    I guessed which one was the Thumb Pro. I think the reddish tint on white walls gave it away.

    • @TRONCATFPV
      @TRONCATFPV  2 года назад +11

      The thumb definitely has a more pink hue while the GoPro has a blueish hue.
      Also has a slightly more narrow FOV than the GoPro.
      I think both could ultimately be color corrected to look very similar though.

    • @Vousie
      @Vousie 2 года назад +5

      @@TRONCATFPV I picked it from the slight stutters - as if the stabilisation didn't quite work as well on the thumb compared to the gopro. Also from the "flat colour" being a bit less flat on the thumb (i.e. it was more contrasty).

    I crashed my regular runcam thumb and was glad to learn it was repairable, and you can even (re)adjust the focus, even though they kinda try to glue it in place.
    Being prone to crashes is another reason to go with this as a cheaper alternative to GoPros.

    • @TRONCATFPV
      @TRONCATFPV  2 года назад +3

      Very good to know! I haven’t crashed it yet but it’s good to know you can adjust those minor things if you need to.

    Wow. Just wow. I just got mine in the mail yesterday, I got the thumb pro w, with the wider FOV. I have a naked hero6, and it's been a journey to keep that thing working. Been through 4 BEC boards, printing so many anti jello mounts for it. I've got 3 different mounts printing at my house right now for the thumb. One for my toothpick 3s build, 1 for my 450g AUW 5" beast, and one for the geprc cinelog 25. I did not guess the correct camera based on footage. I saw jello in the left one in the very beginning of the flight before it went through the door and thought that had to be the runcam. Super impressed.

    Great comparison. For the price point the Runcam4K dominates the naked gopro. The only thing I noticed was some jitters with the Runcam. I wonder if you can fix that with some type of rolling shutter filter in post.

    • @TRONCATFPV
      @TRONCATFPV  2 года назад +3

      Yea I think the gyro on the thumb is a little more sensitive to micro vibrations than a GoPro.

    • @dronemacha
      @dronemacha 2 года назад +5

      @@TRONCATFPV i might be wrong, but i realize runcam's gyro data's timing isn't uniform trough out a video, therefore we need more sync points on gyroflow. Those vibrations while going up the stairs, that immediately confirmed me which one was the runcam, that's what slight gyro data offset looked to me. Anyways man, that was some incredible slow controlled flight, even as a fpv pilot, you made me wonder if you shot the video handheld until you flew of the window...

    I am not familiar with either camera, but am looking to buy hence my watching videos like this.
    I am only at the 8 minute mark of the video and I like both of these, except I prefer the image on the right, strictly because the white balance is warmer. This should be a minor tweak, so lemme ask do either of these have a white balance setting that could have been adjust prior to shooting?
    Addendum:
    I found my answer later in the video. Yeah the white balance can be adjusted in the settings.
    I saw no difference in quality of videos so I want a runcam thumb pro, since it is a fraction of the price.

      I'm probably going to have an update video coming out within the next couple weeks on the Avata. I continuously find myself not using my Avata for numerous reasons. Hey, I have been flying a runcam thumb pro for a few months now based on reviews like this. Flying side by side with my naked Hero 8, my Hero 8 is a million billion times better image quality, better stabilization, and easier to get good results in post production. My use case has been outdoors freestyle. I have really wanted it to work for me and have tried everything imaginable. Normal modes crop too much and gyro flow crops even more, and xview modes are fish eye warped, and correcting it in post is extra work and subpar results. Stabilization I cannot get right, even after months of effort and many trials. And the image quality is simply no comparison. Clarity, dynamic range, and lens effects are so much nicer on the Hero 8. Seeing reviews like this has made me feel like I don't know who or what to believe anymore. Not worth the trouble for me. I need a real camera. Too many awkward compromises makes it unusable in most circumstances.
