    It really seems like Andrew Scheps is so in the moment and spontaneous in the way he mixes. A natural talent that has a great philosophy, a down to earth , uncomplicated way of doing things.
    Man! He mixed ‘Ride’ Fantastic job, my favorite Del Rey song. Color me impressed:)))
    Also... Andrew is a technician who understands the technology so his take on ad/da has its merits.

    On DA conversion, I thought the exact same thing when it came to preserving sound quality so now I’m smiling. it’s 100% in the box for me . I record a lot using a Fractal AX8 which can be recorded direct into your DAW by using the SPDIF out. This also cuts out the DA conversion aspect of guitar recording.. if you use a guitar modeler like so many do these days .. Def Leppard etc. it’s a winner

      Blood lord. I guess you missed the part where Sheps says he is 100% in the box now. What AvD war? He said he can mix anywhere in the world with a backpack and his Tannoys. Conan..Every time you use any plugin based on vintage gear you are definitely looking back. Looking back with respect to the gear that made more platinum than PT ever will. Haha...Do you still use primitive microphones to capture the sound? That tech is over 100 years old dude. Just an example of our ironic nature. I am 100 % in the box now too, but enjoy what companies like Waves has done for us with the retro feeling and sounding plugins. I always look back, especially when plugging a vacuum tube condenser into my interface......

    40:38 "The 1073 (hardware) makes my stuff sound like it was recorded through a pillow."
    That's kind of ironic considering that I find the plug-in to cause a lot of high-end build-up. Although, I use it in a weird way where I use multiple on the same track to hit multiple bands. Which I'm probably not supposed to do exactly for that build-up reason.
    But still, I find it to be quite "bright". But OK. - And yea, I know, it's an emulation and possibly improved in clarity over the hardware, as it's digital anyway.

    11:06 That's not "amount of analogue noise". Settings 1-4 are four different characters of analogue emulation.
    But... It doesn't make a lot of difference, it just gives variation. Unless you're EXPECTING noise (or more or less of it according to the numbers), that's not really what you'll get or what it does.

      +Michael Cordell I'm not sure if I missed the website or if he mentioned a second app, but the only one I caught was Smart Math. You should find it just by googling "smart math app" It costs a few dollars, but it's convenient if you are either too lazy to calculate the ms/hz or just don't know how. It offers quite a bit for what it's worth in the long run but I haven't bought it, just checked it out a while back. If there was another one then my bad. :P Hope that helps, though!

    Andrew is a definitely a genius - however, he's tendency to abuse dynamic compression ends up compromising the overall sound quality of some of his work. Just look at RHCP's albums where master pieces as Californication lose so much because of compression. An interesting exercise is listening to his albums in LP vs CD where the impact of compression is very noticeable - e.g. RHCP, Metallica or Adele's

    I really don't understand the whole deal with batter's box. Does it rely on some old norm that engineers don't like saying what they use or is the weird hype they give to the competition aspect just...weird? It's not a test of intellect or anything, it's just naming a piece of gear. That's all it is. The info makes for a cool segment for gear, but most of the guests have no idea wtf is happening with the build up. Love the interview, but I've been confused by that segment for nearly a decade now.

  • @ThrillaPark

    Love the show as many do. But please limit talking over and/or interrupting the guest. They're the star. Also, the under the breath side talk bet Dave and the guy in the middle WHILE the guest is talking makes it hard to hear what the guest is saying. Lastly, inside jokes are so boring for the listener. themotownboy1 He's actually saying this has been a change. I think it's a testament to an open minded and progressive artist/engineer/producer to embrace new generations of technology. And frankly, even 5, 8 years in plugins and processing are quite a leap.

    • @fledsup
      @fledsup 9 лет назад +5

      themotownboy1 I understand your perception, however, its better to be open to change then be stuck in the past. When Pro tools first came on the commercial market around 1996. One of their main reps my friend (Joel) took the first HD system to Lenny Kravitz. They did a blind test shoot out recording only a drum kit. My friend said the clear winner was the analog tape. Pro tools sounded thin and tinny. In 2003, Pro tools had improved their systems and converters. They went to Lennys studio again, and this time he chose Pro tools. At least he was open to change.
