  • I am not affiliated with or getting paid for this or compensated in any way, just excited about a printer with nearly 20micron resolution. Phrozen leapfrogs everyone again :)
    Let's hope it prints as good as it looks, the build quality looks far superior to the Mini 4k!

    Bought the Sonic mini 4k after watching your reviews and it's still going strong. Was tempted to get one of the new Elegoo models but now I'd definitely waiting to see how this turns out. Great content, keep it up :)

      Same here. I bought the Sonic Mini 4K after watching his review. The Mighty 4K also!

      I did not buy the Mini 4K because of the small build height and the problematic z-axis. Only now Phrozen is offering a completely new z-axis as upgrade kit. Stepper motor and lead screw, linear rail guide and slider block (now 4 screws instead of 2) and a new t-plate (aka cantilever). With this kit it is the printer that it should have been from the start.
      The new Mini 8K is half a step forward because it not only has a better resolution but also dual linear rails. But it still doesn't have the ball screw from the Phrozen Shuffle 2018, which also had a full-metal case. Phrozen took several steps back with the Mini 4K just to make a half step forward. A ball screw would have been a great improvement. Being locked to ChiTuBox is also a problem for people who want to use Lychee as slicer.

      @@Holztransistor Hi ! Have you found out if it's good or bad that is has only 1 led module with lens ? I reminds me firs anycubic photon which had really bad at printing small parts, because of light bleed. Now I have Phrozen with first paraled and it works perfect for me and I think it will be wrose than paraled. I really want to buy this 8k, but afraid these leds will suck.

    • @Holztransistor
      @Holztransistor 2 года назад

      @@DOGbackwardz A ball screw requires that all other components are also top quality and build to spec. Otherwise it can of course lead to higher load on rails and sliders because it's not as flexible as a thin lead screw. I know someone who has converted his Shuffle 2018 to 4K and he also replaced the mechanical components with even better ones, including a high torque stepper. The ball screw alone was 320 Euros. But he now can print at speeds that others will never achieve.

  • @ricklynch

    That's pretty awesome! However keep in mind it is not twice the resolution. It is only 0.0005" of an inch higher in resolution. 35ųm-22ųm=13ųm=0.0005". That is only half a thou! As a machinist, believe me, that is small! It is still great to see strides like this! Great channel! Keep up the great work! 👍

    • @Holztransistor
      @Holztransistor 2 года назад +4

      How about using percentage? The new printer has 37 percent smaller pixels. That's a lot.

    • @ElectricBobcat
      @ElectricBobcat 2 года назад +3

      Remember that this is a 2D measurement, so in terms of area per pixel (um^2) it's actually 2.5x smaller. (35*35)/(22*22)

    • @Holztransistor
      @Holztransistor 2 года назад

      @@ElectricBobcat You're right. And the volume (3rd dimension) varies because you can chose your layer strength. For 0.022 mm you can't print the perfect cube because I doubt the stepper can handle that (not the cheap Chinese stuff). I mostly print at 0.03 mm layer strength. Sometimes 0.02 mm. Even on a printer like the Saturn. The quality of the resin is what has most impact for me. Ameralabs AMD-3, TGM-7 and Nova3D Red Wax are great. Also Resione M70 and Longer 3D Deep Peach. All those are more brittle but I only want display pieces, so that's fine for me. I avoid ABS-like resins.

    • @davidnickisson2555
      @davidnickisson2555 2 года назад

      One voxel on the 8k has a 4th the volume of one on the 4k, or only 8.5% the volume of one voxel on the normal mini

    Do slicing softwares support multi milion meshes? I ve read in couple of places that model should be decimated to 500k-1M triangles..im not sure if thats enough to support 8K worth of detail (if printed on bigger scale).
    Im educating myself on the subject, id appreciate any info on this. Thanks

    Nice view. Looks good but im already getting the Jupiter

    • @Holztransistor
      @Holztransistor 2 года назад

      The Jupiter has a different target audience in terms of printing details and size of the prints. 51 microns XY resolution is not bad. I'd use it for statues. The Mini 8K is for highly detailed miniatures and busts. Maybe even good enough to print master models for resin casting.
      What clearly is better on the Jupiter is the case and the fact that is has a ball screw. I'd like to have that on every printer.
      But real improvements are missing. Like a tilting vat that the Prusa has. Or 3D anti aliasing which is a feature of the Prusa slicer. 3d printing companies need to be more innovative to find ways to reduce peeling forces. That would ensure to have less layer shifts and more successful prints. Because failed prints are a huge waste of time and material.

  • @youtubevanced4900

    Weird they advertise 8k but it's not actually 8k resolution. It's only about 3/4 of the pixel count as 8k. Bit misleading. Closer to 6k than 8k
