    Dave we need a pensado's place on integrating digital & analog equipment. Signal routing, digital to analog conversion; basically running our sounds through hardware and printing back into protools will us faithful viewers to take the musicality & overall sonic presentation of our mixes to the next level. Thank you, Armen G (TeEmGIFT Låbs)

    thank you so much.I love the show and the Miley Cyrus song is one of my favorite pop tracks of all time.I wasn't expecting the mixer of that track to be on this episode It's amazing to hear his approach. Mike Will did a great job producing, it's truly a pop gem, a milestone, it's like the track of my dreams. Anyway, thank you again, I love how this is the only show where I could both geek out about a Miley Cyrus song and at the same time about a weird, vintage plugin or piece of gear.

    There was some really, really great advice in this, thank you guys so much for having Jaycen on. I work in a completely different genre of music (Hard Rock/Metal/Extreme metal), but a lot of the advice really crosses over. With that being said, I'd love for you guys to have one of the bigger names in that genre of music on, two suggestions would be Joey Sturgis (who is sure to stir up opinions in the comments!), and Andy Sneap.

    Jaycen Joshua has to be one of the greatest hip hop mix engineers out there. His kicks do sound really massive and "bounce-y". I noticed that Mike Will often has his kicks hitting along with his snares - and perhaps to keep his peak meter in check, right now Jaycen Joshua seems to have thought it was best to let go of the snare a bit in such a scenario. If there's anything (in my view) he should be going for, it would be perfecting that delicate combination of kicks & snares hitting altogether, towards a more balanced trade where the snare would actually survive the process. Keep it up Jay!

This is stuff that audio schools don't really teach. These are techniques learned by "assisting" a great Engineer over a period of years! Thanks!! Oh yea... Dave, I often have similar problems with bass notes sounding drastically louder than others and normal compression never seems to solve the issue.
    from watching this ITL I see that you are using the C1 side chain to sort this problem out.
    I was wondering how to go about using this plug in to solve the issue. What should I be looking to target when using this plug in? What parameters are essential to getting it right?
    cheers

    The best part about this show is that when they talk to this producers and mix engineers they never push Pro Tools, they may mention it in passing because that is the program they all like to use (except for the occasional Fruity Loops shout out) but they never say you can only do what they do in Pro Tools. It is possible in Logic or Cubase to do and sound like they do. I am a Pro Tools user and I love Logic, it's great that this is about the art not the software or hardware.

    does gain staging mean making sure the mix bus is not clipping but keeping it at a decent level? so after eq-ing a sound making sure its not clippnig or pushing the mixbuss too far or vice versa...if the level drops after eq-ing adding some gain again?

    Big Interview : Jaycen's a Gorgan!!!
    Jaycen's making his own reverb and delay choices and - pitching and changing KIK sounds - HE should be getting "Co-Produced By" credits.... Cause that's Production..
    When I deliver files to be mixed,all the stuff is how I want it...
    All i really expect from a mixer is Eq,Compression,Level Automation,panning And overall polish... Am I doing too much?

    • @cervantchristian3851
      @cervantchristian3851 8 лет назад +2

      +Roger Drakes Depends on how good your engineer is. Sometimes the creative and technical side clash, which ever one is more important in a certain situation will determine if the engineer can offer a technical advantage. Engineer may have a sound choice you find worth scraping a particular creative move for like a certain kick drum. Its no different then a singer hitting the note a little flat and the songwriter says that's fine it adds a little flavor leave it like that.
