Runcam Thumb Pro Tiny FPV Drone Camera - Is it Worth it?!

  • Honest review of this little camera. It's tiny and small, fits on to almost all FPV quads you can think of and it shoots 4k, collects gyro data for third party stabilization in GyroFlow. But how well does it actually do?
    If this camera can do what they say it does, and with how the footage looks, it will be a great addition to any FPV drone out there, and for the price you just can't beat it... If it stands up to the hype.
    These tests were done all in 4k. I will be releasing another video where I do the same thing but in 2.7k to see if it changes the results.

    At the beginning of your video I could see the anguish being portrayed. I’m telling you as a fellow FPV brother you are not alone! The pain you are feeling though has been endured by all of us afflicted by this hobby. Get used to it… You are hooked and it’s a life sentence with no chance for parole 😉🙏

      Oh yeah no doubt! But when the persistence pans out you really feel like you accomplished something, and when that happens it feels great. For me at least

    don't depend on stabilization. tune quads to best ability and #noStab
    (not saying it's easy; i've had good tunes that jello'd the next flight, so 🤷‍♂)

      I couldn’t agree more. However I suck at tuning lol. And the stabilization is to handle all the unknown variables, winds, slightly bent prop, etc…

      I agree on tuning a quad to the best of its abilities. Then add on all the fluff to come up with epic 🤩

      just go with stock pids only do rpm filter and you get any quad flying butter smooth, side effeckt longer flight times. bardwell has a nice video how to do that plus some outher really helpful settings.

    hhhmmm, its quit funny cause i dont have any issues at all. im aktually blown away how good it works with the thumb pro and gyro flow. i use stock settings and use the 2.7k res profil. im making a quick video from somthing i stabelized today all stock. give me 1h and ill share the link here. and maybe ill make a video about how i set it up. just saying maybe the way the cam is mounted gets too many noise vibration. ore maybe youre quad needs better tune. my quad flyes butter smooth with rpm filter ect.

    About the tune, I once intentionally added vibration to my craft to cancel out the camera's software internal vibration. Its kind of like using rolling shutter to make a helicopter's blades stop in midair. These freaky things.Never trust any company's proprietary code, no matter how trivial it is.

    im rendering at the moment its at 50%. its longer then i wanted it to be, but i left all kinds of situations. original colergrading and so on. only stock settings in gyroflow and the stock preset.

      Nice! I have been watching the Gyroflow discord and some of the devs have found that it drops a frame every 937 frames in 2.7k and every 1000 frames with 4k

    the video is beeing uploaded. it might take 1h until 4k is ready, depending on how fast youtube is ;-). and like i said its raw fotage with original sound, so nouthing spezial just renderd with gyroflow standard settings and thumb pro profil. it is just 4 demonstation, i left some scens in that i usauly wouldent so you can see what to expect. here the link.

      it is still taking time for youtube to chang it to 4k. ok it was 7gb. but no worrys its getting thair ;-).

      Here is the link, there are three files, these are designed for if you have a recording that the runcam puts in multiple videos.     i have same problem... the jello is so annoying for me... tomorrow i will try different tuning with my quad...

      my best results i got from rpm filter. its easy to do with 32bit esc. but you can get it done on all esc but 4 thoes you will have to donat to get the tool necesary. hope that helps happy flying.

      @@falz ​ @Pfälzer FPV i use 32bit esc... i have try to softmounting my motor with electrical tape and re-tuning my filtering and PID, and this afternoon i flew my quad and finally the jello is gone!

      @@FebyKristianto good work. but really try rpm filter, it helps a loot.i have my motors strait to the frame ;-) video is now in hd and almoast in 4k

    I tried usimg the latest gyroflow too in my runcam orange. And it was jerky too...

    crow wing fpv i just noticed that you have 28 sync points, thats way tooo many. you only need 3. i cant say if thats the problem but it shurly is one of them. at 15:57 min, is what i mean. i only have 3 yellow markers after i autosync

      Yeah I have tried it multiple times with different sync points. Do you know the firmware version you are running on the thumb? Seems 1.16 got better stabilization results than 1.17 and 1.18

      @@CrowWingFPV i have stock firmware on it but got it about 5 days ago. im using gyroflow version 1.1.0. maybe you have a diferent version. ore try to download gyroflow fresch and keep all settings stock only load the thumb profie and then hit 1 time autosync then it schould be fine. but if thats bad maybe it is youre firmware on the thumb ore youre quad is a tick to noisy. for that you could do rpm filter, it does wonders. my video is ready but youtbe is still upgrading it to 4k.

      Yeah that looks pretty good. I might have to reflash the firmware to an older version and try it out. I am tested with latest stable of GyroFlow, and a Nightly (dev) build, tried with stock settings, tried with custom settings, etc.. Thanks for linking the example.
