Actually, I like I the Mask better than Battles, but This is our House is such a stupid song that I had to punish the whole album. I don't know if In flames will ever be good again, Sense and Sounds were steps in the right direction...

Every Album after jesper left the Band (or got kickt). There are a few good Songs...
    Lunar strain
    Soundtrack to your escape
    Whoracle
    Jester Race
    Colony
    Come Clarity
    A Sense of Purpose
    Clayman
    Reroute to Remain
They still make good music and have managed to be relevant for such a long time but since jesper left the Band they werent able to create those mind blowing melody lines which were there trademark. For me pereonally the "classic" in flames Sound was created by jesper for the most Part and got lost by the time he left.
But if there is a in flames Show nearby i will always go there to see what they are doing today for the fact that they were my childhood heroes together with Dark Tranquillity.

i first heard in flames in 98 and it was colony and obsessed immediately so much. then i listened whoracle, jester race and lunar strain subterranean (in one word EPIC). when clayman came i run to get it and some hours later i hold the broom as guitar and i was jumping around. i saw them live and i was stunned! perfection! and after 2 years i was waiting for the next album so anxious, and it was reroute remain! i was stunned! this was an apocalypse! they changed totally the sound and goosebumps till this day i listen the album, they conviced me that they were the biggest band ever! and then came soundtrack to your escape! is still the album that i have heard more than 1.000 times but never clicked me. boring to death even though i was trying desperately to find sth to be obsessed, after reroute to remain (top 3 for me) was the first weak album of in flames. never hated in flames, always obsessed with them but in my aspect the downfall has no end the last 20 years with the exception of sense of purpose and come clarity that was good albums for a band (not in flames). when you give albums like jester race, whoracle, colony, reroute to remain and you are almost the next big thing in music and then it comes soundtrack to your escape.epic failure, blue screen in windows mode. i have bought every album, siren charms and battles were disappointing but the fiasko with soundtrack was epic, never see it coming.

Only heard a handful of In Flames's albums so far, actually. Got into a lot of melodeath back a few years ago but I never really started exploring IF until last year. Even then I still haven't heard much in terms of full albums, but I like most of what I've heard of them so far for those and other songs here and there. My favorite so far is Lunar Strain, followed by Jester Race, and at the bottom (by a very large margin) is I the Mask.

Good list overall, I agree about A Sense of Purpose, it's a fun album. I have no use for their subsequent albums though, they went too far IMO.
    1) Whoracle - love this absolutely.
    2) Jester Race - could've been first
    3) Colony - a melodeath staple
    4) Lunar Strain - raw and epic, resembles early Dark Tranquillity in its tone.
    5) Clayman - excellent, although you get tiny hints of the later decline.
    6) Reroute to Remain - pretty enjoyable, but the decline has begun
    7) A Sense of Purpose - well-written and solid, lots of fun tracks
    8) Sort of a comeback, but still sounds a bit too metalcore-y to be a classic. Decent but indeed overrated.
    9) Soundtrack to your Escape - a few good songs, but the decline was heavily apparent here.
    10) Foregone - their newest album is somewhat listenable, like a 6/10 if I'm feeling generous.
11-14) Everything else is worthless to me. I tried listening to some I The Mask just now and it's garbage. Anders' vocals are intolerably bad. The Re-recording of half of Clayman is an utter abomination and a crime against music. The much, much worse 2020 iteration of the band compared to their 2000 lineup makes this sound like fucking shit.

And then come around 92 lot of my favorite favorite bands started going to shit. I stopped listening to metal for a while. Then I borrowed my buddy's Clayman CD and was hooked again. I have very eclectic taste in music. But I have to credit In Flames for being me back in to metal.

1 is set in stone. 2-6 could alternate on a given day as could 7 and 8. 9 I love still very underrated. Rest are hit or miss. Agree the newest one is a step in the right direction I just wish they would drop Howard Benson as producer because it’s calling the bands sound. The Clayman remake is whatever. I consider it more like an alternate live version rather than a proper re-recording. From what I gather that’s what they were going for.

Sure the new albums, maybe since „a sense of purpose“ are way different then the more melodic death metal like albums from the beginning, but I don‘t give a fuck! I like many different styles and genres of metal and they always provide solid and well played metal. Siren Charms is also a great album
