My father and I were there Saturday crabbing. The spot you were fishing in perhaps could have landed you a new species. I don't know what they are called I googled it and couldn't find them. They have bass or grouper characteristics and are dark brown to blackish color and orange. I caught quite a few them a few years ago using mud minnows about 4 feet in depth. They aren't hard to catch but there are a lot of ribbonfish once you get past the bend in the pier piping. There is a drop off at that point and beneath the pier their are slots.
Lastly if you ever find yourself at that particular pier again you can catch a ton of nice size speckled trout and crabs before the bend in the pipe and spots and ribbonfish after the bend. I have also caught stripers, hogfish, puffers and have heard of, rays and cobia being caught there. Good luck on your future endeavours, love the vids.

A real genuine class act my friend, the struggle is real. A fantastic series, everyone catching fish, even creeper kid got his fish on. Selective harvesting responsibly as always, setting the prime example, informative and entertaining. Hey epf you don't have to explain yourself. If any viewers complain they may not have fished with people that need you to help them bait hooks and release fish. And as far as your dad goes I think he qualifies for super hero status not only in his sons eyes but a true anglers eyes. It takes a lot to get back to doing what you love after something like that. Much love epf keep it up bud.

Your dad did great. His hook-set with his more mobile arm was particularly interesting. I actually went back and looked at it to try and use it for low-hanging brushy trees I tend to fish around and under. I might not have missed that fish I lost a few weeks ago had I tried a hook-set something like your dad's improvised one.

Your dad is recovering very well. It's obviously a long road, but compare it to how he was just 6 months ago. It's a ton of improvement and these were just his first time fishing in ages (since the stroke). Even catching sunfish is an accomplishment. Consider the effort it takes to hook a fish 1 handed, then change it to the other hand (having to actually manually move your fingers around the rod), and then reel with the other hand. It's not easy, but he seemed to be getting a good feel for it. Imagine how much better it'll be the farther along his recovery goes. It's a marathon, not a sprint. He's off to a great start. And having to manage everyone's bait, fish, etc. can definitely be stressful, but you were a good sport to make sure everyone else got to enjoy the fishing sessions.
