Just the best, any way you hear it! There will never be another like Nat.
Nat King Coles voice was like satin smooth.
Love this song. Beautiful.
absolutamente de las mejores canciones que he escuchado..
one good chillout tune
I want a time machine to go back and slow dance to this whilst looking into someone's eyes
My dad's favorite song. Today he became stardust.
you are a poet
We really don't realize how trashy the singers of today's and their crab are till we hear Nat and his songs.
So true! So true!
How right you are. How in the hell did we go from the great singers, dancers, Big Bands, etc., from the 40's and 50's to the crap they try to call music today.
Not if identified only as trashy and not "singers".
Love this song and when Nat King Cole sings it it only adds to its beauty I heard someone say that if you had to compare his voice to something it would velvet, never get tired of listening to his music.
Velvet tone for sure.
Perhaps the most beautiful song ever made in history ! ! !
YES! ...and the most beautiful arrangement and performance.
This is not just a beautiful song but also has a most beautiful man to sing it, used to listen to it in the 1970's, 80's, 90's etc sure you get the point.
lol
great songs and voice
My father had the albums of people like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra. Johnny Mathis and I love them so much. He has been gone for 10 years and all I have to do to feel close is play these beautiful songs that I grew up with.
Well said!
A man with an angelic voice, amost unique diction that separates him from everyone, pure romantic lyrics, clean and sweet.
Absolutely beautiful. Stay classy.
It can't be possible that a human being sounds like this! Cole had such a celestial voice! OMG....
Only Heavenly possible; and Karen Carpenter?
I like songs of this Nat King Cole.
When Nat King Cole sings everything is alright with the world...
Thank you mr. COLE.......
fyi "Nat King Cole IS an Alabama soul, that's why you couldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole" (From "Ten Foot Pole" written by Eddie Hinton and Donnie Fritts)
You did a bang up job on this video! I love the Hubbell telescope images, so appropriate for a song named 'Stardust'. Also, the pics of Hoagy were so outstanding. I really enjoy this video. Thank you!! Liz
WOW, a pairing of Nat King Cole's velvet voice, enchanting lyrics, and Hoagy Carmichael's haunting melody with Hubble star images. Too beautiful! Bravo!!
Music and photos are absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Thank you. Sooo glad the classics are making a come-back.
This was one of the earliest songs I listened to when I learned of RUclips. This was literally the selfsame video. Thank you.
heavenly !
Απίστευτα όμορφο και λατρεμένο τραγούδι, από τον υπέροχο και αλησμόνητο Nat King Cool, φυσικά l!!
Incredibly beautiful and beloved song from the wonderful and unforgettable Nat King Cool, natural l!!
:)

Almost every singer and musician has done her or his version of this most-beautiful Carmichael tune, and I have listened carefully to as many as I could dig up. Without the slightest doubt this one...The King and Gordon Jenkin's string section... is the most sublime of all. The honey with which Mr Cole's inimitable voice renders this difficult piece, riding the heavenly swells of Jenkins' strings is almost too sweet to bear.
What a classic song and sung beautifully. I once heard several decades ago that Hoagy Carmichael wrote this in 20 minutes but have not confirmed it. Absolutely romantic.
The most beautiful music ever!
Soooooooo very beautiful............the song and the voice bring back memories of long ago !
And so we travel this misty road of memories, and we let the words, the melody and “The King” transport us “back.” We’re there, even if just for a moment, but the vision of what was is clear and it is ours... once more!
Lyrics so well written, the sad story of lost love so eloquently sung by one of the all time greats. Wow, it takes me back. I, too, played this on my trumpet as a very young teen.
But you can't sing when playing a horn! So I took up guitar. Stardust was always a favorite. Thank you for uploading this great song, and the videos are incredible. Those views are no accident, any more than this beautiful song is an accident.
..
omg what a song, what a voice!!! Bless you Mr. King Cole, wherever your soul might be!
Para abstrair, esta música e esta voz são ideais
The music of today cannot compare to Stardust and the satin smooth voice of Nat King Cole...
What a beautiful voice and with that song memories lingers indeed!
I just stumbled upon this in my usual fashion wandering around youtube. This is a gem. We are so very small. Not unimportant, just so small. Time stretches infinitely and the echoes of souls that came before us reverberate throughout eternity. A lovely way to slow down, take a breath and to remember what is really important in the long run. Thank you.
Perfect melody, perfect lyrics, perfect phrasing and tone, perfect arrangement.
What more need be said? Granted that people have different tastes, especially in music. Still, how can any listener with taste or common sense not think this is one of very best recordings in the history of popular music?
Someone I loved passed away many years ago. "He wandered down the lane, and faraway, leaving me a song that will not die" Your tribute to the King with beautiful visuals, soared through stardust and then landed gently on my heart! `
Nicely done, indeed! So much credit is given to Hoagy Carmichael for his melody, but we must equally salute Michael Parrish for the incomparable lyrics to this masterpiece. Your video does justice!
The ultimate ballad song, often described as The Standard, and the ultimate singer of ballads and we have my favorite.
yes!
This song can somehow make me happy, sad, nostalgic, romantic and invigorated all at the same time. Hoagie Carmichael gets my undying props.
You did a wonderful job on this. Such a beautiful song. My father worked on the Space Telescope. Can't wait for him to see this.
I love it, my favorite rendition of a wonderful song written by a fellow hoosier, and some great pictures to go with it.
Nothing beats the old time poetic musical form....
Music will never be like this again ever. I lived in a good time.
A magic song, a magic voice, simply wonderful!!! Thanks a lot. It makes me dream.
Maravilloso tema, muy bello, su intérprete, inolvidable.
I MISS THIS MAN AND HIS TALENT
THE best version--Nat's wistful voice matches the magical arrangement of this enchanting, mysterious song--one is transported--lovely photo montage--thank you!!
I listen to this every night. It is so calming. Thanks for posting.
I will never understand how someone so long ago could leave us all something so beautiful.......
This song gives me goosebumps!
The greatest version I have ever heard.
Thank you rnrchef for this incredible video! "Stardust" has been my favorite song since I was 19 (now 67) and Nat King Cole was my mother's favorite singer. I loved him too. The only other singer that could do this beautiful melody justice - my opinion only - is Johnny Mathis. But, when this plays in my head, it's this rendition I hear. Thank you again.
1 of the top 5 best record ever made
thank u for this lovely nostalgic moments, and memories. that give good feelings
This is real singing and what incredible control and phrasing this man had, each word said with a purpose to the end and to the feel of the song. An elegance in singing somehow lost through the years, how great that we have it recorded for generations to come. Thank you for posting this.
As I'm working on learning Final Cut Express (on Mac) tonight - no more Sony Vegas folks - I'm blown away by the quotes from you all; many, to my ears, just as poetic & artful as any of the lyrics in this song. Most artists (including myself) rarely get positive response for our work, especially inspired/inspiring, uplifting comments. THANK YOU ALL & KEEP 'EM COMING!
What a touching combination!... A wonderful, haunting melody created by Hoagy Carmichael, introduced by a Heavenly orchestration, and interpreted by the gentle and tender voice of Nat King Cole... It really stirs one's soul...mariza
Muito linda esta música
I loved this and the version he sang on TV. His version is the best rendition of Stardust ever.
Stardust, written by Hoagy Carmichael, great singer, song writer and actor. Sung so beautifully by Nat King Cole.
II would have liked to have asked Hoagy Carmichael If he had an expectation that words would be added to his melody.. Apparently it wasn't until two years later that the words were added. In any case Mitchell Parrish did a brilliant job writing the lyrics
Voz aveludada, inigualável e melodia imortal. Basta lembrar que esta composição é de 1908.
There will never be another Nat King Cole...nobody can imitate his voice...beautiful
top 5 for me.
Thank you for this beautiful song. It's on of those songs that will remain in our hearts forever.
This song was written by the genius Hoagy Carmichael, but made to live forever by Nat King Cole. There is no other version!
Nat takes this lovely standard and turns it into pure gold. No other singer has ever sang Stardust with such meaning and beauty..... The heartbreak and longing of lost love.
I like the song, and I like the idea of mixing more jazz artists with space footage because they are the true aliens!!!
una delle più belle canzoni in assoluto.Grazie Lilly Felice fine settimana
And one more: Since I've been doing more & more full 1080 HD video for restaurants, bands, chefs, etc., this "Stardust" video I did years ago looks mighty fuzzy & outdated indeed. That said, I do think it confirms something a great deal of "big-time" directors and producers seem to forget, even with their multi-million dollar budgets: Quality content, even with so-so production is still solid/watchable; conversely, great production without solid content never holds up.
Disclosure (Part 1 of 2): I am in both the food & music industries (chef & musician/writer/producer), and have worked with many talented artists in both fields (details coming in Part 2). While everyone has an opinion, my income depends upon "guessing right" about what is good/marketable, or not. In my experience, that's the major difference between being a "civilian" vs. being a professional: civilians aren't accountable financially or career-wise with their opinions - professionals are.
@speechrighter It's all good, I just have so many other projects, websites, youtube channels, Facebook pages, etc. to juggle... I don't always find time to approve (and yes, sometimes delete/block) the many many comments this particular video generates. But I guess getting a strong reaction is the ultimate goal for any artist, right?
"...while learning to edit"? Friend, I think you had mastered the art, by the time you did this! Congrats!
Simply brilliant!
Incredible that kookie Hoagy wrote one of THE romantic songs ever written and how grateful I am to him. And.... Nat King Cole's is to me THE Definitive version .... The arrangement and his rendering... No one has or can top it. He takes one into outer space indeed.
Can't seem to upload Part 2 of this comment?!?!? Strange. But I'll try again later to add links to my videos featuring Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), Steven Adler (Guns N Roses), Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons), Chip Znuff (Enuff Znuff) and Rich Perez (Creedence Again, Lonesome Halos).
This blows any other song right out the window. So beautiful, and rufino07 is right, it does make your soul shiver. Naomi
@Embosan Thanks for that info for everyone here. You gotta love the cajones shown by William Wyler to cast that vet in his movie; it would be hard to imagine any major films or their directors doing something like that today? That film is really something...
@torrents4u2c Speaking as a TV addict, video junkie etc., I disagree: I think there's some FANTASTIC content on TV, but you have to be very discerning: Right now, I love "Breaking Bad" & "Pawn Stars"; I also dig "Weeds" and "Dexter." Ya know?
@abmrl14 "They" would be me, and yes - that was exactly the approach with this piece. Without the songwriter, nobody else has the chance to showcase their respective musical skills, regardless of how considerable they may be...
@daddyoj you know what's funny? I have quite a lot of videos online featuring famous rock stars and any other kind of stuff - and you know what? In terms all the views this video gets... it's the BEST video I've ever done (and also my first). Wacky huh
Does RUclips prohibit adding URLs in these comments or something? I hope that's not true, but that might well be the problem I'm having? So let's try this (all of these are dot coms): RockNRollKitchen; CreedenceAgain ; RUclips slash LonesomeHalos. Cheers!
@contrerados In fairness... It's probably fair to say that someone sees every new generation as "teenage misfits." In my view, the test of time is the only one that matters: great art & music always hold up, but it's too soon to judge new art or artists.
@neonorchid58 I don't think the classics ever went away; maybe they got (briefly) out-marketed by "flavors of the month" music, but the ones that stand the test of time are the ones that always hold up for every generation
Well portrayed. Exactly what I think of this day and age given the science channel, the universe, the cosmos, etc. How prophetic. Don't you think? I rediscovered this song about a year and a half ago. I just sat there mystified wondering how I missed it for so long. That day I listened to it over and over again it think for fourteen times. What a beautiful song. Questions prevail for me. Did she leave him? Or, did she die? Or, is that left to our imagination?
IN THE EARLY 1970s, my parents and another couple enjoyed a dinner at the Sheraton Hotel, in French Lick, Ind. After the meal, while walking near a stairwell, they heard someone "beating" on a piano in the basement. Pianist was playing "The Nearness of You." The couples, now curious, decided to go down and have a look. It was Hoagy. For the next two hours, the five of them talked, yakked, sang... and listened to Hoagy play his Greatest Hits -- a Very Private, VERY Cherished, Concert.
My lover, my friend, passed away 25 yrs, ago on this past Valentine's Day which is also between our birthdays. I'm the 13th of Feb. and he the 15th. Yes, 2 little happy Aquarians! I was not with him at his apt. at his time of death. He started an argument with me and I left. This was no ordinary death. He had cancer and decided it was time for him to leave. But at the time of his death I saw him one last time. "He wandered down the lane and faraway, leaving me a song that will not die!"
This arrangement and the performance of Nat King Cole are unmatched today. And I doubt they ever will be. When I watch the images you have put together with this beautiful song it make me think of one great lady. Bette Davis. This was her favorite song. In life she searched for what the song is about and never found it. Everyone was after what they could take from her. Especially her selfish mother. Now I hope she is resting in peace and enjoying her music. And slow dancing with someone special.
True. If not historys greatest lyricist, Mitchell Parrish taxes the talents of songwriting's pantheon of musical poets to supersede him. As a nostalgic musing of lost love Stardust is eloquent, elegant, elegiac & near-ethereal; pure poetry - & in Nat Cole they find their most graceful expression, his voice the original black velvet; smooth, seamless, as serene as a late summer sunset. The epitome of stylish grace, Nat personified casual, cool, nonchalant charm, making each song a poetic prayer.
Hoagy Charmichael (from Bloomington Indiana)wrote Star Dust in 1927 at "The Gables" across from the Indiana University School of Law (JD '27). It was recorded and became and instamental hit. In 1929, with lyrics by Mitchell Parish, and it was an even bigger hit. At the time it was the most recorded song ever. By the time Nat Cole recorded it Hoagy was one of the most famouse song writers of all time, and a movie and TV star as well.
Thank you for posting this!! This is my favorite version of the most popular song of all time... recorded over a thousand times in 30+ languages, which is hard to believe in this day and age since hardly any famous artists do covers compared to back then.
This was even the favorite version of Mitchell Parrish, the lyricist. And I love Hoagy, so those photos were great to see, too. Awesome!
Howard Hoagland "Hoagy" Carmichael (November 22, 1899 - December 27, 1981) was an American composer, pianist, singer, actor, and bandleader. He is best known for composing the music for "Stardust", "Georgia on My Mind", "The Nearness of You", and "Heart and Soul", four of the most-recorded American songs of all time.
I love this version of Stardust best. I also like the video very much. It's poignant to see ghostly images of people long dead and gone ... mixed with the Hubble's images of nebulae. Although I don't know them, I feel their presence in this song and in these images. I will definitely watch it again and again. Thanks for posting.
@pfcwar5150 Let's consider them as lucky guys who won' t need any kind of stardust to consolate their souls, because their innocent hearts ain't never been broken(yet).
But in the real world, losers always outnumber winners. So, more people tend to rely on some kind of stardust than those who don't.
Let's enjoy our 'STARDUST'
I wanted to say some complimentary words about Nat King Cole, who was special. Yet I also wanted to make a point about the racial bigotry in his day and I can't post it.
Even so, others on YT can use all the filthy language under the sun and it's acceptable seemingly. Why isn't it sanitized as well?
Of all the many, MANY recordings of this beloved standard, Nat King Cole's easily ranks as one of the most beautiful, 54 years after it was recorded. No less than Hoagy Carmichael, the song's composer, cited it as his personal favorite version. Nat's vocal and Gordon Jenkins' arrangement combine to create musical magic.
...when God conceived and angelically delivered this stardust melody upon our planet; allowed Hoagy Carmichal and orchestra to interpret its beauty; permitted its release it to the listening ears of mankind; we all became united in a spirit of eternal understanding that is unlimited as the very stars in His heaven...
I agree with avril2 - This song is one of a kind. It doesn't follow the usual pattern of lyric, chorus, bridge, and so on. It evolves and changes the way life does, while the underlying theme remains. I've also thought for a long time that it is arguably the greatest pop song of the 20th Century, on so many levels. A masterpiece with one of the masters singing it.
Quite a thrill to hear Nat's great voice accompanied by your beautiful visuals. I love this song, just made a vid with visuals about love, thought it would compliment your cosmic theme. I hope you let me post it here to share. Thanks.
certainly
