Thats my first PC. Mine was the venturis 433sx but it looks similar to this.
Hearing yours start up brings back memories of when I either had to do homework on it or play Doom. Doom ran ok on the limited 4mb ram it had built-in (with boot disk) but it was a game changer literally when I upgraded the RAM to 12mb and got a sound blaster card. Also threw in another hard drive for a whopping 700mb of space.

@@dgpsartscrafts Mine was an Intel 486sx @ 33 MHz. Fine at the time but around 1997 it was getting slow. Trying to run the game full throttle it would pause while the cpu or cd drive would buffer.

I admire your determination to restore an old PC with little to no collectible value. Aside from being manufactured by a now defunct and historically significant US computer company, it's merely a Digital branded PC with the same generic hardware found in other machines made in the millions. I purchased a Digital PC server back in the mid-90s at a fire sale after the company closed its doors for good. After a few years, I remember chucking it away and keeping the hard drives.

Hell yeah, I had like 10 of this exact machine. I got them from a palette of machines bound for the trash, I think they came from Bath Iron Works where they build ships. One of them was suspiciously heavy and I found it was completely full of heavy black dust, so.. that one went back into the trash. The rest I used for all kinds of stuff and still have one, but I'm afraid to run it because the power supply will be impossible to replace and they failed often on these machines. Those latches on the side are clever, but _impossible_ as they age.

I recently restored an old Pentium IV that i bought to an old office boss. It was very abandoned and buried in a huge layer of dust (and smelled to tobacco). The only thing can't save was the 40 GB HDD, some components burned. I replaced it with a 120 GB SSD (using a Ide to SATA adapter) and i installed Windows XP on it. The computer had 512 MB of Ram, so i replaced it with 2 modules of 2 GB, and i got an old Voodoo 3D from a flea market. Perfect to run Quake, Unreal, Quake 2, and Half-Life.

Looks like it has Olivetti origins, the metal case design (in their documentation referred to as "Slim Tin Box") is 100% Olivetti, as used on their M4 and PCS line, but with some design tweaks to the external plastics, though I will give props to DEC for putting an actual ISA socket in the low-profile slot, Olivetti just put a pin header there which limits the use of that spot to a soundcard that is as rare as hen's teeth to find... :)

Sorry. Near 30 years makes it almost a medieval artefact in the IT world. :D
It's Windows 95. The first version of the OS that had "Mass market" appeal. Up to then, Windows was still just a basic graphical user interface that the average seasoned MS-DOS user just feel was getting in their way. Even up to Windows 3.11 you still really did need to have at least a basic understanding of MS-DOS to do anything more than simple tasks. 95 was (For the time) rather pretty, and it also did a hell of a lot of hand holding for new users. It really helped bring computers out of the workplace and into early tech adopters homes.

With the strictest use of the term "Computer" there was not only Analogue computers (The Babbage difference engine, and the Enigma machines are two mechanical computers that spring to mind), but there was also Biological computers. The word "Computer" originally referred to someone who worked doing complex mathematical calculations. They were usually in offices surrounded by other "Computers" who would be calculating things like total incomings and out goings of a company, tax returns, and various other cost/statistical data.
Accountancy firms used to be the main employer of "computers", then they slowly replaced them with what passed as a digital computer back them. The name of the "Computer department" would remain the same, so the word "Computer" slowly became connected to the mass of valves, relays, wiring, and punch cards that took over the role.
It sounds stupid, but I was once curious why the word for computer SOUNDS like "Computer" in most languages, and during my reading I came across the English usage history of the word........ It's never a waste of time to learn something new, even if that new knowledge might not have any practical use. :D
