I hope you loved the long video today! I had so much fun filming it!🥰 Any other questions you have about pricing? Let me know here! ❤
This lady went to buy something from me, I want to say it $15. She venmoed me and it came through $20. I told her oh you over charged me, let me send you the $5 back. She said “it’s a tip sweetie you’re an artist” and walked away. Completely made my night
That's so sweet! I'm glad you had such a great interaction :)
That’s so sweet! Oh my heart. That’s amazing for a crafter.
A woman visiting my booth at a recent craft fair commented negatively about my prices. She said that she was also a knitter and said that my prices were was too high. Then she turned and walked away. Her comments really shook my confidence. And to that point I had yet to make a sale. I was primarily selling Beanies and headband ear warmers. The prices ranged between $25-$45 dollars. I started to worry that if I didn't lower my prices I wouldn't make any sales. So i made the now regretful decision to lower the prices of my items by $10 each! I believe in my original prices and i should have stood by my pricing.
I'm sorry you had that negative experience with that lady! I think we crafters should be supporting each other, not being overly critical!
I entirely understand the desire to lower prices in order to build the confidence that comes from making sales! But, I hope you do raise your prices back to a level that is fair to you and your time! Our work is so valuable because of the skill, passion, and time that goes into it!
I tend to undersell myself all the time, especially to friends or family. I was going to charge my friend half price for a commission since I was new to making the item he asked for and I was using a stash yarn I wanted to get rid of. In the end, He trusted my work and skills and paid me full priced even though I thought we agreed on the lower price. True friends will support your craft and dreams!
He sounds like a great friend! I love that he trusted you and knew your worth! So awesome:)
I agree with crocheters buying from other crocheters! At my demonstration last week, I had people come up to me sharing that they crochet, but had never seen crochet flower bouquets and bought them! Not all crocheters make the same things :)
I LOVE this! Thanks for sharing this story❤️ so inspiring!
The lady who inspired me to crochet bought a doll from me last week because "she couldnt do it" I was shocked.
The "dont look at my pumkin pricings 🙈" HAD ME ROLLING! Cause that is totally what i would be thinking as i get a mini anxiety attack
😂❤️
Re your comment that even crocheters will buy another crocheter's work: I like to bake bread, but that doesn't mean I won't buy YOUR delicious olive rolls. What you said is key: your not looking for non-customers for your products; you're looking for YOUR appreciative customer. And yes, I'm one of those who appreciates the skill, time, ingenuity, and dedication to small business & entrepreneurship that crafters exemplify. And if a product is upcycled or supplies were obtained from another small business owner? You can bet I'll be supporting that person. Craftsmanship of all sorts is disappearing. Thank you for keeping it alive. 🥰
Thank you for such wise and kind words! ❤️ Thank YOU for also being a part of keeping craftsmanship alive!
You are so right. I finally realized this year, after crocheting for over 25 years, that I and my skill have value! You come across confident to me! 💕💕
❤️❤️ I am so glad you see the value in your work!! :) I'd love to see some of your creations some time!
Like always, you’ve inspired me to be proud of what I do! I’m a full time nurse so this is a “side hustle” but I love it so much and it brings so much joy seeing people’s reactions to my products. I’ve been slowly realizing that people will definitely pay my worth! I have one customer who ALWAYS pays me more than I ask 😂which is so sweet and goes to show that people appreciate it!
I love this!😍 That customer sounds amazing! And your products sound amazing too!😍 so fun!
That is so gosh darn sweet!!
I’ve been watching your videos nonstop since discovering your channel yesterday so of course I had to subscribe! I don’t have a handmade business but I had definitely tossed the idea around and it’s so awesome that you give all the details of running your own business. Plus your energy is amazing and so contagious! I can’t help but be inspired to crochet while watching your videos 🥰
Oh my gosh, thank you!! I'm glad you are finding value in these and are inspired to crochet more often 😂 Maybe one day after crocheting so much watching these you'll have a little inventory and might be inspired to try selling them?? 😁🤣
The business coach lady, she was walking around the craft fair looking for customers 👍 she bought from you but also sold to you. She's smart.
Thank you for this. I have been crocheting for 20+ years and do not sell my work. I have given a lot of things away. My husband thinks I should start selling my work. I’ve done a commissioned piece here and there, but I never thought about selling regularly.
That’s so awesome your husband sounds so supportive!❤️ you should totally try selling more! It’s a a lot of fun:)
I’m going back through some of your videos. It’s a new year and things have changed, my skills have gotten better, and I’m thinking maybe it’s time for me to start paying myself a bit more. But of course that old familiar anxiety pops up and then I saw this video after the video you posted today (buying yarn hacks) and it was so on time. Thank you for making videos like this. Because to be able to go back and listen to them again (as I crochet chair sleeves for my grandmother’s kitchen table 😂) is instilling some confidence and feels like I’ve got somebody in my corner. ❤❤
❤️❤️ I am absolutely in your corner :)
Ooo a 30 minute video!! I love longer videos! Gives me time to get my coffee and breakfast made!❤ ooo your coach has a GREAT point! That hit me! 😅
I'm so glad you loved the longer video! I always love watching longer videos when I'm getting ready in the morning too! :) And right!? My coach is incredible!❤
Thank you for the confidence boost to sell my makes for what they are worth. Love your content, thank you!
❤️❤️ :)
Every day I wonder why I am working so hard to a project that will probably fail I watch or rewatch one of your videos and find my reasons to keep going!❤😊
❤️❤️ I’m honored that I’m someone that helps you keep going!!
I've dreamed about starting a little crochet business for years but never felt that i was good enough. My skills have really improved over the past year and I've upped my game as far as materials go in that i think a better quality yarn equals a prettier finished product so i'm starting to feel a tiny bit more confident. Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us about this important topic. Almost every one of my friends does some sort of craft and you really hit the nail on the head about "i can make that cheaper". The question is, will you? Prime example, my girlfriend wanted a corset for our local Renaissance festival and she spent hundreds of dollars on materials and months and months of trying and ultimately she threw up her hands and bought one. Sure, she made one but it didn't look as well made and caused her a tremendous amount of money and stress. She went from, "I am not paying $300 for a corset" to "man, that was the best $300 I ever spent" 😂
I love that story! It totally proves that just because you can make it, doesn’t mean you can necessarily do it cheaper or as high of quality!😂 I’ve done this before too though! Seen something and thought to myself, “I could make this cheaper 🤔 “ only to waste tons of time and money trying to make it look decent😂 it’s so true!
Thanks so much for this.
I have little to no confidence in myself when it comes to this (or anything really LOL) but I have SO much for other people.
This made me feel so much better,
you're the best.
Don't give up anyone - it will come with time :)
I totally relate to this! It’s hard to find our own confidence but it’s so important!❤️ you’ve got this!
I’ve been trying to over come the pricing panic. I’ve been making jewelry for years and years. So it was a nice change to jump into crochet. Less material and tools. It was hard to judge prices though. You’re right, It’s so reassuring when the right customer comes along and really values hand made crafts. When I first launched my crochet items, I was surprised another crochet artist bought from me. Her booth had so much of everything. We talked and she has been running her own website business for almost 10 years. I just happen to have a frog pattern she didn’t have and she loved it.
That is such a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing with me a bit about yourself :) I can totally imagine the pricing practices being way different between jewelry and crochet! Never hesitate to email me with specific questions you might have! :)
I had a fellow crochet vendor comment negatively on a doll that I made. I actually underpriced it for the amount of work and the yarn I put into it. “$40 , really?” And then the eye roll. The comment hurt my feelings. What is wrong with these people? Didn’t their mom teach them, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, keep your trap shut!”
Totally!!! I never understand this too! If you don’t have anything nice to say just don’t say it, right!?
Easier said than done but I wouldn’t worry about it! It happens but they’re not your ideal customer!
I love all of your videos, but especially this one!! You make some really important points and it got me thinking about other ways to look at pricing/value as well. Like we are probably underpricing (in our heads) things at big box stores like Target. Prices are not as low as they used to be! I literally just launched my crochet business yesterday so imposter syndrome is real over here. I'm so grateful for content like yours and the positivity I've seen within the craft/crochet community!
Awww this makes me SO happy! Thanks for commenting this!❤️ I feel like a lot of us feel this way! Excited for you on your new crochet business journey 😍❤️ we’ve got this!
I want to watch all of your videos. I learn so much 😊 thank you
Thank you so much for hanging out with me :)
Love the longer video Camryn! I ate a ginormous lunch and watched haha. The Tale of Two Grandmas was key!!
Isn’t it interesting how customers will be all over the place with their comments on our pricing. It adds to my confusion. 😢
I’m confident in every aspect of my crochet business Except pricing!! Thank You so much for helping us makers out. I want to attend the webinar and so excited for the pricing calculator!!
So excited for you to be at the webinar Rebecca!😍❤️
Oh I loved all of this!! I cannot wait for the digital calculator and the webinar!! I am literally just starting to sign up for my first craft shows. Thank you so much for you insight, knowledge and POSITIVITY!!
Congrats on starting shows!! You will love it so much ❤
I’m so excited for you to try craft shows!!!😍 thanks for this comment, so glad you loved the video!❤️
Absolutely loved your video! I’m just setting up a crochet business and so much of what you say resonates with me. Love your message, energy and enthusiasm and your love for your work just shines through - inspiring ❤
Awww this makes me so happy! Glad it was helpful!💖🫶🏼
Fantastic job Camryn. We are all unique and we should all have proper signs to display this. For example…I knit/crochet with mostly Malabrigo Yarn which is a high priced luxury yarn. I should display that more which in the end will educate my customers on why the price is higher then some.
Great tips and can’t wait to watch more 🥰
Your work sounds beautiful! It’s great to educate customers on why the price is higher!❤️ sometimes the people upset just don’t understand, so I love that you’re doing this!
I really needed to hear all of this! Great video Camryn!! 😊❤️
Awww yay! I’m so glad!❤️
I love your videos.......and you give great tips......thanks so much for sharing! Have a great weekend
WE GOT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heck yes WE GOT THIS!!!😍❤️❤️
Always love your videos! Without your guidance I would have been clueless at my first market. You’ve given me so much insight and tools. Thank you 🙏🏻 keep making these awesome videos. You rock!
This makes me so happy! So glad they’ve been helpful so far, lots more coming soon!❤️
Thank you for the tips. One of the problem I had when I sold some crochet items, it was that my prices was very low (less than 10 $ or items would not sell fast. I could sell if items costs 8$. if some cost more , it slow down immediately. My most big problem is that even if Im not a beginner crochet, to make an item, any even the most simple, it still require me at least 3 days. I mean even a simple amigurumi bear like a bear -purse, it takes long time : make 2 circles of 10 cm x 10 cm, 2 tiny circle (to make ears), make the muzzle, embroidery the tiny nose and mouth, sewing all the pieces together, included the zipper , and asseble it, it requires surely more than 1 day for me. As Im an "housewife" and theres a lot of things to do too during the day. When I say even for simple things it requires more than 1 day is because of this. I cant work on pieces for hours without interruptions. So if a lot of time is required , more than 1 day, then the price of 8 or even 10 dollars would not pay the time. So what is the suggestions to work as assembly line and tips to be more fast to crocheting?
Love that little chicken amigarumi! And of course the inspiration.
Awww thanks so much!:)
Someone asking what you do sounds like a moment to hand them a business card.
That is a great opportunity to give a business card! However, it is important to assess the situation to see if it's appropriate, or perhaps it's better to explain and then if they are curious, then present a business card!
You give great advice. Thanks for sharing your tips. 🎉
I'm glad you found it helpful! :)
Thank you for all your time you give us 🥰 You are amazing and so inspiring ❤
Oh my gosh, YOU all are what inspire me! Thank you so much for the support! ❤️😊
This video made me feel a little more good abt the prices i wanna do even tho my mom doubts that I'll accualy be able to sell I'm15 and just decided to do this as a summer job selling crochet decor
You've got this! :)
about the customer that complained about your $10 dollar pumpkin. i would have made the mistake of saying something right then and there forgetting that there's an actual child listening to me tell off her grandma. its probably a good thing you didn't say anything then and there. lol!
Perception is a major component in success at craft shows! Not only do your items have to be something they want to purchase, but you have to be someone they want to buy from! (Or at least not have an issue with buying from!)
I would probably buy it. I might have to save money for it, but I would buy it.
Totally!:)
Camryn, thank you for sharing yourself with us empowering me to move ahead, QUESTION?? What should we put on the BUSINESS CARD???
It’s amazing what sells and what doesn’t. Coasters sell well for me so do potholders. I charge a lot for them too because I make them out of wool and I felt them. I hope you make courses.
Amazing advise thanks 🙏
❤️ I'm glad you found it helpful! :)
Great video! Can you share your pricing as well as the yarn that you used in individual items. Pricing and what yarn to use is really a struggle for me.
Totally! You can check out my latest video! I go over my favorite yarns to use in my business :)
Not me watching this video while crocheting (probably shoddily lol) for fun with my dollar store yarn 😂😂
Hahah:) hey the dollar store has some great options!
Great video. Thank you
Of course! I'm so glad you enjoyed!:)
I love love love watching your videos, always super inspiring!!!! I was wondering if you could make a video about how to find crochet markets and markets to sell at by you! love you and your videos!
Thank you so much! I do have a video talking about finding your first show and determining if it's right for you here: ruclips.net/video/RzgHPxZkeAA/видео.html
I hope this video can help answer some of your questions! ❤️😊
I usually take price of yarn double for price to charge. Unless it was very hard to do I’ll charge more.
That's a good system! I'm glad you've found a formula that works for you and that you're comfortable with ❤️
As a crocheter myself I was at a craft fair and loved the evil goat stuffed animals a lady was selling but the price was too much for me to afford (totally worth every cent she was charging) but had she sold the pattern how to make them I SO would have bought that pattern
That's a very valuable thought and consideration people should have! Having the pattern available for sale would certainly allow a lesser-cost version of an item for people who want to make it themselves! However, some sellers may not want to release their patterns, which is absolutely within their rights!
I'm starting to go to market and I make diaper Cakes which range from$5-50 depending on what kind of cake you want but I also add more things to orders but my items are never over $200 for 1 person. And I don't use the most expensive items to make them but my nerves to go to these vender events really scares me. I've been to a fle market and people there are so mean. So I'm hoping to do good at vender markets
Flea markets are hard because people are looking for sales and discounted prices! I think a craft show would surprise you!:) These diaper cakes sounds adorable! :)
Yea my frist ever one is th15 and I can't wait to go
Where do you buy your crochet needles? I have so much trouble crocheting with velvet, so I thought I should try different hooks.
I actually get my hooks from Furls! Here's an affiliate link* to their store: shrsl.com/3ubm4
*As an affiliate, I do get a certain percentage of sales made using that link.
What do you do about people who want to pay by credit card? I haven't started selling but I want to. So much to learn.
My card reader does accept credit cards! I use Square :)
Hi I am loving your videos, I have been binge watching them lately. I have my own business but mine is a sewing business so I was wondering if your seminar is just about crochet or is it more for handmade business?
So glad you’ve been loving the videos! :) The webinar is for all handmade business owners, although a lot of my examples will be crochet! :)
@@camryns_cute_creations thank you ❤ for replying to my comment
I've been following on Instagram and just found your RUclips, i just wanna say THANK YOU For trying to help people build a business and in the process making it like we're just hanging with a friend!! Youre the bomb!!💣
You’re the sweetest! Thanks so much for saying this!🥰 so glad it’s been helpful!!!
Will you make a tutorial for your hats?
My velvet beanie pattern is actually for sale on my website here!: camrynscutecreations.com/product/velvet-beanie-crochet-pattern-5-sizes/
I crochet and i cant make clothes, but my sister can but she cant do amigurumi 😂
😂😂 I'm so glad you two seem to balance each other in that way!! ❤️
Do you stick on one color scheme with what you sell? I noticed that your items were in mainly the same colors. I am all over the place. I am getting ready to do more with my knitting machine.
I'm terrible at markets that are super slow toward the end. I get desperate and end up marking down my items just to make a sound.😢
Hey there! I'd love to talk more at length about strategies we can implement via email, if you'd like!
Do you put Velvet through the Addi machine. I have been contemplating purchasing one.
I do not use velvet on the Addi, it tends to worm and get messed up!
What are your thoughts about the market be over saturated with crochet? It seems everyone is selling crochet mainly angurami.
I really eant to start selling crochet but im having alot of trouble coming up with a unique item.
I totally understand that sentiment! Honestly, I think it’s awesome that so many more people are interested in crochet, both making and buying!! I haven’t experienced too much of the over-saturation in terms of markets, although I have noticed more overall!
I would suggest you focus on making what you want to make in terms of items, and instead try to recognize what makes your brand unique! For example, are you using recycled yarn? Are you targeting a certain audience that your brand is geared toward? Things like that!
i dont have money for fancy brands either.. Joann's taking all my money $$$
LOL totally relate to this😂❤️❤️
To me, I feel inclined to charge less at my 1st street faire
That’s totally okay! Sometimes you just need to get started! You can always raise your prices overtime :)
oh my gosh where did you get your crewneck???
You are so beautiful and smart!!!! I appreciate you and your channel 🧶🫶😊
Thank you so much for the kind words! :) ❤️
Comment break: Your coach's link in the description isn't working. Back to the video!
Shoot! I should have it fixed now :)
So beautiful lady ani plz share your crochet beanie wool discribtion box ❤loved
My crocheted beanies use Bernat Velvet yarn!! :) ❤️
I would like to make the chicken. Can you point me in the direction of the pattern please?
I am paying 5.99 to another channel. I would definitely pay monthly for tutorials. There are over 800 thousand of people.
Awesome! Thank you!!!
@@camryns_cute_creations your videos are extremely knowledgeable and inspiring! I'm at a standstill. On another baby Afghan. My son and his wife love the Afghan for Baby boy coming and my daughter's shower is soon. She is going to be so excited about the detailed, dainty baby girl Afghan. Now onto another baby boy Afghan! Did some bees and chickens this weekend, in between to relax when I was on my daughter's. That one was crazy. Took 2,289 yards! So love to give a handmade gift since I can. You know!❤ love your recent to me the hat using Bernat Velvet. Can't wait to do that next after this Afghan. You're Awesome!!
I make homemade dog biscuits. Simple ingredients and you can pronounce what's in them. When I started I wanted to make biscuits affordable.. it's hard because they are pumpkin bacon. Bacon is expensive! Everyone is telling me me I could charge more. I want to think of a way I could show people that what I make is better for there dogs. It's a bag of 15 and I sell for $8. Any feedback from anyone
I definitely don't think you should undersell yourself! I would suggest leaning into those aspects that make your dog biscuits stand out, such as them being simple, natural, delicious, and healthy. I would compare them to some of the bigger brand biscuits people may use, as well. People really care about their pets, so really lean into how much these treats benefit them and are good for them!
@@camryns_cute_creations thank you for your feedback ☺️
I buy stuff like that for my dog and would happily pay $15-20 for a bag of 15 of them and would still consider buying them at $25-30. You are selling yourself short big time.
You all are so kind. Thank you
Love those booties.
They are soooo cute, right?? The pattern is from Croby Patterns! Here's their link for the pattern!: crobypatterns.com/crochet-baby-booties-in-15-minutes-or-less/
The problem with selling your work for min wage is that your work is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. No matter if it's worth it to you, if you try to sell your stuff for min wage that would make things ridiculously over priced. It takes me a day to make a baby blanket, but if I tried to sell a baby blanket for $180+ then no one would buy it. They would not even look at my work. They would walk right by my stand. 3x the amount of your materials is the most fair price. And that puts my baby blankets at $60 each. That is a much more manageable price and something people are willing to spend money on. Which is why in your one video when you said your goal is to make $5000 worth of inventory in one month it baffled me because I can't even make that much inventory without a life aside from crocheting, how do you do it with a life outside of crocheting. I mean it takes me 15 hours to make a baby blanket plus and that if i dont stop for meals. and I've been crocheting for 32 years, so that's actually not slow. But that means I can make an average of $60 worth of inventory per day. Because I have to sleep and eat sometime. But as fast as I am with crocheting and as little sleep I get the most I could possibly make is 31 baby blankets per month. That's still only $1,860 worth of inventory. And that is pushing it. That is working till I haelte it. Pushing through the headaches crocheting gives me and the pain in my hands from constant crocheting.
I totally understand your perspective, and in many ways agree! Your right that a blanket that takes such a long time to create would result in far higher price! That is why I tend away from those items, and stick to items that takes on average under 2 hours to make. This results in final prices that are much more reasonable to the average shopper, while being far more fair to my time. By sticking to these types of items that don't have a large time investment, I am able to build up an inventory that will result in far greater profits simply because the time investment is not disproportionate to the price.
There are also other strategies to selling at fair prices to your work, such as marketing toward your ideal client. For me, most of my items are aimed toward young mothers, selling baby items and such. Because they are marketed at a certain type of person, that type of person has a greater perceived value of the item and is more accepting of prices that someone else (who I am not marketing towards) might consider too high. This could be flipped, too. If I were to market toward a certain football team's fans, then they would perceive the value of my products as higher than a fan of another team.
If you'd ever like to, I'd love to talk more personally and in-depth via email about pricing strategies! It sounds like you have a system that works for you and feels fair to you, which is awesome!
Why don't you show some of your items and tell the price you sell them for?
Hey there! If you send me an email, I'd be happy to discuss with you the specific pricing of specific items! 😁
