Great conversation. I was in Bratislava last year - some excellent vegan restaurants and bars, including a sushi bar called ŠMAK in the old town!
Sushi is not vegan if it contains fish.

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude as far as is possible and practicable all forms of exploitation of and cruelty to animals for food, clothing, entertainment or any other purpose.
If you are against torturing animals you must be vegan or live as a hypocrite.
It sounds like you don't care about hurting animals, the majority of humans are also just like you.

I think your interviewee from Slovakia made a valid assertion about encouraging (maybe that's what she meant) more of a plant based diet rather than all out being a vegan. The problem though is that we will probably end up with a large proportion of people saying:' I only eat a bit of meat', or I only eat birds at Christmas...

You should come over to Taiwan one day - I could do with someone to help me with outreach out here. There's so few Vegans. There are some but they tend to be Daoist monks & nuns....
Thank you for the comment joy :) I agree with what you say. I try to advocate for nothing less than veganism, as I believe this should be the ethical baseline, and people may not abstain from all animal products immediately but I think that is better than advocating for a bit more plant-based as that dilutes the message.
Dont worry! I give the option if people are in a financial situation to support me but I wouldnt want anyone to if it would make their lives any harder. Just the kind comment is plenty encouragement :D
I would love to come to Taiwan! Sadly Im also very low on money and have legal/ bail reasons I cant travel from protests however I am sure ill travel Asia in the future :)

is poison bait pellets or pesticides or bird netting or tube traps ( nut farms) or using farm raised commercial honeybees as pollinators …. Are any of these things vegan?
you're right it's not, but they don't give a fuck on how their "vegan" foods are produced and transported to their stores

I'm no better than you, friend. I was an animal abuser and never thought I would be vegan, but people change. I aligned my actions with my values and embraced veganism. There is no reason you can't do the same. For the animals, for the environment and for your health a plant-based diet is needed.

@@cattygirl6663 if the animals liberations isn't enough to get you to stop paying for their exploitation then what about the health of the environment? Eating a plant-based diet is the single biggest behaviour we can change to do our bit to reduce the climate crisis.

@@cattygirl6663 No society is immune to the climate crisis, wherever you are in your lifetime it is going to affect you. And do you not have anyone that you love? They will be affected too. Why make choices which are increasing human and animal suffering.
Humans learned to eat animals by watching animals eat animals. Lions, tigers, bears, wolves, dogs and even cats eat meat🤔.
Are you one of those animals? What other daily activities do you ask wild animals for advice on?
Then we learned how to grow plants, eat them instead of animals which get tortured and killed unnecessarily ❤️

1. I wasn't saying I eat meat I was quoting my dad
2. When you till the ground to plant seeds you kill all the animals that live just below the surface, like worms, and when you harvest you kill the animals that are hiding in the plants.
3. Meat substitutes such as soya basically steal all the nutrients from the ground they are growing in.
4. The climate of basically every country doesn't allow for year round crop growth, unless you are willing to use tonnes of electricity or fuel to grow/transport these items.
5. Judging by the fact that you called me a hick, I'm not even from America, you're American and if you eat Californian avocados you are contributing to the 'massacre' of millions of bees every year.
6. Despite my dad drinking and smoking, I have never smoked and rarely drink.
7. Finally, it has been proven that carrots are still alive when eaten, so the fact that you are taking the moral high ground about 'lack of cruelty' makes me question your education.
