I went directly to 5. I'm in my mid 70's and have played in several local bands in the NYC area back in the early to late 60's. I played a little bass and timbales and congas and the minute I heard them, first in Onset, then Play and I was literally enthralled. I watched many rock bands over the decades and I can't remember too many that were as in tune with each other and blended so well it was if they were a hive mind. IMHOP they are the finest hard rock group on the planet.

They're are Japanese. The maid concept is to create "The Gap" meaning the difference in what you are are seeing demure maids vs what you are hearing Rock and Roll. It works, Huh! Prior to founding of the band by Miku, they were working session/backing musicians, singer and dancer. They are talented, professionally educated/trained with most playing instruments form childhood. Oh, it's not in the water, it's in the Sake! Kanami (lead guitar) composes the music, Miku (rhythm guitar) primary lyricist. Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) create their lines from the music sent to them from Kanami via internet. Then they go into the studio, completing the song(s) from the base they have already laid down. Saiki (vocalist) has the job of calling "Done" for the songs. Also she has starting to work with Miku on lyrics. In 2019 they played 5 sold-out concerts in the US. They are the best Rock and Roll band in the world, right now!

This is the song (though a different live version with a different intro) that hooked me within 30 seconds of hearing them. Ever since, I've been drawn deeper into the rabbit hole. They are like that first breath of fresh air after being stuck in a car with flatulent friends for far too long. (You're welcome for that mental image, btw.) There's so much noise that's become popular, it's become what I expect most of the time. And then these 5 small ladies just rip all that apart and remind me how great hard, driving rock-n-roll is. translations of japanese songs are seemingly difficult (not only for Band Maid), so if something seems "weird" try to get the general meaning within the context. Basically, as far as I understand the english translation, it's about not getting stuck in routine but to go for your impulse and try new things/"just do it" ... the fact that the singer (Saiki) is a big Nike fan kind of makes that slightly funny ;) As I posted in another comment, the song "Choose Me" has english subtitles. Good first review of what a lot of us consider the best hard rock band in the world. I first discovered them a couple of years ago (while watching a Babymetal reaction), was blown away by their music and talent. Best rock band that I have listened to in at least 30 years and have since purchased most of their albums and have a play list this is 80% Band-Maid. New sub.
You don't understand what you have stepped in to. "Domination" live from the same show or "Freedom" from the same show. I have yet to see a reactor that wasn't blown away.

I'm just a LITTLE late to the party but had to compliment you on this fantastic reaction vid on "Play". I saw that this was your first time ever hearing them and the look in your eyes was exactly what I expected! The classic Band Maid WTF was that? look. My first song was Thrill, recommended by the algorithm (which I would kiss on the lips and buy a bottle of Dom for doing so but....) It took me all of 10 or 15 seconds of MIsa's bass and Akane with the huge riff to realize these ladies were serious players! Little did I know HOW serious! In a way I'm a little jealous, "Play" is quite an intro tune for someone-what a tour de force song! As a Rush fan (I am as well) this band certainly is a welcome breath of fresh air in the rock dept. isn't it?

Band-Maid are awesome. They remind me a bit of Aerosmith musically. That classic hard rock. They are definitely a grove band and the reason is Misa, the bass player. Onset is one of my favorites. I will need to check out your reaction on that one.
Well they have released 92 songs to date, and Play is not in my personal top 50 band-Maid songs. The new intro they did for this concert did raise my appreciation of this song though.
In my opinion, the whole Asian music is where the action's been for the past decade. I got in early on it, and discovered Band Maid in 2014. As a result, I had to the good sense to go see them perform live at a small venue when they came to the USA a few years ago. My point is, if you ever get the chance to see Band Maid in concert, don't hesitate.

There's actually a fair bit of English in this song. The lead singer isn't a fluent English speaker though, so her diction isn't always spot on, and they also have a habit of mixing English and Japanese on the same line, so you brain just tunes out, and doesn't hear it.
That's right she doesn't really know what the words mean so she doesn't pronounce them properly but her timing is so good you don't really miss the English at least I don't. The emphasis on each word match perfectly with the notes that are being played. I really believe that she is as good as SU METAL. I don't want to be disparaging of FLOOR JANSON but she doesn't sing each song as perfectly as she did when she first joined the band and whilst SAIKI could never match her operatic ability or power I think she is more consistent.
@@stephenchigwidden7504 Saiki can speak some English, so she probably knows what she's saying. She's just not confident in English. Even Miku, who is a lot more confident, can still get troubled by the L/R and B/V similarities at times when speaking.

Band Maid put some part of their concert in Shibuya of february, and some even have english subs. But a warning, the subs even if are in the official videos, are not in the BD of this concert. Also a nice choice from the record label was to sell the BD without regional restrictions, you can buy and see in any part of the world. They have some time ago a lot of videos from a previous concert, but they retire all of them and put some of this new one. Also Band Maid is growing popularity among the world, even to touring in Europe and even in USA. Not not because the COVID issue but well... those things happen A really fun thing is see the interviews in the japanese TV. I went directly to 5. I'm in my mid 70's and have played in several local bands in the NYC area back in the early to late 60's. I played a little bass and timbales and congas and the minute I heard them, first in Onset, then Play and I was literally enthralled. I watched many rock bands over the decades and I can't remember too many that were as in tune with each other and blended so well it was if they were a hive mind. IMHOP they are the finest hard rock group on the planet.

They're are Japanese. The maid concept is to create "The Gap" meaning the difference in what you are are seeing demure maids vs what you are hearing Rock and Roll. It works, Huh! Prior to founding of the band by Miku, they were working session/backing musicians, singer and dancer. They are talented, professionally educated/trained with most playing instruments form childhood. Oh, it's not in the water, it's in the Sake!
Kanami (lead guitar) composes the music, Miku (rhythm guitar) primary lyricist. Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) create their lines from the music sent to them from Kanami via internet. Then they go into the studio, completing the song(s) from the base they have already laid down. Saiki (vocalist) has the job of calling "Done" for the songs. Also she has starting to work with Miku on lyrics.
In 2019 they played 5 sold-out concerts in the US.

Watching Misa and Miku (Rhythm Guitar) having a "conversation" and Kanami (Ld Guitar/song writer) shredding as usual.I grew up with the great Rock of the 70's and 80's and these 5 musicians just take me back because you see in their Live performances how much they love to play music, how much fun they have with each other and how they have an intimate relationship with us fans regardless the size of the venue. This is the song (though a different live version with a different intro) that hooked me within 30 seconds of hearing them. Ever since, I've been drawn deeper into the rabbit hole. They are like that first breath of fresh air after being stuck in a car with flatulent friends for far too long. (You're welcome for that mental image, btw.) There's so much noise that's become popular, it's become what I expect most of the time. And then these 5 small ladies just rip all that apart and remind me how great hard, driving rock-n-roll is. They are an absolute gift.

translations of japanese songs are seemingly difficult (not only for Band Maid), so if something seems "weird" try to get the general meaning within the context. Basically, as far as I understand the english translation, it's about not getting stuck in routine but to go for your impulse and try new things/"just do it" ... the fact that the singer (Saiki) is a big Nike fan kind of makes that slightly funny ;)
As I posted in another comment, the song "Choose Me" has english subtitles. Anyway, you can enjoy the songs without understanding (most of) the lyrics.

Good first review of what a lot of us consider the best hard rock band in the world. I first discovered them a couple of years ago (while watching a Babymetal reaction), was blown away by their music and talent. Best rock band that I have listened to in at least 30 years and have since purchased most of their albums and have a play list this is 80% Band-Maid. New sub.
You don't understand what you have stepped in to. "Domination" live from the same show or "Freedom" from the same show. I have yet to see a reactor that wasn't blown away.

I'm just a LITTLE late to the party but had to compliment you on this fantastic reaction vid on "Play". I saw that this was your first time ever hearing them and the look in your eyes was exactly what I expected! The classic Band Maid WTF was that? look. My first song was Thrill, recommended by the algorithm (which I would kiss on the lips and buy a bottle of Dom for doing so but....) It took me all of 10 or 15 seconds of MIsa's bass and Akane with the huge riff to realize these ladies were serious players! Little did I know HOW serious! In a way I'm a little jealous, "Play" is quite an intro tune for someone-what a tour de force song! As a Rush fan (I am as well) this band certainly is a welcome breath of fresh air in the rock dept. isn't it?

Band-Maid are awesome. They remind me a bit of Aerosmith musically. That classic hard rock. They are definitely a grove band and the reason is Misa, the bass player. Onset is one of my favorites. I will need to check out your reaction on that one.
Well they have released 92 songs to date, and Play is not in my personal top 50 band-Maid songs. The new intro they did for this concert did raise my appreciation of this song though.

In my opinion, the whole Asian music is where the action's been for the past decade. I got in early on it, and discovered Band Maid in 2014. As a result, I had to the good sense to go see them perform live at a small venue when they came to the USA a few years ago. There's actually a fair bit of English in this song. The lead singer isn't a fluent English speaker though, so her diction isn't always spot on, and they also have a habit of mixing English and Japanese on the same line, so you brain just tunes out, and doesn't hear it.
That's right she doesn't really know what the words mean so she doesn't pronounce them properly but her timing is so good you don't really miss the English at least I don't. The emphasis on each word match perfectly with the notes that are being played. I really believe that she is as good as SU METAL. I don't want to be disparaging of FLOOR JANSON but she doesn't sing each song as perfectly as she did when she first joined the band and whilst SAIKI could never match her operatic ability or power I think she is more consistent.

@@stephenchigwidden7504 Saiki can speak some English, so she probably knows what she's saying. She's just not confident in English. Even Miku, who is a lot more confident, can still get troubled by the L/R and B/V similarities at times when speaking.

The band has been around for a long time, and it's worth checking the MVs (their first one was "Thrill", ruclips.net/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/видео.html , in which Miku Kobato, the second vocalist and rhythm guitarist was just air-guitaring as she didn't know how to play) but everyone will tell you that Live is where the band really shines ... and that's the truth ;)
Oh .. and another tidbit : they didn't compose or write the lyrics to their earlier songs, but nowadays they write the lyrics (mostly miku) and compose/arrange the music themselve.
also, in case it wasn't clear, they just rock.
Band Maid put some part of their concert in Shibuya of february, and some even have english subs. But a warning, the subs even if are in the official videos, are not in the BD of this concert.
Also a nice choice from the record label was to sell the BD without regional restrictions, you can buy and see in any part of the world.
They have some time ago a lot of videos from a previous concert, but they retire all of them and put some of this new one.
Also Band Maid is growing popularity among the world, even to touring in Europe and even in USA. Not not because the COVID issue but well... those things happen
A really fun thing is see the interviews in the japanese TV. Also the founder of the band: Miku Kobato (backing vocals and rhythmic guitar) is an incredible showman, even appears in some TV programs dressed in the same way to promote some regions or even neighborhoods in Tokyo
