leftovers from the dinner the night before. Otherwise, the rest of my morning is spent tending our three dogs, washing up dishes, or picking up the house around doing my course work for my degree.

    • @MiwasJapaneseCooking
      @MiwasJapaneseCooking  3 года назад +2

your miso paste sounds pretty convenient! it might be already diluted with the water. I saw one in the supermarket but never have tried it before! I'm going to supermarket today so make sure to take a look!
it's ideal to get most of the house work done the night before! Somehow I'm not capable enough for that, no wonder my morning is packed! haha

I recently started with these kind of exercises in the morning :) Need to wake up early before my 7 year old wakes up and the school rush begins. You have a dishwasher? you're so lucky, I never had one. Still wash everything by hand for more then 15 years now.
I'll try this carrot soup sometimes. Miso and carrot soup, never thought about that combination :) though I eat carrot with miso dip hahaha I have a very simple one where I just steam carrot in microwave, and blend it with (soy)milk for a quick potage style soup with some salt or bouillon powder. My daughter likes it for every meal. The carrot egg looks great as well. I always have carrot matchstick in the freezer for easy cooking so I can make this quickly in the morning.

ohh. does it mean living in Germany cost more?? I'm sure all the Asian ingredients will be a lot more expensive there... I love the bread you have though! In Japan, we don't have much option for bread with hard skin. just like a sour dough bread! 😭 Thank you for your comment!!!

@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Not quite, fruit and vegetables are mostly available in Germany for good prices, but Asian ingredients often cost much more in Germany than in Japan or the USA. And a lot is not available at all. An American acquaintance had given me a few recipes and then meant, I could get the ingredients for about 10 dollars from the Asia store. In the German Asia store I didn't get one ingredient at all and the others would have cost me €43.76 ($52.60) in total. Even more with the missing ingredient.
If you want German bread (well, any of the 3,000+ types of bread available here) and you have the recipe and ingredients, you could bake it yourself. More and more Germans in my circle of acquaintances are doing that.

Or south africa. Some ingredients are expensive. We dont have street food markets. We have the luxury to plant most veggies and fruit. Thats a perk.

Our Chinese Supermarket in Bruma, Johannesburg, has a huge range of Asian products including dried Shrimp for soup stock. Very affordable, some are dirt cheap. It's only the dried Shitake that is pricey.

$4 is expensive for a home cooked breakfast. Eggs on toast would cost 75p. And that’s free range eggs.
Even if I have a superfood breakfast it still would only come to £2 max.
    Looks great though.

I LOVE that your culture doesn't have "breakfast food" like here in the USA. We've been gradually transitioning to Asian style menus and have come to love, pungent, savory and flavorful foods for breakfast and all day. Side dishes have added so much variety to our diet and weight maintenance has become effortless. We've even embraced natto!!! It's no surprise that the USA is the fattest and sickest country in the world. Our food and eating habits are killing us. Thank you for sharing your cultural foods with us!!!!!
