Colt Capperrune brought me here 22:00
same.. then I turned it off when he made his racist comment about white people being "boring" @ 29:00
Thank you! :)
@@cripesalmighty4744 isn’t there an incel / Jordan Peterson reddit page you should be on?
@@cripesalmighty4744 he said "white bread sounds" he said nothing of white people being boring, hes talking about the sounds being as plain as white bread. lol i think you need to pay more attention and stop looking for things to be offended about, this video is gold.
And me
Colt Capperune brought me here too. Absolutely a must watch for anyone who engineer anything from studio to live. Great interview. Learned alot! 🐼🐼🐼 Panda out!
Me too!
Me three!
Just landed here 4th ...
Likewise
Yup
21:39 here is where the gem starts.
It's so true!
Thank you to Colt Capperune for sending me here. So much great advice I can't believe it!
what he's saying starting at 2:00 is so true. If you listen to J Dilla's music. His mixes were always so perfect. He was constantly going from mixing the record to his truck and listening in the car. If you analyze the frequencies in his songs, it's hitting at 40, and 3k exactly how jack said. That's where the soul of the song lies. In a time when theres so many tutorials and lessons, it's still just best to use your ears.
Finally someone who says listening at a low level for balance is important! People always call me crazy for advising my students to check mixes at low volume regularly as you work. It will absolutely help you make better mix decisions.
Teddy Riley is soo underrated! The guy's talent is so vast, expansive. Sings, plays various instruments, produces, arranges, mixes, writes for Heavies in Industry. That album Pensado speaks of is a Classic!
Thanks for saving these interviews, I was trying to look the whole episodes from the start. :)
The producer JJP is referring to.... the one with the 'tent in the control room' is michael beinhorn. He forgot to mention, the camo and the guns. The album he had just finished was Soundgarden's Superunknown.
Yeah, he's talking about Hole's Celebrity Skin - the "3-name guy" is CLA.
what a gent. the passion. the love. thanks for this.
Thanks for archiving these videos!
OMG, I'm so thankful I found this interview! Lots a gems in this one! Thanks!
thanx for re-posting. Remember when I saw this "live". Now after all these years understand better what they're talking about. Great episode
Amazing episode! Thanks, guys!!!!
So great. I love these so much.
One of the best Pensado's.
Jack Joseph Puig is one of my favorite producers. He's worked on so many projects I love. Random aside, but it's crazy how differently he dresses and presents himself now. Saw a more recent video with him on Produce Like a Pro, and he's a total hipster. He looks way more like what you'd expect from someone who worked on Weezer's Pinkerton, Belly, Dinosaur Jr., Jellyfish, Nada Surf, Big Wreck, and Aimee Mann.
Thank you; what an amazing show! Soooo enlightening. Thanks again~
What an incredibly fascinating discussion..!
Thank you so much. that was really informative . Jack Joseph is doing some great work for the music industry in general. What a hero. I got a lot from this.
JJP is brilliant and truly changed the way I think about mixing.
I might even have begun to enjoy mixing because of him.
24:48 // It's 2021, i came back because i remembered JJP having this nice mindset/concept about compression !!
Yup 💯💯
I really am a ant in music but having to watch this elephant J.J Puig speak with such musical depth and understanding is a blessing. I will emerge as a David of my era someday because of your teachings Honorable!
Absolutely phenomenal interview. Brilliant person.
Who is giving this video a thumbs down?! Easily the most exciting talk on mixing ever.
Wow, he said, "The midrange is where the soul is." That's so profound.
I think is the spirit of sounds or maybe the aura too...
I LOVE PENSADO'S ENDLESS & INFINITE CURIOSITY & PASSION FOR KNOWLEDGE FOR HIS CRAFT! EXTREMELY INTOXICATING & CONTAGIOUSLY SO MUCH SO THAT AFTER 8 HRS PRODUCING/MIXING, I WAS GOING TO REST... & WHILE WATCHING THIS, I'M TURNING EQUIPMENT ON TO WORK MORE. HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME & EPISODE!
fantastic, inspiring!
Whoa man. This was an experience.. Thank you for sharing that.
JJP very inspiring that he stresses feel/soul as the driving factor in good mixes.
pure gold in here
now thats one inspired and Inspiring guy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
who else here dreams of being mentored by JJP ????
This whole thing is incredibly informative (on compression and so many other things) but for anyone who listens to it all -- listen for the Glyn Johns story!!
Dave is so wholesome
One of my fave PP episodes , but is anyone else hearing background chatter? Or is it just because I'm high? Happy New Year! Hello 2021!
Definitely a "Flamingo" sexy thing!! ahaha ;)
Thanks Colt
This has been an enlightening 1:15:26. Thank you for uploading!
Amazing program this was. No demonstrations, but so much learnt - and that's after we've been to audio school. Fantastic end quote "music was made to praise God." I only just discovered that "Jehovah" (old text) taught Moses a song (God taught Moses) and Moses was then to teach it to Israel. Music has a huge history and has come a long way in production terms. I loved the experience of testing out mic positions with headphones on. Cracking.
The Psalms are essentially an ancient hymnal. King David wrote many of them, but there a Psalms (songs) from Moses, and a few others in there as well.
"Let everyone that has breath, praise the Lord" if we don't praise Him, the rocks will cry out.
@@esjel9804 Yes David was a great contributor to the collection of Psalms.
Thank You🙌🙌🙌🙌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Midrange 23:20
the more you dive into mixing and production these interviews contain more information about this topic than classic production videos about compressor and so on! thx!
AWESOME GEMS!!!
Very cool interview!! Would be so cool to have Dave as a Friend.. Cheers 🥂
wow, this is it
"I count for something" 😂Dave is silly.
Big knowledge
The Glyn story is too much! Gotta love it!
There aren't enough videos of JJP
He is such a great person and great teacher.
AWESOME! BUT JJP...you said you are Spanish...what is "Flamingo" guitar? LOL. FLAMENCO!
I caught that too and was looking around for a comment on this. lol Pretty surprised to hear that. But other than that, great episode!!
🇺🇸 one big advert 🇺🇸
JJP made compression live in this chat.
I was "introduced" to JJP through Sweet Comfort Band records.
Certainly glad to have come across this page. Thanks to Colt Capperune for the recommendation!
back when Dave did the majority of the interviewing.
They made the plug-in into a real person
22:59 as Colt says. Gold!!
Jelly Fish would be my fav.
TL;DR: 600Hz-3.7KHz
50:59 thank you for saying this. Some of this guitar pop is excellent, but I get really confused when people call it rock - I grew up on Deep Purple and Motörhead so yeah. You can make rock music with synths (Hawkwind anyone?), what JJP said about Zeppelin and mandolins.
clasicccccccc
this is profound
This is great-have learned a lot from listening to this. Puig is a Catalan last name, as far as I know. Is his grandfather from there, or from the Caribbean? It’s common in the Hispanic Caribbean...Puerto Rico, DR, Cuba.
This somehow looks like it was filmed on 1999
JJ fuckin P! So many gems in this 💎.
22 💎
Was the other guy with “3 names” CLA perhaps?
I am interested in that as well..!

Did Pensado's Place ever interview Michael Omartian?
Waves suddenly has a 300% boost in sales and doesn’t know why😂 28:52
Poor Drew.
“My dad is a tv repairman, he’s got the ultimate set of tools”.....
-stupid quote from “fast times at ridgemont high” I’d say to that guy if I had been sitting there when he said his dad was a tv repairman
I'm so interested in Jack's idea of using compression for "feel." I would love to know a general idea of how much compression he is using to get those effects? I know it probably is based on each individual scenario. This really reminds me of the way Gregory Scott from Kush Audio talks about compression. For example: ruclips.net/video/K0XGXz6SHco/видео.html
Love Gregory Scott. You ever listen to his podcast?
I think I started understanding compression better when I started using it more as a tone shape than a dynamic controller. If it were just about dynamics, it would be more effective to simply ride the volume until the track was perfectly even. But a compressor can smooth out a harsh attack or it can bring up the attack on a track that feels flat. It can bring up the sound of the room on a room mic or the sustain on a bass guitar. It can also introduce subtle (or obvious) pumping effect to a drum bus or the whole mix. There's so much that "feel" could mean.
Who?
Is daves microphone off. Lots of room tone on his voice
Why did Drew have his mean mug on though, that competitive? lol
Or was that face for Mr Pensando haha, hogging up the questions hahaha.
Am I the only one that thinks he reminds me of Dave grohl??
Now that you've said.. same kind of spirit too
"If I'm producing, I'm always mixing to the end..."
Boom - bingo.
46:27 this story alone made my day 😂😂😂
lol he said hard “R”
600-3.7
anyone know what year this is? 2010?
Looks like 95...
I was wondering that too lol. thinking like '11 or' 12
that guy with the “ mmm…mmmh hmmm” every 2 seconds……..ugh
ООО🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎👍
Honestly, I'd rather look at Rockwell than the Mona Lisa, but then I would rather view Da Vinci's sketches than the Mona Lisa but I'm off on a tangent
why does this look like it was recorded in 1993 on cable access? anyway, great video
Some thoughts) when they mentioned twitter, i thought, was there twitter in the 90's?
A Spanish fella that doesn't know it's flamenco, not flamingo...
That's what you got out of this!?!
@@christianvanhorn8446 That's not all I got out of this. I already knew JJP was a genius. Now I'm going to listen to some Paco De Lugia.
@@edbernardmusic3599 sometimes you have to choose, be a genius at one thing or know bunch of irrelevant data just for sake of knowing...imagine Tesla knowing terms in polka dance, yea ..dancers would be happy but still in the dark
@@RTCLR123 A musician should know it's flamenco, not flamingo.
pink flamingo😂.
LMAO!! @55:10
"DAMN DREW!" It's a hilarious situation, especially in hindsight from our perspective, but if you purposely let loose like that in a professional environment with such an amazing guest like JJP you should STRAIGHT UP be bitch slapped and fired. As much as I love to laugh and have a good time, I NEVER do it at the expense of someone who deserves my utmost honor and respect.
29:00 I dont really care for how he had to throw race into his analogy. Alluding to white people not having rhythm or style. I love how its just socially acceptable and even encouraged these days to be racist towards white people. Lame analogy JJP. Nice to know you find white people boring.
🤣😂🤣
Blahblahblahblahblah
This was recorded in 2011. Sometimes people just make a bad analogy when trying to convey something off the cuff. Let's jump to a good conclusion and give him the benefit of the doubt.
JJP may have worded it differently if he had known 9 years later people would still be watching this interview to learn from him and that some of us would interpret something that small as racial hate.
Playing the world's tiniest violin for you.
“ Racist towards white people “ lmao someone ain’t been through shit have they
