  • In this video I check out the Boya BY-PM700 USB microphone for Mac, Windows and mobile devices.
    This convenient plug and play microphone delivers professional sounding audio and is ideal for podcasting, RUclips videos, conferencing and live streaming.
    In this video I also go over some of the differences between the PM 700 and the smaller PM500 and provide audio samples of both microphones.

    I did not realise that BOYA has such microphones instead of only the lapel type. Looks very in the design of the Blue Yeti . Looks good and sounds good from the review you are providing, and the sound that is coming out from the video. I love the review! Should I get a pop filter for this to sound better? Does it also comes with noise cancellation features? Thank you!

    • @Touchtechnologyreview
      @Touchtechnologyreview  8 месяцев назад +1

      You will only need a POP filter if you get up very close to the Mic. I tend to keep it at around 15 20cm distance and rarely POPs. However for voice over work where you need to get close or if you have a noisy room the closer you get the better so a POP filter would be great. As for noise reduction they do not have any noise reduction filters built in, you can do that in your software.

    I've been using this microphone for about 2 years now, and it's great. But the biggest problem is that any small movement of the USB cable will cause it to disconnect. Plus, the cable that they give you in the box is not long enough for gaming desktop users, meaning you will need to buy a longer cable separately.

    Thanks for the great reviews. Kindly help me with the two questions below.
    Can the PM500 and PM700 be used as studio mics?
    Secondly, do you have a review on the PM700SP?

    • @Touchtechnologyreview
      @Touchtechnologyreview  3 года назад +3

      Well it depends on how you want to set up your studio. Most times if you are interfacing with other audio products you would want an XLR microphone instead and use a sound card or audio recorder with enough inputs for multiple microphones and instruments. It can be difficult to connect more than one USB microphone to a computer. You can do it on a Mac with the Audio/Midi software but no sure on PC. In terms of quality XLR mics are still generally better but it is hard to tell the difference as these USB mics sound so good now. I haven't reviewed the PM700SP as yet.

    • @Touchtechnologyreview
      @Touchtechnologyreview  2 года назад +4

      I do prefer the PM 700. I like the larger size which makes it sit up closer to the vocal. In terms of actual audio quality almost the same really. If anything I notice that the PM700 has a little more definition in the bass tones and seems to have clearer tops with less sibilance. For podcasts and narration it is better, but for basic streaming and conferencing it would be hard to even notice the difference....

      Yes I think it is a great sounding USB microphone suitable for voice over. Very clean accurate sound and sounds even better with a bit of EQ. Yes a POP filter is a good idea especially when getting close to the mic. You can get them online for anywhere from $10-$30. Depending on the clamp of the POP filter you may find it doesn't sit very well on the stand that comes with the PM700 so you may also consider a desktop stand or boom arm at some point.

    If i record video in a room with my mobile can it still cover quality sound within 1-2 meters range.Thanks

    • @Touchtechnologyreview
      @Touchtechnologyreview  3 года назад

      It can depend on the acoustics of the room. But as a general rule if you can hold the phone as close as 30 - 50cm away in selfie vlog style the audio sounds quite decent. Not too much room noise or reverb. However from my experience as soon as you to to 1m or 2m away which is the distance you want when doing face to camera videos it can quite often have too much reverb and sound quite bad. So I always use a microphone for shooting any type of video or podcast.

The other thing that I can tell you is that the headphone pre-amp is much softer on the PM700 so if you are monitoring with headphones directly out of the mic the Fifine was better at that. But if you are monitoring from headphones in a computer it's not an issue.

      Yes but you will need to use the Apple usb to lighting connection which you can purchase from Apple for around $49. It has a lighting port connection on one and and a USB type A port on the other. You can then plug the Boya into the USB A connection and your iPhone will recognise the Boya as the microphone...

  • @nonanon666
    @nonanon666 2 года назад

    700 sounds like it has a distinctly better bass response than the 500 - at least through my headphones, which are bassy - but the product listings I'm looking at here in New Zealand say the 700 is 16 bit and the 500 is 24 bit... I would suspect that's a typo, but the 700 has four polar patterns crammed into it versus the two of the 500, so maybe bit depth is where they sacrificed?
    These are clearly newer-gen versions I'm browsing, because connectivity has been upgraded from the USB-micro you've shown here to USB-C.

    Hi! Can you share which one is better. Boya pm700 or Samson Q2U? Mainly for podcasting

    • @Touchtechnologyreview
      @Touchtechnologyreview  2 года назад

      I haven't tested the Samson Q2U so can't say for sure. It is a different style of Mic being dynamic rather than studio condenser which has a different sound.

    Hi. I've used two earphones to monitor the sound of my BOYA BY-PM700, but nothing comes out of my earphones. What should I do?

    • @Touchtechnologyreview
      @Touchtechnologyreview  2 года назад

      If you have plugged your headphones into the Boya 3.5 input for headphone monitoring, you have to check the setting on your operating system and make sure you select Boya PM700 as the audio output.

    • @vanrencekeh8935
      @vanrencekeh8935 2 года назад

      @@Touchtechnologyreview Yes. I can actually hear the sound coming from my laptop, but I can't hear the sound from my microphone as if it doesn't have monitoring.

    • @Touchtechnologyreview
      @Touchtechnologyreview  2 года назад

      @@vanrencekeh8935 That would meant that you haven't set the output on your laptop to be the Boya. So go in to settings. Look for audio output and change it to the Boya BYPM700.

      It's all set, both input and output. What I'm worried about is that... it works on the sound coming from my laptop. For instance, I can watch your videos on RUclips and listen while my microphone is plugged in and with my earphones on. But, when I voice over or sing, I can't hear my voice. 😭

      @@vanrencekeh8935 Oh I see what you mean. That sounds like the mic audio is no routing through. Strange. Have you adjusted the volume for the headphones can you hear any thing at all. Or no sound?

    Is it just me or there's not much significant difference between the 500 and 700?

    • @Touchtechnologyreview
      @Touchtechnologyreview  3 года назад +1

      You know what I thought the same as the 700 was a larger Mic I thought it would be noticeably better sounding. However to me the do sound very close.

      @@ioannescianus1831 Thanks so much greatly appreciated. Will keep them coming. I just used the BM 700 Yesterday when shooting my latest two videos for the channel. I applied some EQ and compression and removed some echo and sounds pretty nice. ruclips.net/video/d3o22XHK8s4/видео.html
