"Stump The VK Guy" Question:
When and why should I use a LINEAR PHASE EQ plugin over regular EQ plugin. Are they less efficient?
Jeff Leibovich's Answer:
I would use a Linear Phase EQ for more surgical applications (including mastering) as well as when I'd like the EQ to not color/add sound to the source material. Some also tend to use Linear Phase EQ on stuff they know has already been heavily processed so as to not mess with phase. I am not sure if I would call a linear phase eq more or less efficient, it does keep all frequencies in phase though. As with most things audio, there is no right or wrong answer on this, it's a matter of what sounds right on the source material. A Lot of times the two types of EQ will compliment each other well if needed.

I like this episode of ITL. the "channel strip" thingy he uses sounds like a typical amp/distortion thing- which is cool cause i discovered that using that on instruments other than guitars gets you a LOT of energy!

Hey Herb & Dave, I'm a hip-hop producer who heavily uses samples in my music, and would love to learn how Manny treated the Samples from Vinyl, used on his mixes for Common-Be. Any resources on this?
that tidbit about using different bus compressors for different parts of the song is such a dangerous piece of the information to put out publically and is gonna fuck up more people's mixes than the misuse of multiband compression.

Every single guest is confused when asked for something under $500. They don’t even promote their plugins at such a juncture. Guess I ain’t getting onto Billboard over the next several lifetimes
Yeah, it is not cheap work but transformers and op amps do give life to the sound.
You can find old mixer board with transformers tho ((Yamaha pm 700), also you can get Distrossor x2, FMR compressor, UAD 2 card with some plugs, Boss pedals are cheap, it will be almost 3k$ ...but you can do so much.
Drive some older car but get some distorted saturated musical output man.
